When the worst thing we have to complain about is using the last spot on the list to redraft Zane Trew at a point in the rookie draft where most clubs were passing rather than use a pick, I’d say we’ve had a pretty good draft given some of the doomsday scenarios being floated predraft

BUT WHAT ABOUT BORDERLINE TALENT ?!?

Someone else will get him and our future is ruined. 😬😬😬

Absolutely, the prospect of Ginbey and Allan kept me up at night in a severe state of spiralling depression

Hewett where we got him is good value and makes me more comfortable with the Ginbey selection - I still would’ve preferred Phillipou, but won’t lose any sleep over it anymore. Barnett was a smart pick, Burgiel imo could very well end up being a steal and on paper at least he fits us perfectly and Noah Long looks okay as well

Colin Young on Schoeys podcast also said top 3 WA talent to go would be Ginners, Allen and Buss. No mention of Hewett.

We have played the system like a fiddle. It shouldn't be surprising given how tightly guarded our draft strategy is.

Now bring on 15 years of rumours and speculation that we hid Hewett 🙃

From my quick look 11 rookies were re-drafted, 2 went from one AFL club to another, there was 1 father-son, and there were 12 passes.

That's 26 out of the 41 available picks.

The rest appear to be ruckmen (slight exaggeration).

But no, we know more about the dregs of a weak draft than the bloke that just smashed the actual important draft.

Honestly hadn’t noticed

Me too. But as you know, some have to grizzle about something no matter how trivial.😏

ROB has done an awesome job for the past three drafts now.

Everyone was pleasantly happy with Ledwards, Winder and Trew as a rookie in 2020.
2021 crop looks a beauty and that before our first pick plays a game.

Now I know it’s still November and there’s no premierships for being November kings but when we bottom out, we do it hard (2000 & 2010 still hurts) and we do it quickly.

Here’s to death riding the shit out of Port and improving out 2023 hand!

In all seriousness though, what is the intel coming out of the club as to why Trew was re-drafted?

Clearly, it wasn't his 2022 form........

Was Trew actually contracted for 2023 which was then reworked into a rookie contract?

In my view, it’s as close to perfect as we could have gone given the limitations placed by other clubs. From a personal point of view I got the players I hoped we would get but with an upgrade of the ruckman and a surprise in Noah Long who should be handy as a small forward and mid. I’m particularly pleased to get the two Cat B rookies as we need as many options as we can get. After relentless rubbishing the recruitment crew by any on this board, it’s time they got some kudos

Now that everyone is happier with the draft than we’ve all been in years, I suggest retiring the Pieman nickname.

For no reason other than it’s the most embarrassing cringeworthy s**t posted on this board, and please keep in mind I’m forced to read my own posts before hitting send.

Well drafted, even brought the absolutely superstar that is Izzy Winder back. 2023 flag locked in.
I suggest the Pieman has worked his way through the discomfort of the name.

His last 2 drafts plus Culley sees me using the term Pieman as one of endearment.

My mother taught our family that you embrace a nickname and work your way through it. Complaining about it will only bring about more teasing.

Fast forward to 2022 and the younger brigade think a nickname is bullying.

HoneyBadger35 - when you read my posts using the term Pieman, read it as a badge of honour.

BOND 007 - does ROB know we call him the Pieman? If so, does he see the funny side?

1) Yes was contracted so there is a $ reason
2) Many on here lauded his selection 12 months ago yet now want him gone. Trew can play & given a good run injury free WC believe he can offer something. Whether that transpires to be - let's wait and see. It is however not a great issue I wouldn't have thought.

never complain about a nickname - it only encourages them

It’s pretty much irrelevant now, but were Winder and Trew actually contracted as reported in The West or had they merely been promised contracts?

I suggest we are not the only club re-drafting through the rookie list to manage cap space. GWS and Crows did it.

Dewar and Baker will give us 2 young project rookies so no complaints with the 2 we got today. It might just be the jolt that they need. Hell, I believe Winder has joined the Freo boys accelerating their fitness. Now show that for a sustained period and on game day.
