Surely the priority is developing Bailey and Barnett rather than bringing a bloke in that’s going to push these guys out of position.

Jamo is a bit of cover and I’d rather see us rookie list a ruck this year.

Nic may or may not play a few games but is there to help develop these guys.

Development and getting quality youngsters on the list should be the priority. Not worrying about whether the blokes we have are dominating at the moment or not. That will come by playing them and developing them.

The thing is Bailey doesn’t have to be a world beater. I’ve been a huge critic of his but he’s seems to be improving each week now. All he has to be is someone that can show he can neutralise the best ruckmen in the game and then come out like this week and dominate the C graders. I think our midfield now is a lot better suited to roving to Bailey/inferior ruckmen than they used to be. I reckon Jammo will be great cover for and Barnett should be able to develop to his own pace.

Love the notion of Lycett coming back to his spiritual home but him being dropped to make way for a 3rd gamer or whatever he was is telling

And if you’re going to invest in a mature ruck, he needs to be durable. Something Lycett isn’t

Same reason why Naismith would be a risk
It all depends on price and Natanui's availability.

Going into next season with only Bwilliams jamo and Barnett?

Having the slice as mature ruck depth seems ok to me . Playing wafl and break glass for AFL

Get the expectation of Reid out of your mind, without the injury list being as long as my arm we win more games - we would've been a chance against Freo, possibly against Port, we possibly beat GC, Freo and Hawthorn (albeit in Tasmania).

If it happens, so be it. Culturally we don't want it though

I don’t expect the culture to change and be reinvigorated until Simpson leaves

Agree. A late first rounder who has barely been sighted for 2 years is not worth an early 2nd. Late 2nd at best IMO.
Thing is sheldrik is not getting a game because Sydney are in flag mode and have more mature options for their engine room .

If he is happy to stay at Sydney and play a lesser role or the sub then fine but if he came to us he would be getting meaningful midfield time .

We are lacking an inside extractor .

Kelly our best mid is better as the 2nd possession after the clearance and ginbey is being groomed as that balanced mid .

Personally don't see Buller as an AFL level prospect. He's not suddenly going to get more athletic in an AFL environment and I think we have the key tall coverage and on exposed form Bailey Williams is much more athletic and better in the ruck.

If Buller hadn't kicked 4 goals against Souths he wouldn't be on anyone's target list. I'm not against it if it's as a second round MSD pick at this stage but thats it. He keeps kicking goals mind you and he could be a wrecking ball up front and i'll pay closer attention. He's all strength and power. It is however a big step up to AFL level not only skill and speed wise but also in terms of fitness.

Mind you i'm not watching a lot of WAFL seniors this year but he didn't look like a standout in the WAFL preseason match against the beagles. I just happened to see Peels seniors play on the weekend due to being there to watch the Colts.

Bullers form this year may be more one to ask the more Avid WAFL fans on here.
I've watched 2 of Buller's games this year and he is a really good WAFL KPF. Monocle and I were at the Souf game and we discussed this as an option since he was the stand out. Our concern would be will his attributes flow to AFL level? Probably not. His strength in 1 on 1 contests, more a lead up mark than a pack mark, durability (this ability is gaining in importance for me), game reading and forward craft is good. The knocks on him are accuracy in front of goals (the Souf's game was unusual from what I have seen in the last 2 years) and question marks on his athleticism. I would not put him down as a someone for our first pick in the MSD. As a Claremont supporter, I would hate the move but he would greatly improve the Eagles WAFL team.

Phil,

I have watched him over successive years at Claremont and I don't see an AFL footballer at this point in time, I see quite a good and handy WAFL football, BUT not AFL.
Agree that the lack of athleticism is a concern, as also is his conversion rate, as he is not the most reliable shot at goal.
However if we did take a punt with a second pick I wouldn't be totally against it as we all know tall's do take time and he has grown the last few years.

I would much prefer that we take a kid who missed the draft last November, such as Kobe Ryan who is playing seniors with West Adelaide and doing quite well.

With my Claremont bias hat well and truely on, I would like to see Sam Gilbey get onto our list as his broken leg last season couldn't have come at a worse time for his draft prospects, I don't have any information as to the medical status of the repair /recovery, that you would imagine will have a significant bearing on his chances.

Late Edit Note: Just read ATG's post ( posted as I was typing ) and concur with his thoughts.

Right now it looks like pick 1, then 20+ who could go from pick 2 to 10, then depending on club needs I would suggest another 40+ afl quality talents. I can see 80 players being taken in the main draft this year. Last year after pick 30 it was a real lottery and even then all players post pick 20 all had at least 1 major weakness.
From what I am hearing in both Melbourne and locally, this draft is beginning to look like the 2017 draft in depth (there were 78 players drafted in the ND) and a lot like 2018 in there being a very good top 10. It also has a load of everything within the first 2 rounds meaning there may well be more needs base when drafting. Having a stand out No. 1 can sometimes blinker views on the draft. Like Hall, there will be players that start to come from nowhere (hi Ginbey) and be added to the list of what already looks like a strong top 30. Case in point is Sam van Rooyen - if he keeps up his start to this season, he will garner a load of interest and not just from the Dees.

A very good number of KPF and general forwards in both 1st and 2nd rounds. So if there was a good year to hold 2 x R2 and R3 and to be finishing at the base of the ladder, we have timed this one well.

Jett Sibosado, is the best talent I’ve seen come through the junior ranks here in Broome, outstanding skills, athleticism and a top notch kid, hardworking, respectful currently playing off the half back for Scotch I believe. Part of the Dockers junior development, I’d love to see WC pull the trigger with a 3rd round pick before Freo.

You are overrating Sheldrick. Him not getting a game at Sydney has nothing to do with his maturity - it has everything to do with his ability
