Finally - I'll see you all in 48 hours when you're in the "nailed it" phase of the Stockholm Syndrome that is supporting a footy team.
Then in 12 months we can discuss who showed they can do it at AFL level and who is struggling in the state league.
We will never know who we would have drafted with #2 but the speculative discussion by some will last a decade +.

Best case
Poo
Hewett
Jefferson
Burgiel

Likely
Ginbey
Allan
Jones
Burgiel

Worst case
Allen
Buss
Cowan
Jones

Although I’ve got Allan on my worst case list, it’s only if we draft him with our first pick. I spent a bit of time watching his highlights last night (what I could find) since it looks likely we’re going to draft him.
I must admit he does look like he has got a bit of x-factor about him. Can do a bit of everything with some flair. Not sure how that translates to afl or in what position though. At least I feel a bit better about drafting him.

Currently in the air flying down from Sydney to Melbourne for work. Will make sure look out the window of our office on occasion today and report any sightings of eagles recruiters talking to potential draft picks that may be happening on the south bank.

*note that I wouldn’t know what our recruiters (other than the pie man) or the draft picks look like (all teenagers look alike to me) so may be an issue.
I’ve got to say that’s commitment I haven’t seen in here from anyone else to fly in for the draft to watch live.
Will you make it for the draft day ticket tape parade down the river?
Might be able to report back to us on how relaxed nervous they look, have any of them been on the gym look fit?

Just listening to Mick Ablett talk about the draft on SEN WA

Really rates Hewett as a top 10 talent who will be a steal for whoever drafts him

Asked to nominate a player(s) that might be capable of 300 games he nominated Mackenzie and Clark talking both of them up in a big way

We will almost certainly be able to get Hewett with our second pick and there’s a strong possibility that one of Mackenzie or Clark are there at our first

To not walk away with at least one of that trio would be disappointing.
If that is true I’d be very disappointed if we overthought it. Mackenzie/Clark and Hewett is a perfect draft. Two pure mids with either xfactor or ability to be a 200+ game player.

Ginbey and Allan would be terrible. Both are athletic beasts but have no idea how to play in the middle and have either shot up the board or gained hype due to their combine results, that’s a red flag for me. They could make the move one day but there’s no need to take that risk considering the other options on the board.

My prediction, not that it means anything and ignoring F/S bids aside from Ashcroft

1. GWS Cadman
2. Bris Ashcroft
3. NM Wardlaw
4. NM Sheezel
5. Ess Tsatas
6. GCoast Ginbey
7. Hawks Phillipou
8. Cats Humphrey
9. Eagles McKenzie
10. Saints Clark
11. Blues Hollands
12. Dogs Busslinger
13. Eagles Allan
14. Dees Jefferson
15. Swans Weddle
16. GWS George
17. Pies J.Ryan
18. Swans Cowan
19. GWS Hayes
20. GWS Hotton
21. Eagles Hewett

McKenzie, Allen, Hewett. I would take that Eagles haul!

Spot on. Sooner or later we've got to draft midfielders who excel as and have proven performance as midfielders. Justification for not doing this in the past was we didn't have high enough picks. Well we do now, so take the opportunity.

I’m fine with Ginbey and Allan in isolation, but both are high risk high reward type players in the sense of making it as really top line midfielders.

I’d prefer a Clark/McKenzie type as one of our picks tonight, to go along with one of the aforementioned players.
I'm actually not too concerned if we grabbed both, depending on who's still on the board.

Ginbey's CBD work actually looks pretty decent and Allen is a moon shot player worth the risk.

This defeats the purpose of trading one top end pick for 2 as we have done. We have 2 bites at the midfield cherry. If our first 2 aren't genuine mids why did we bother going up pick 2

So we could lose out on all the best fitting mids and pick the best tall or “hbf with midfield potential” and claim we had no other options so went best available

There’s not a lot of new information here but this bit in relation to West Coast I found amusing given most of the posting here of late

Worst-case scenario: Ginbey, who’s been seen as the Eagles’ No. 1 draft priority for months, is snapped up before West Coast’s opening selection then the Demons trade ahead of the Eagles to pinch Allan.
'Dream scenario'.

I hope the West Coast recruiters forget about combine results and go with their gut as to who has shown footy smarts and talent for our first two picks.

And I am hoping that includes something like McKenzie and Hewett before going with speculative picks after that.

Surprised people are still against Ginbey at our first, we're clearly not the only club that are considering him in the first round.

Disturbing lack of boats. Not sure if I’m right or wishful thinking but think that’s pieman with phillipou, Jefferson and hewett shaking hands. Done deal For our first three picks I think. F965DB3F-9D05-4986-A69C-5B34D369CB7D.jpeg

It annoys me when the vicbias media write these articles as though we can’t pick anyone outside WA

What I’d like to see

Mackenzie with our 1st pick

Hope that Ginbey slides to our 2nd as I like his big body and aggression. If he’s not there then Allan

Hewett with our 3rd, even if it means combining Ports F2 with 20 to move into one of the NSW picks or maybe Collingwood might be interested

If that happens I really don’t care who we get with our 4th pick. Potentially look at trading down from 26 into the 30’s if we’re keen on Smith and won’t to get a future pick back to replace the F2 from port if we traded it

Yeah but when one of those clubs is Gold Coast and the attributes in a player they look for are:
1) Do they want to go live on the Gold Coast
2) Will they stay on the Gold Coast
3) Can they play a bit of footy

It doesn't necessarily mean he's worth a top 10 pick...
