It’s time the AFL scrapped the rookie draft/list as it’s moved so far away from its original purpose to not even be funny

Half the selections today were clubs just redrafting blokes they’d delisted

The other half were ruckmen by the look of it which leads me to think if they wanted to do a rookie list of sorts, allow each club to have one developing ruck outside their normal list given they take longer to mature

But **** the rookie list as it stands right off. It’s pointless

It annoys me every year that the players already attached to a club seem to get valued less and picked later than they should.

Ashcroft not getting picked at pick 1 is a joke. I was surprised there wasn't an eyebrow raising pick swap between GWS and Lions later on that was heavily favoured to GWS. Maybe next year that will happen... there are lots of gentlemens agreements going on I suspect.

If it’s all about getting your player and guernsey on the papers (which is betaclub areas) just make a rule that if a bid is matched at pick 1, that player is pick 2. Do the first pick behind closed doors then announce it.
