I find the offering of Natanui a two year deal, as reported on AFL, more upsetting than Rioli putting his hand up to go. It shows the people in charge are utter morons and still don't get it. A 27 year old second tier player putting his hand up for a trade away from a club that is years away from being in a flag window anyway pales in comparison to having total morons in charge of your list in terms of how much damage will be inflicted on our club over time.

How many other clubs would be offering Natanui two years? I think none. He is a very marginal player now. Can't run, chase or be accountable. Is having two or three goals a week kicked on him because oppositions rucks are running off him every chance they get and know he is not fit enough to go with them. And lets say there are one or two clubs out there that would offer him two years, he wouldn't take the offer anyway. When his playing days are over he will walk straight into a highly paid job in the Perth sports media. I don't think one extra year on a contract would be enough to get him to move away from Perth and his family and girlfriend and budding media career here. I am pretty certain that he would pass it up and just roll the dice and hope to get a second one year deal with WCE at the end of 2023. And if he did decide to go and take a two year deal somewhere else then so be it. It doesn't diminish our 5 year plan. Yet we offered him two years anyway.

I don't have anything against Natanui. I think he has been a great player and i have enjoyed watching him play footy for us. I feel sorry for him that he missed out on 2018. And i wish him the best in the future. But the fact that the people in charge of the club are handing out contracts like this when there is no more attractive counter bid for him that is likely to be accepted anyway is very scary. I take this as further evidence of how incompetent and removed from reality our club admin leadership and hierarchy is and i feel very pessimistic about our future with these people in charge. We need unapologetically hard nosed ****ers in charge who are completely committed to what is in the best interests of the club and are not trying to be best mates with the players.

How did you feel when the club did the Sam Mitchell trade?

Do you think this could be a similar situation?

Has he signed a 2 year deal or is it all just media speculation?

I’d probably hold my thoughts until I understood what happens net of the AFL ambassador payments and soft cap

Or we could draft a forward pocket to play as a forward pocket.

Wild.
Doubt there are any forward pockets in this years draft who walk straight into an AFL team next year.
Any small forward we draft this year (if we do) is probably a couple of years away from being a lock.

Nicnat is only one year removed from being AA.

It's not out of the realms of possibility that he can get fit, over any niggling injuries, and back to somewhere close to his 2021 form. That puts him in the top handful of ruckmen in the league.
It amazes me when people can’t see a player is cooked.

Half a Nic Nat is still better than most other ruckmen and two times a Bailey Williams.

People said he was cooked after his second knee reco and he won the B&F two years in a row. He won't reach the same heights but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts he'll have a net positive result on the team.

NN playing on is limited opportunity cost given we have no ready replacement he'd be stunted the development of. Williams, if he's here next year, gets a game in the more appropriate role of second ruck. Jamieson is still at the stage where he can develop through the WAFL (and physically) and can still get games through injury. Plus I'd like to think if we draft a Barnett or Broadbent, they won't be called upon at AFL level within the next two years.

Nic is still worth his weight in gold, for hit outs, centre clearances, contested ball, tackling and him scaring the shit out of opposition players. I thought between rounds 1-4 he was covering the ground pretty well. The knee injury robbed him of all his conditioning.

I don't think you can play Nic and Bailey in the same team though, they don't complement each other very well. If we start Nic next year we should play an extra key defender or forward, letting one of Gov, H.Edwards or Waterman chop out in the ruck.
