Perhaps they just accept we will be average and are willing to develop Bailey and Jamieson in that time. In two years' time, they are either ready or delisted.

Geez, I hope you’re not on the money.

Might cancel my membership for two years and rejoin when we no longer accept mediocrity.

If we are not chasing a better number 2 ruckman ( who can go number 1 if required) I’d be surprised. Maybe looking at another option on the ruck merry go round.

I find the offering of Natanui a two year deal, as reported on AFL, more upsetting than Rioli putting his hand up to go. It shows the people in charge are utter morons and still don't get it. A 27 year old second tier player putting his hand up for a trade away from a club that is years away from being in a flag window anyway pales in comparison to having total morons in charge of your list in terms of how much damage will be inflicted on our club over time.

How many other clubs would be offering Natanui two years? I think none. He is a very marginal player now. Can't run, chase or be accountable. Is having two or three goals a week kicked on him because oppositions rucks are running off him every chance they get and know he is not fit enough to go with them. And lets say there are one or two clubs out there that would offer him two years, he wouldn't take the offer anyway. When his playing days are over he will walk straight into a highly paid job in the Perth sports media. I don't think one extra year on a contract would be enough to get him to move away from Perth and his family and girlfriend and budding media career here. I am pretty certain that he would pass it up and just roll the dice and hope to get a second one year deal with WCE at the end of 2023. And if he did decide to go and take a two year deal somewhere else then so be it. It doesn't diminish our 5 year plan. Yet we offered him two years anyway.

I don't have anything against Natanui. I think he has been a great player and i have enjoyed watching him play footy for us. I feel sorry for him that he missed out on 2018. And i wish him the best in the future. But the fact that the people in charge of the club are handing out contracts like this when there is no more attractive counter bid for him that is likely to be accepted anyway is very scary. I take this as further evidence of how incompetent and removed from reality our club admin leadership and hierarchy is and i feel very pessimistic about our future with these people in charge. We need unapologetically hard nosed ****ers in charge who are completely committed to what is in the best interests of the club and are not trying to be best mates with the players.

Ok sounds like you've read the contract.

What were the terms if he got injured?

I don't think you can play Nic and Bailey in the same team though, they don't complement each other very well. If we start Nic next year we should play an extra key defender or forward, letting one of Gov, H.Edwards or Waterman chop out in the ruck.

Depends if Williams remembers how to play FF as he did in u18.

He is a forward / 2nd ruck. Need to play him forward more and he supports the main ruck.

Meek would be a good get.

Williams hasnt got a contract ATM so lets wait till the merry go round stops.

Whilst the onus of conditioning and diet is undoubtedly on the player, I don't think Nics present condition is 100% his fault. Rather, I think its in part that everyone at the club is telling him he is fit when clearly, he isn't. And he gets a false sense of where he is at

I would wager that if the people close to him at the club told him he was unfit and overweight, he would express legitimate surprise. Because everyone is so keen to pump up his tires, and he can get away with so much on raw ability, nobody is pulling him up that his physical standards have long slipped

I would love to think that he will go crazy this pre season and drop 10kgs. But he won't. And he won't in part because everyone at the club will be pissing in his pocket rather then telling him the cold, hard truth. Which might even extend his career.

.- your hopes of Logue joining us are gone - will be at North Melbourne. 4 Dockers look like they have deals or have told them that they want trades. Acres to Carlton. Lobb to Dogs and Meek to GWS.

North may finally get a decent level trade - probably the Clarkson effect.
From our boards trade thread.

It amazes me when people can’t see a player is cooked.

People said that after the 2nd knee reco.

Nic is now our old dog of the ruck division fighting on until the kids develop or we trade in another. Over the next two seasons English is a pre- agent in 12 months and a RFA a year later. I'd suggest that has a fair bit to do with his 2 year deal plus we need to spend every draft pick we have until then on fixing other parts of the list.

No team rebuilds in 2 drafts.

No disagreement in any of that from me.

I’d rather not p!ss anyone else off here discussing NicNat.

On our board I can be pretty quick to call a player cooked.

It was pretty evident last year that Mitch Robinson had dropped off a fair bit. This year, Fagan has tried to play others on the wing, barring injury and Covid.

Rich, Zorko and Lyons have all dropped off as well this year. There’s an obvious reluctance by the coaches to play younger players in their stead, as those kids obviously aren’t up to AA level or near AA level.

However for our team to remain competitive and stay in contention, we need to move beyond our experienced, ageing players at some point.

It shocked everyone on our board when we finally dropped Lyons and Mathieson for this weekends do or die final, and kept Robertson in.

Quite a few posters have been calling for such changes all season, so that this team would have a chance to gel and play together before finals were upon us.

Too many time unfit players got a game, something I cannot understand after the finals were out of reach. Nicnat playin ghte later games was one of these head scratchers. Get players fit before putting them on the park.
There were far too many occasions where obviously unfit players were on the park.

Interesting Meek being linked to GWS. With Pruess, Flynn and Biggs who just signed a 2 year extension.
Does that mean Flynn is on the discard pile? Has looked ok in some games.

All of Preuss, Flynn and Briggs are contracted for next year. Surely Meek coming in would push one of them out. Presumably Flynn, since Briggs only just re-signed for a couple of years.

I’d be pretty happy going after Flynn. He’s basically the same age as Meek (six months older), and his ruck stats compare fairly well.

So you think the bloke is that stupid and lacking any clear thinking that he doesn’t really know he is unfit.?

Makes as much sense as any.

What is the point for GWS?

I can see that replacing NicNat would be incredibly difficult, especially if you don’t have a ready made replacement.

Throwing a young ruck, who’s not ready, can potentially be very bad for their development.

That also falls back on the list management team failing to adequately plan ahead (and it’s not like you’re the only team to be in such a situation, we were in that situation last year).

I believe that he believes that he is fit
because he is being told he is and nobody is pulling him up and saying otherwise

Maybe Nic's just lazy and unfit, but I suspect they've decided his knees are so shot that his leap is gone anyway no matter his weight, and he might as well end his career as a pack-smashing Absolute Unit instead. Not sure if that's wise or not, but it's more likely than him being delusional and our S&C team being cowards.
