Yeah but it's not going to happen, so what's to be gained by saying it? Especially on the back of some improvements, green shoots, a clear uptick in culture and buy in..
Yeah I mean a lot of the things he was being criticised for (game plan, not playing the youth & not allowing input from others) he has turned around. With his contract he's not going anywhere and I think he's going ok for now anyway.

I'm okay with Simpson.

A fresh coach would want immediate results.

And who's getting more out of this list with barely being able to field a team.
A new coach would want a full clean out of the list. Get the pain out the way early. And aim to be ticking up after year 3. They would not be looking for results in year 1. You don’t get a contract extension after one year. The decision is usually made in year 3. And they would want a media campaign blaming everything on the old management. Similar to how Essendon blamed everything on Worsfold after he left to give the new coach a clean slate. I don’t think Nisbett and co want a clean out nor would they comfortable blaming Simpson for everything.

But sheldrik has played a whole season of VFL against men ?

For a 19 year old he is holding his own .

I understand your hesitation but he was the best extractor is his draft year . Gave horne-Francis a bath 1 on 1 in the state champs .

Getting him back to West Coast with the lure of more game time for a lower pick is good business and exactly what we did with yeo and cripps
There is a huge gap in quality between the VFL and AFL.

A lot of teams have really shallow midfields, and rely on top ups.

I think the silence regarding McGovern and Cripps deals means they have already been signed. Those players managers would have been on the phone to the club on the Monday morning after the weekend when they were injured wanting pen put to paper. The intention would have been to put the kybosh on any thoughts anybody in the club had of putting those deals on ice or amending them to one year in light of the injuries.

And if the club had changed it’s position on those contracts there would be an epic amount of p***ing and moaning going on behind the scenes and the player managers would be leaking to the media and slagging the club off.

The total silence indicates to me that the players got what they wanted. The club knows it will be criticised for those contracts and they are waiting for a week after a win when all the supporters are seeing things in a glass half full way for a few days to slide the announcement out.

The effort is better, but he still isn’t utilising a lot of players correctly, the way he was using Chesser was horrific

Nothing against Simmo, just think it’s time for a refresh for 2024.

Agreed. Chesser should have been getting injured in the WAFL.

Simpson is protecting whoever comes next by seeing out his contract and in that respect he's protecting the club.

I think Simmo has finally shown he’s open to change and the playing style is looking fresh just need the best 22 on the park to really show it but there is only so long that these results can continue if we have another year with only 2 wins (I think we should win more) it will be time to move on and I think Corey Enright will be the most sort after coach after this season and he’d suit eagles very nicely

And D̶e̶v̶e̶n̶ ̶R̶o̶b̶e̶r̶t̶s̶o̶n̶ Riley Garcia gave Rowell and Anderson a bath in 2019.

Doesn't mean he can translate that game to AFL level.

Robertson set a National Championships disposal record in 2019. Beat Sam Walsh's record from the year before. Gave Serong and Flanders a bath, where Serong was moved from the midfield to small forward in the second half. Then beat Rowell heads up for the championship, and that was with doing his shoulder in the first half, and went for shoulder surgery a week later.

His main side kick through the midfield was bottom ager Nathan O'Driscoll.

Looking at the free agent list for 2025.

Naughton
Starcevich
Will Powell
Sam Taylor

2026 legit no Western Australian worth looking at.

Garcia and Warner were his main side kicks, it was those two that gave Rowell a bath that day. Warner ragdolled him a few times.
Dev put up big numbers, but didn't have huge impact.

His little brother kicked 5 on the weekend. Early days but looks good.

Hope he grows a few more cm's and sure otherwise we are going to be stuck with a tweener forward line. It's still so early in the season but he has pushed ahead of Curtin in the forward line so that is a big tick. However I definitely had a higher rating on JVR than his younger brother. Could be a different story by the end of the season.

Say he finishes the same height as his brother at 194cm and continues his development I would be happy drafting him with an early second rounder.

The only problem is all over the ground apart from Harry Edwards (no guarantee he makes the grade) our talls are looking quite short and or not great one on one (apart from Allen) Barnett is a heavy watch as I rate him highly but what made him such a good player in his draft year was his around the ground work and his skills for a big man. Will be interesting watching him develop as if given the opportunity I could see him playing a lot of positions at a very high level.

I would be staying in the ear of Samson Ryan as a potential trade next year and keeping a very close eye on him. The bounce will be gone, he is pretty decent as a forward and the right height and athletic profile for a future number 1 ruck. Also younger than Bailey Williams and less developed at this stage but a much higher ceiling imo.

With the news that Pickett is set to sign on at Melbourne for another 4 years, they have the following long term contracts on the books :

2030 - Oliver (will be 33)
2029 - Petracca (will be 33)
2028 - Brayshaw (will be 32)
2027 - Grundy (will be 33)
2027 - Pickett (will be 26)
2027 - Rivers (will be 26)
2026 - Salem (will be 31)
2026 - Fritsch (will be 30)

That’s 8 players with contracts beyond 2025 (we have 1 - Barrass to 2027) and all but two will expire after the player turns 30. They also have these

2025 - Gawn (will be 34)
2025 - May (will be 33)
2025 - Viney (will be 31)

Fair to say we aren’t the only club giving players long term deals into their thirties

Its different for Victorian team . With the small about of travel they do their older players hold up better . Ours fall off a cliff after 30 .

Watching Van Rooyen tonight it is hard not to feel like we have bungled our 2021 first rounder.

Early days. I would like to see a bigger sample size of evidence. But Chesser seems incredibly injury prone. And he looked like a deer in the headlights in the couple of games he has played. I would much rather have taken Van Rooyen based on what we have seen.
