Spot on the money.

His family would rather him be in Melbourne so they can travel down watch him every week at home etc etc.

think they will turn pretty quickly if it does happen that we draft him but I think it’s definitely a big part of the discussion
Clubs have access to travel allowances for families, that is outside the cap. It’s not a huge pot, but I’m sure a club like West Coast would be able to stretch it pretty far.

It was originally referring to someone posting a rumour on the Dogs board about the Eagles making a monster offer to English which he is supposedly likely to accept
Did they stipulate a year?

Might always be a preemptive over for next year.

Still seems a weird thing for WCE to do. I wonder if Bailey Williams' improvement might've cooled the urgency for WCE to make an offer?

English is a great player but if we're not contending for another 5 years, he's going to be near the end of his career and winding down.

The flip side is WCE will have a huge amount of money free up from the cap over the next 2 years. Next year just makes way more sense to me.

They were confident it was this year, which was surprising because I agree that next year makes a lot more sense. I guess there's two factors that could be contributing to making it this year:
1. If English himself has said "now or never" given he'd want to be making long term decisions for him and his partner, including where she signs on (she plays professional netball)
2. If you lose Barrass to Sydney, you may want to lessen the blow by replacing a quality player with another quality player to reduce the likelihood of having as bad a year next year

I would still be shocked if English actually did end up traded to WC this year. Strange move but who knows

Doesn’t make sense.

Pick 5 or 6 means Curtin is probably off the board.

Pick 12 and 15 I don’t see much that we want really except for M Edwards but we have just got English so that makes no sense.

The best of the other WA boys in Hardeman, Tholstrup,Sanchez and Hall are probably all still on the board at the start of the second round or at least most of them will be.

If English wanted to come home now for whatever reason and wanted the dogs to receive more compensation what the dogs would get under a FA then I still don’t see why West Coast would offer pick one.

I also don’t see why the Eagles would let a good key Defender go and basically replace him with a good Ruckman. It’s not improving our list.

It makes sense to a board who want to see instant improvement.

And to be seen as actively addressing our shortcomings.

Stop the floggings.

Tholstrop and Edwards would fall around 12 and 15. And remember our 19 will likely fall to 25.

Would be absolutely mental to go after English a year before FA, especially if it’s true we’re offering massive coin. Easy to see the Dogs just taking the compo (possibly with a few other favourable pick swaps).

If we use pick 1 to get English here we are insane. Next years first is slightly more palatable being an unknown pick (still likely top 5 though). But any trade this year is a horrible move.

Any trade full stop. He is a great player but we are in the middle (some say the beginning) of a rebuild. Tim will be 27 before the end of next years season.

He is not in the age bracket i would want to be trading top picks away for.

If WC trade away the number #1 pick during a rebuild towards a bloke who will be 27 next August and a free agent to boot then just burn the whole ******* club to the ground and start again. FMD.

Really wouldnt stress

The "source" is some guy on the Dogs board, who (if I've got the correct poster) also said this about English less than 2 mths ago

"All i know is he's happy at dogs and the WA connection is a load of crap his family live ages away from Perth and his GF is looking to start playing netball here in VIC. Gossage has no idea just chasing some cheap likes"

Something about throwing enough darts....

Yeah I just meant close to home. 2.5 hour drive etc.

I know WCE are excellent with interstate families (as are most clubs now) so don’t think it would be an isue going forward if we did take him

Just as a heads up, the word on the Bulldogs board is that English to us this season is 90% done, we’re offering obscene money apparently. Which means we’d need to trade for him. It doesn’t make sense really, but it may be something to keep an eye on.
Ehy Rhino don’t you have beeter things than post on BF?

Trading big for a guy who is a FA next year is just the type of stupid thing I can see the club doing at present.
Can see it coming from a mile off unfortunately. NN likely retiring injured in the near future so they’ll get tunnel vision for another star ruck that wants to come home. Hope they prove me wrong.

English would be a nice luxury but only if we can massively front load his contract at the end of next year and the Bulldogs don’t match. Otherwise pass

Really not much upside for anyone in us trading for English this year (except for the Bulldogs dreaming about our first rounders lol). Not like he's going to be the difference between finals or not for us but he could be for the Dogs. Even without NN surely we're better off getting another year into Bailey (who is one of the better young rucks going around now anyway) and getting better reads on Jamo and Barnett while we are otherwise so uncompetitive. Let English have one more crack at success with the Dogs then see how things look next year.
