I don’t hate it.

I’m just wondering , Flynn is only 200cm right? Same size as our mate Bailey “2025 Brownlow Medallist” Williams. I know Bailey is on the lighter side, but are we gaining much other than depth with another undersized ruck?

It’s a very simplistic interpretation I do understand, but I’d be asking if we’re better off taking another ruckman of a more gorilla stature, or even Lycett for a year. I understand he’s absolutely cooked and a shell of his 2018 self, but even if he only plays half the season so Bailey isn’t our sole established ruck option and doesn’t have to play through three niggles every week it’s a plus.

Presuming he’d be open to a one year deal back here, he may well be very settled back in SA and unable to uproot

Teakle sounds good, I know nothing of him but his profile fits

Officially Flynn is 202cm, not much of a difference I know.

Kalin Lane is another possibility. 205cm, also WA background and a basketball background. Turns 22 before the end of the year. Yet to debut for Brisbane, stuck behind OMac and Fort, no idea how he’s going.

Pick 19.

Has the aura of "value" as it's deemed like something that could be traded for greater value on draft day.

Like an outlier in the mix.

1-18 have there own diminishing value.

Then 19 with this aura.

Then 20 etc etc again with diminishing value.

Do we cash in the "aura" factor in trade week and bank a gain?

Say Adelaide's 20 & 23 for 19 & 35?

Or Sydney's 22 & 30 for 19?

Or Melbourne's 24 & 34 for 19?
"Hi Kinnear, this is ROB the Pieman

We really like your academy lad Cleary and want to pick him at 19 but would not want to ruin our relationship. However we heard that the Crows with the pick after us are wanting to reciprocate your bidding on Michalanney. Would you will want to get a pick in ahead of Cleary? Much better to get a pick in ahead of Cleary and true value now than face a fire sale selling 22, 30 and 41.

I believe the Swans understand the true value of a pick in this range since last year you traded with Hawthorn. From memory it was pick 18 for pick 27 and a future R2 (22) and future R3 (41). That was a haul of 1,960 points for the pick worth 985 points meaning pick 18 had a premium of 975 points.

Have I got a deal for you. We can get you ahead of the Crows with pick 19 and it will come to you at the bargain basement price of pick 22, 30 and 41. Just to invest in our relationship, we will generously give you picks 54 and 57 to help with the points matching. We are not asking for a similar premium since it is you, our deal only attaches a 536 point premium.

Are you interested in trading up?"

That would mean we go from
1, 19, 35, 38, 54 and 57

to

1, 22, 30, 35, 38, 41

With that haul we likely get the player we wanted at 19 at 22 anyway

Walk away with
1 - Harley
22 - Tholstrup or Collard as a small forward (I would not go either here but it is by way of example)
30 - Goad as a 207 cm ruck
35 - Zakolesky as a 196 cm KPD
38 - Patton as a 193 cm KPD more like 3rd tall
41 - a running half back like Fonti
Rookie - Hine-Bastion as our lockdown small defender

Went and had a look at some of his games and yes he stood out as a big brute who got involved alot inside but didnt show great pace or super skills.

An honest big mid cracking in and accumulating.

Would he be exploited on the spread at AFL level?
That's the concern at AFL level, especially for us.
If there's one thing (ok, there's more than one thing) our midfield lacks, it's pace. We get burnt time and time again with the ball coming out our attacking half. Commentators don't use the phrase 'West Coast Witches Hats' for no reason. Or kindly.

He may be a solid pickup for someone, but we really don't need another slow mid.

I’d still be very happy with DeMattia if available. The fact that he’s one of Reid’s best mates is a bonus. Would love to trade up for GCS or GWS pick as well.
I like DeMattia without him being Reid's mate .

He is hard at it , has electric pace that he actually uses to burst out of stoppage and tackles like a beast .

His kicks can be wayward but mostly from stoppage

What about Brynn Teakle? Out of contract, may get squeezed out of Port if they bring in Sweet and retain Lycett.

Good age (24 next month), size (203cm), from WA (Disclaimer; I don’t know where his uncles are from though and whether they’re associated with any Darwin team, I’m sure that’s hugely relevant to some).

Only downside is he seems to have been a bit injury prone.

I want no part of giving Port draft capital that they can turn into trades.

Let's walk him.

Might be able to get him as a free agent if we offer him a senior list spot and Port don’t.

Caddy dropped a few marks he would normally take, and his set shot kicking was a bit wayward, however this was still an impressive performance. At times he seemed to be waging a one man battle against the Dragons defense, with his teammates targeting him practically every time they went forward.

Do Port just not have a salary cap or are they just going early with the expected increase next year. I know for a fact we don't have a salary cap indication as of today.

******* pissed off not to be getting Sweet. Has been absolutely tearing up the VFL and is 100% AFL ready now as a sole ruck.

Meek was great in the WAFL and look at how he went this year for the hawks. Not saying sweets not gonna be a good I just wouldn’t be to down about it.

We just sit back, watch port stuff this up and take Sweet pick 1 preseason draft. Simples. Wouldn't that be Sweet.

I bet they throwing Rioli offers at those players too. More money for longer.

Fine if the snag a flag out of it, but surely that approach will come back to bite them at some point.
Wonder what Boak is on? Maybe Dixon will retire? Not sure how else they can afford it.

Where’s that Brisbane fella when you need him

Some recruiters believe Collard is the most talented WA player this year – a pool that includes an array of possible first-round prospects.

LOOKS LIKE COLLARD is the best in WA. Many agree & I agree. A match winner is worth more than an oversized half back. This talent academy is absolutely pointless.

Lycett is out of contract this year which was on good money

Jonas is retiring

Fair chance Port have gone early anticipating a big salary cap increase and offering contracts on that basis when other clubs have been waiting

Two of the three they’re bringing in are also SA lads

Can only say I hope that Wells and Dodoro are at their campaignerish best this trade period

All I know is when there's smoke in the Vic flog media there's usually fire.

Twomey is the most basic Kent, if he's noticed Collard kicking 10 goals in the last 2 WAFL Colts finals you better believe actual recruiters would've as well.

Twomeys rankings are just tip of the iceberg, I suspect ESPNS and other places doing monthly power rankings/phantoms Collard will have seemingly gone from a nobody outside pick 40 to now featuring.

I was staunch about waiting until pick 40 but I feel that's ships set sail and a pick split is probably on the cards. Could be another Shai Bolton, can't risk it.
Lol yeah but your initial post made it sound like Twomey had uncovered Collard and now the other teams were more likely to draft him
