My knock on both Clay Hall and Tholstrup is essentially #whatsthepoint.

It's going to sound harsh, so pardon the intrusion and come in peace with me for just for a moment.

Hall is the definition of a vanilla sandwich. He runs around collecting the pill like nobody's business, but turns it over with s**t/lazy skill and you sit back at the end of the day with his 30 disposals and 7 tackles and think... "Did this Kent actually impact the game positively for his team or what?"
Reminds me of another campaigner who used to play for us.

Tholstrup is just another Clem Smith enforcer idiot Paddy Mcginnity lite with a skullet who's going to play what role at AFL level? Mid? Can't get enough of it. Medium forward? Lel. If you're going to take a punt on a talented medium forward you need one with good/freakish skills at least. Tholstrop don't get those, he's just a nothing pick IMO, I'm really not sure why he's rated so highly.

If you need a bit of mongrel and you're in need of someone like Tholstrup to tag an oppo half back or something, that's fine.. pick them up later in the draft or as a rookie. Not with a high second rounder like 19.

Plenty of talented players will still be on the board to kickoff night 2. Caleb Windsor, Harry Demattia, Mitch Edwards for example. I'd rather we added a couple more of those first before bringing in Tholstrup/Hall types later.

Tholstrup was a bit shit in the champs. Strutted around with that silly hair cut like he was a boss, but delivered f-all. I don't think he'll go inside 30.

Hall. Tholstrup. Hardeman. I'm a no for all 3.

Mate there are some in here that are too scared to pick Victorians, Tasmanians, and now your saying limit the WA Talent pool?

If they're good enough and at the right spot, pick them. This is no different to many 1,000 victorian kids who head into interviews with the same message. I am going to miss mummy.

I thought Tholstrup was the FIG Kid? And is he no chance at him sliding to 19?

I've been on the Harley train from the start. Would take McKercher at 2, if we had pick 2. But not giving up an F1 for him.

Hall. Tholstrup. Hardeman. I'm a no for all 3.

I like Collard, but any player floating that they won't travel, is a massive red flag.

I typically like best available, no matter where they come from.

Weatherill is an interesting one. I have him outside the top 30 but as you said he is going completely unmentioned. Remember I also have a role and obviously won't be commenting on certain players for specific reasons. I also had Cadman nowhere near pick 1 on talent. Significantly better all round game than Jefferson but his goal kicking was a real turn off for me.

Morris on the other hand I think is going to be a tweener and already being 90kg it's a lot less likely to see growth in the more physically developed guys. Not on my list at all but I can see why he would be by some.

With so much tall talent coming in the dogs have to lose someone. I hope the club is in the ears of Busslinger and his manager and is pushing hard for him to come home next year. Would solve a lot of problems. Been very happy with his progress in the VFL this year.
Who is the KPF who was drafted into Vic Country late (maybe after the first game)?

5 yrs on the list was not long enough for Foley to actually show something for some people..

Spent years investing in Foley then we traded for Witherden who to this day does not know how to defend. All because Withers can pull off an awesome kick every once in a while.

What’s the knock on Tholstrup? Feel like he’s getting similar numbers to Hewett last year in league with no real midfield time ? Genuine question

IMO he does not have elite skills and polish like some players but I love his attitude.
He loves to contest for the ball and enjoys the physical side of the game. I think he is the type of player we need. Reminds me a bit of a young Powell-Pepper.

The experts seem to think he is a late first early second round.

I would love to split 19 if it could get us 2 picks in the twenties and maybe take Tholstrup if available and Collard.

Although conceding the height advantage to his opponent, ZZ came out on Top in his ruck battle against Coen Livingston, winning the hit outs and exerting more influence around the ground.

I am happy to pull the trigger with Port's R2 for big Zak. He has a load of AFL attributes that will see him make it. I really like that he enjoys the physicality of the game and had no problems seeing off Livingstone who also has a bit of campaigner about him.

Watch out for the Claremont Colts GF team - in defence or midfield will be Zac (CHB or ruck), Curtin (HB or mid) and Fonti (running half back with great wheels or wing) and all three I expect to be drafted.

If we need to use our Port's R2 for Sweet, I would be very happy going to our trading mate Sydney and getting their pick 30 for a future R3 and pick 54. A bid is likely on Cleary early second round hence offering the future R3 means they clear out their picks 41, 49 and say 54 which would match the bid. They can then resell their own or our future if they want back in after the bid match.

