Curtains for Curtin….
I'm super afraid of Brander & Lemmey types who regress in their draft year. For every bargain you might find (off field/injury) there's 9 busts. I only follow the colts and he was okay last year but not anything special. Those watchers of 16's and PSA seem to rate him very highly though.

Love your view nothing wrong with calling it how you see it especially since you are watching these kids. Still a long way to go :thumbsupemoji:

Don't be surprised to see Jarrod Cameron having another crack at AFL footy again ..Playing footy in the country has reignited his passion and AFL dreams ..
I went to the Souths v Swans WAFL game on the weekend. He looked to be having a crack but had very little impact. Got a lot of work to do.

Joziah Nannup for the Young Guns is interesting. Surname suggests his family background is from WA given that is a Noongar surname/place name.

Plays for the Dandenong Stingrays. Jai Culley and Bailey Williams’ alma mater.
first nations names are very distinctive in W.A..I went to school with a Ugle,Mippy and Calyun.Eastern states names are a lot more anglcised like andrew macleod,Adam Goodes,Sir Doug Nichols.

Suma would say our draft targets are all from WA:🦢🖤💛

Even with the youth we have drafted- we still need to add 1x star KPF and a good stopper FB. Then fill up with midfielders, legitimate fwds and flankers.
Our top pick should be spent on the best available (midfielder Chump Change 😉 )and there aren't any standout talls at this stage that #1-3 should be spent on- we go shopping in the 2nd round. There's a lack of depth in the midfielders this year so I expect a few bargains with the taller players🤑

At this stage the likely top 20 draftees from WA are:

Clay Hall: Big bodied midfielder and can go fwd, has cracked league games for Peel. Could go top 10💫
Luker Kentfield: I'm 🔥🔥🔥 on at the moment who may be around in the teens. For mine one of WA's top prospects who isn't getting the love. Fantastic overhead.
Koltyn Tholstrup likely goes in the early teens if he's there at #19 I'd snap him up as something like a Robbie Grey type of player, not the most athletic but a natural footballer.
Coen Livingstone: Probably goes in the 20's but has extreme height & ruck ability. Looks to go in between our picks ☹️(no ability to match bids) but not someone I would reach for.
Mitchell Edwards: Big tall ruck who wins all of the hitouts. Theres a lot to work with but isn't elite at any single facet at this stage.
Samuel Van Rooyen: also looks to go in the 20's but could be there at ports 2nd rounder #33
Hardeman would be on this list, started the year in the WAFL league side.

We've been mentioned in links to Narkle

25 so not over the hill.

No standout 19 yr olds so far.

Wouldn't be the worst pick but feel I'd rather roll he dice on a kid who just missed out getting drafted last year and has improved.

Narkle could play straight up and lessen the bleeding / floggings May even help snag an unlikely win. But will it help win our next flag?

Stats for the Essendon VFL team this year haven’t been horrible either. Highlights being a 3 goal, 15 disposal game against GWS and 24 disposals, 10 tackles and a goal against Sandringham (St Kilda).

I’d rather we use a second MSD pick on him and go for Maric or Teal (or similar) with our first pick.

He might not last til then though, I guess.

Does a mid season draft pick count as a list change for end of season ? As in clubs needing to make 5 changes, would the MSD pick count as one of those?

No it doesn’t

And it’s 3 changes not 5, or more correctly 3 picks in the main draft with upgrades from the rookie list counting as a selection.

There’s nothing to lose by picking up a couple of players in the midseason draft with the injury list we’re carrying at the moment and where both of our men’s sides are sitting right now.

Nothing to gain by saving the spots of Cripps for a game or 2 or someone like Winder who is TBC and a known quantity who’s likely out the door come seasons end.

Get some new kids in and start cycling through the list asap. Get some fit bodies out there playing for god’s sake and hope we can uncover a gem or atleast someone with a higher ceiling than Winder, Trew, West ect.

Ask yourself - Would Narkle help us to be competing for a flag in 2026?

I wouldn't mind Narkle having a run with us.

Similar situation to last year with Jake Florenca

Rather we took the standout overlooked junior (Culley) rather than a mid 20s seconds player

Long term gain vs short term reward

Sam Gilbey fits the bill. Some had him in their top 30 likely picks in last year's draft before he broke his leg. 18 years old playing seconds at Claremont in his comeback and has been in their best 2 players in 2 of the 3 results I've looked at. Could be our Shepherd replacement and we get him for free.

Would any player help us compete for a flag in 2026?

Would we be better off with Narkle instead of Xon or Trew or Winder?

We have quite a few underperforming players and we can't replace all of them with draftees as we also have a few old blokes on their last leg. (Not legs.....just one decent leg I will say).

Of course according to old mate, Simmo is a deadshit and we will take another ruck in the mid-season draft like we were definitely going to last year :cute:

Florenca had/has less proven AFL ability than Narkle. Narkle has been a fringe player for several years at a strong club.
He may have something which hasn’t quite emerged yet. Would certainly offer more than our present fringe midfielders.
I wouldn’t be against the idea if Narkle’s head was in it.
