Sam Gilbey fits the bill. Some had him in their top 30 likely picks in last year's draft before he broke his leg. 18 years old playing seconds at Claremont in his comeback and has been in their best 2 players in 2 of the 3 results I've looked at. Could be our Shepherd replacement and we get him for free.
Gotta agree with this, if we get a free hit at topping up our youth, you take it. I remember Gilbey's name being mentioned a lot last year as a possible second round pick, so if he has bounced back well fromhis broken leg, then it's a punt worth taking. Narkle is fine but there's a reason no other club picked up him up last year.

Would any player help us compete for a flag in 2026?

Would we be better off with Narkle instead of Xon or Trew or Winder?

We have quite a few underperforming players and we can't replace all of them with draftees as we also have a few old blokes on their last leg. (Not legs.....just one decent leg I will say).
If narkle comes in it would be to replace rookies Trew,West and Winder who are likely to be delisted.Would be a improvement on those three and we haven't even looked at the driftwood that will be delisted from the main list.It is a delicate balance of can we get young talent in the msd or do we look at some mature players.Even if we cut deep this year and use all our five picks for youth do we need to improve our list with restricted free agents ,out of contracted players or players in the msd that are not list cloggers as we have too many.

How does from Subiaco Lance Collard kicked 6 goals v West Perth Colts rate ?
West Perth are the bunnies of the WAFL this year. His better performances are against the weaker teams so far which is a bit of a red flag as he shows some nice stuff and then goes missing for long periods despite being played quite a lot through the midfield.
Could be a rookie chance at this stage IMO but definitely one to watch out for if he can get the consistency.

I’d like us to go with Maric and bring him in.
He is not ready to make massive impact straight away as with most key position prospects he needs some time in the gym but I reckon he could play a role at either end of the ground if given an opportunity and time.
It’s a free hit so take a key position prospect that’s arguably playing better football than a lot of the top draft prospects of this year currently.

A bit further down the pecking order.
Got immediately bounced back down to colts where he has been fine, but I have him in that next bracket of players at the moment.
I think he's a slightly better prospect than Tholstrup, who I think is slightly overrated and I think Hardeman has lots of development left in him.
But everyone see's it differently, which is good.

I've got in the overrated camp: Tholstrup, Duursma and you'd have to say Curtin at this stage. Although I've seen Curtin at his best, and it's bloody good. But that was last year, and you're right he might be the next Lemmey.

For the record I'm not saying Duursma and Tholstrup aren't any good, more that they're being overhyped.

Hopefully a kid has a big 8 weeks and a clear #1 stands out like Culley did.

And possibly maybe we are affected by other plans list wise. If we are definitely targeting another ruck in the main draft then no point bringing in one in the msd.

Capable shorter players often get overlooked at the draft so maybe some value and potential there.

The smaller defenders often slides.

As long as they are quick, have semi decent skills a work ethic and limited injury history.

How tough would the club be using the PSD as a threat or even a tool.

I think they would have no drama doing a reverse Ebert and bringing Georgiades in that way. That would bring a smile to my face even though I do not value Mitch. In addition, we ask Cornes again about his 1st round prediction.

Other WA out of contract to consider:

Think Angus - we have a good relationship with Sydney so I cannot see us using doing it
Robertson - Lions have gone hard in recent years at the trade table so it might be an option
Trey Ruscoe - not sure of our relationship there but a toxic move for a player of average ability does not make sense
Tyler Brockman - screw the Hawks, I like the idea
Jeremy Sharp - not worth souring a trading relationship but I suspect he is delisted anyway.

Roberston should be cheap and will be chasing a chance to prove himself you would think

Sharp, Brockman (especially Brockman) worth looking at and trying to pry out of Hawthorn.

Should be talking to DGB if he's unhappy at Hawthorn and Georgiades would be a great fit as well and should be using the PSD threat especially after the lowball we got for Junior Rioli.

Then start planting seeds for big fish in 2024 in McDonald and Naughton

Need more than 2 picks to make it worth leaving Reid to someone else.
Of course. Based on Lore's current draft pick order I could see a trade down for 1(not including players) being like the following:

1 and 33 for 3, 7 and a Future 1st with GWS
1 for 5, 17, 24 and a Future 1st with Melbourne
I could even see Gold Coast coming out of nowhere and doing 6, 25 and a Future 1st if Jed Walter does so well this year that he gets locked in as a top 5 pick.

GWS the only deal with appeal amongst that lot for mine. Doesn't increase our picks in a promising draft, but improves the position we take them. Would consider splitting 7 from there depending what's on the table.

I agree, but believe you’d need to give back something a bit better than 33. Something around 25 feels right.

Some really mediocre MSD suggestions floating around with Gilbey, Narkle & Teal. We've got these guys on our list and if we're not picking up someone who is filling a niche in terms of position and quality you might as well have a swing at a more speculative player like a traditional rookie.

We need to be adding offensive potency and none of the above guys do that.

Agree on Narkle and Teal but whenever I've watched Gilbey play he has impressed as an offensive half back who is good overhead, very good pace and excellent kick. A touch of figjam about him too which we could do with.

So if I said to you can have Nick Dacios who was the real number one in 2021 but due to father son slide or

GWS option Finn Callaghan, Josh Ward and Wardlaw (GWS future 1st)

Dees option Mac Andrew, Tom Browne, Toby Conway and Matt Jefferson (Dees future 1st)

Suns option Josh Rachelle, Mitchell Knevitt and Bailey Humphrey (suns future 1st )

Reid currently stands out as the overall number one even more so than what Dacios did in his draft year.