I suspect the Swans will offer up the Hawks R2 for Grundy. They like us get accused of being soft at the trade table but unlike Dodoro, we both usually get it done and do the business early.

We then have 1, 19, 30 and 38 on draft night
with 57 used on Brockman and 35 used on Sweet

If we want a running half back or outside wing with speed, Fonti is a cheaper version of Windsor or Hardeman or Wilson and pick 38 would be fine by me.

Hard disagree on Clay Hall. He's one of the better all around midfield prospects in this draft. He can win his own ball, he spreads from the stoppage really well and he makes himself available through hard running.

Yes, he's kicking lacks depth and becomes less precise over distance. But he's neat and less prone to shanking the kick than some highly strung users in this draft cough Hardeman.

He's a good size at 190 cm. You're not going to worry about his ability to compete at stoppages.

Yeah DeMattia is quick but he's a scrapper with an undeveloped game.

I’m shocked at the number of people that were shocked by that news.
I seen it and first thought was, is that all.

If I had my way I'd be chopping left right and centre. They seem a bit slow with these delistings. We getting only one delisted every week.

I could make the decision to cut 8 players in a minute. It's becoming a long drawn out process for mine. Just cut them. Bang bang bang all deadwood gone. Thanks for coming see you later.

If Gold Coast trade 4 to the Dogs for 10 and 17 should we trade for 10?

Our 19 will be selecting the 26th ranked player. Have a look around who is ranked around there and Im not reading too many names people have been mentioning here.

Windsor and Murphy ranked 19 and 20 will need to slide.

Sanchez early 20's.

Hardeman, Moir, Hall, Leake (Tas) all around 24 to 30.

Others there but very even.

We’d have to look at it, who would we grab? O’Sullivan or Wilson would probably be best available.

Rate Tholstrup late 20s early 30s-ish and agree there will probably be better at our pick ~19, but will push back on this a little. Medium-sized pressure guys like McCreery (admittedly quite skillful - good player), SPP & Keays are pretty valuable at the moment. If Koltyn can cover the ground well enough he'll probably have a decent career, will be interested in his combine results.

Hall will also go hard all day and can go with anyone at the hard ball or directly at the man. Could end up making a great tagger. He's no longer in my list of desired prospects with picks 1,19,35,38 but he's definitely done enough to get drafted and I rate him higher than DeMattia. DeMattia to me isn't worth drafting. If he wasn't Harley Reid's best mate I don't think much would be said of him at all.

I'd prefer Hall instead of Robertson for example. Hall can also play inside out, is good on the link up and is a good mark. I doubt the club still holds 54 but if he was there then it would be very tempting.

Outside of all the sexy "top end picks" and "ready made trades" stuff there's an element of our offseason I see as under-discussed in this forum.

Currently, we have three retirements.

The second element is delistings. Those deemed to not having a chance to make it.

My list suggests if we want to go a full "clean house" an additional 8 should make way. So that's 11 spaces for filling.

That's a significant number of new players to bring in.

Where do they all come from?
You do realise we need at least three players to delist next year. You have to look at which players contract is up and how many picks are worth taking

O'Sullivan definitely off the board before 19, may even go ahead of Curtin. He should combine very well.

Zakostelsky should also combine very, very well. Hopefully not to the point where he's out of reach of our third or Ports second.

On an earlier question I can see Evan Smith getting rookie listed, Walsh a maybe as he's finished the season quite well but would say less likely. Speaking of WA players Fonti and Hine-Baston a chance at the rookie list as well.

The combine will be really interesting this year. I think some people will be surprised at just how well some of the talls test.

Logan Evans is one I still have an eye on for a late pick and very interested in his state combine testing.

I'm quite worried Zakostelsky will test off the charts and rocket up into first round calculations.

Any kid who is calling shots in the draft, especially if they are a 3rd rounder? Red flag. If you're not willing to move interstate for an AFL career you're going to have other issues. If you think you have the negotiating power as an 18 year old 3rd rounder, then you're misguided.

And do you really think the Eagles are telling him to say that?
If you think we don't try to make sure certain players get drafted by us your very naive.

We certainly did it with darling and more recently Hewett.

Collard has been part of our NGA for a few years and if he was to play his part and play up the flight risk factor he could get drafted to the club he wants and we get one of the most talented draftees for peanuts
