I was just thinking yesterday that we only ever hear from Mick Ablett on draft night, he never pops up during the year,........but there you go.
Pleased to hear this, he seems to have his finger on the pulse draft-wise re WA talent and clubs. Don't want Hollands at 8 though
I really like Hollands, more than fine with him at 8. He's an elite runner, and for someone who can run like a wingman has a really good contested game and skills. He'll make a fine AFL player.

Comments like this get me thinking that's it's nearly impressible for us to muff our picks up.
It does seen a WC style pick, although I personally want someone more explosive and a match winner.

The next Judd at 8 and Dusty at 12 would be be great...No pressure Mrs Macs and c/o :p

Pffft, if Hewett slides to 21 and we get him with our third pick, I'll eat my own chode.
Don’t think he will, I’d prefer to take him at 13.
But with the behaviour rumours and the potential go home factor there is a chance he might. If he did slide it’d make a good draft. If not and we took the Bus/Ginbey or Ginbey/Allan combos earlier I’d be less enthused.

If we think Hewitt might slide, surely we do 12 & 20 for Sydney’s 14 & 17?

This is of course assuming Sydney want to jump up for someone and we don’t have someone in mind already at 12.

If you paired him with Hewitt at 12, you'd get that explosive/match winner.

And Hollands at West Coast might be the catalyst to uniting the brothers.

I’ve been comfortable with him at 8 or 12. Not sure whether too many against him at 8 have actually seen him play or listened to him.

He would be pushing for a wing role with great endurance and would transition to the stoppages once strong enough. He is a balanced midfielder that allows that.

As an added option, it might pave the wave for a future salary dump from Suns!

A lot of late interest in Phillipou. Seems like he might be gone by pick 9

The Bont comparisons might go all the way to him rocketing up the draft order and being selected pick 4 (though it will end up being pick 5 I guess).

It will be fascinating to see who slides. I can see Tsatas out of the top 10. I sure hope we don't select him.
Why? Tsatas at 8, Hewett or Hollands at 12 and Hottons or Burgiel at 20 would be a very good haul and give us 3 very different mids. Add to that Culley, Chesser and Hough.

I did not want Tsatas at 2 but getting Tsatas and a top balanced mid for effectively pick 2 feels OK. Sure, not my favourite combination but still a good haul.

Besides if he does slide to 8, there might be clubs chasing hard. Saints, Blues, Dogs and Dees would all benefit from him in the team.

Saints and Blues might be up for a jump ahead and offer up a future second for a minor slide back and a Port's future third. I would be reluctant to slide back more than a couple of spots if it was Tsatas as the target.

Hollands is a great balanced mid with elite endurance. Would love him at the club tbh.

Whilst he wouldn't be my first choice (that would be Mackenzie) I would definitely prefer Hollands than Clark at pick 9.

I was thinking the same thing. If he is there we just have to take him (or trade back as you say - for a nice little sweetener)

It does get interesting if our choice is between MacKenzie, Tsatsas and Clark (would mean that Ginbey, Humphrey and Busslinger are all taken in the top 8). What do we want our pairing to look like? None of those 3 will get to our pick 12/13 I wouldn't think - would we prefer a Mackenzie or Clark matched with Allan, or Tsatsas matched with Hewett?

Personally I'd go the second option, but if there are serious go-home concerns around Tsatsas I suppose that does change it a little.

In that scenario, I would go with a paring of Mackenzie and Hewett. Clear cut for me. If Hewett gone, then Allan OK. Hell, Tsatas might continue slipping! I doubt it.

As soon as we did the trade of 2 to 8 and 12, I was happy. Looking at the evenness, I believe we need to give O'Brien a full platter of part pies for that one.

Now The Dodo bird at Drug Rat Land is getting on board, and like his trades they usually come a bit late. It got me thinking, who else might be up for a trade before our pick 8?

I can only think of 2 - Dons and Suns. I am sure there are loads of interested buyers but you need a seller and they are not obvious other than these 2.

Dons supposedly want Phillipou at 4 but thought they could slide back a touch and still get their man. Bad luck, the Hawks have flown Phillipou to Melbourne for another meeting. Unless The Dodo bird would take another player late in the top 10, they would be wanting too much for pick 4 so unlikely to happen.

Suns are an odd one with draft picks. Supposedly they wanted Hollands some 3 months ago. I hear the comments that he is not worth pick 5 but I am happy with him at pick 8 so in my values, not a huge reach. If they want him, they should go early at 5 as Blues and us have been linked to him. If the Suns just want best available, then they hold on to pick 5. Who they take is interesting. I would personally go Humphrey as they have a pretty stacked midfield and good talls being added next year. The concept of Ginbey is odd unless they want him as a back up to Rowell and Miller. We have no insights into which Suns are likely to stay in the next 2 years so Ginbey I would think would be fine in the Gold Coast.

A slider at 12 that Sydney are keen on? Would we sell?

That slide could be many - eg Busslinger, Hayes, Jefferson, etc

If Allan, Hewett and Hollands still there, I'd explore it.

Sydney offer up 14 and 17 for 12 and 26! I stress that it would need all three being there at 12 meaning one would slide to 14 and then we go Hottons at 17.

I have a feeling Melbourne take Jefferson if still there at 13. Jefferson looks like such a Melbourne pick.

Possible draft
8 - Mackenzie
14 - Hewett/Allan/Hollands
17 - Hotton (or possibly one of Hewett/Allan/Hollands still there)
20 - Clarke or Konstanty

That would be tempting. Again, no deal now but a live draft scenario. It is only a slide back of 2 (from 12) and it brings us forward 9 (from 26). Not doing it for 20 instead of 26.
