Seems very doubtful.

Looks pretty comfortable at the Pies.

We'd prob overpay if we want him.

Dunno if we need?

On SM-S908E using BigFooty.com mobile app

He's getting a game due to all the talls out injured and doing OK.

Out of contract and will be chasing some security. Pies don't have alot of free cap space.

I'd take him over Georgiades ATM and again would likely only cost a 3rd rounder.

More of a forward than Petro will ever be.

I think the kids going to be a jet.

Can't see Collingwood letting him go and if they do, reckon it will be a 2nd rounder.

Totally different player to Petch TBF.

Comparable to Petro and also a year and a half older:

Taking the GF Teams last 10 years

2012 Swans Hawks
2013 Hawks Swans
2014 Hawks Freo
2015 Hawks Eagles
2016 Doggies Swans
2017 Tigers Crows
2018 Eagles Pies
2019 Tigers GWS
2020 Tigers Cats
2021 Dees Doggies
2022 Cats Swans

What has happened since:-

Swans last final 2022 GF - Rebuilt after 2016 and with favourable academy prospects, has been a fast turnaround. Probably made GF in 2023 ahead of time

Hawks last final 2018 - After the 3peat, tried trading to keep window open. O'Meara, Mitchell and Wingard now considered as failures. Trying to keep window open has delayed their rebuild but are fully onto it now.

Freo last played finals in 2022 after big gap - Were at the end of their window in 2015 with an old list and major injuries but did not address immediately. Restumped and reset and looked ready 2022 but have the wobbles in 2023. No luck yet in trade or draft on a KPF. Amiss might just be OK but a huge price for Jackson meaning a questionable future.

Doggies last played finals in 2022 - Won before their time in 2016 and have been strong since. Possibly slipping this year but have got key pillar talls at a discount. Good resources having sold Dunkley and more F/S coming in next 3 years.

Crows last played finals in 2017 - Went for the full rebuilt after 2018 and have been quietly building after some time low incl a wooden spoon in 2020

Tigers last played finals in 2022 - After 3 flags, they were thereabouts and made a hail Mary in 2022 with Hopper and Tarranto. Age and injuries now testing depth and look a shadow of themselves. Will their recent trades save them (Cats) or delay them (Hawks/Eagles)

Eagles last played finals in 2020 - Close but not desperate enough in 19/20/21 which are the wasted years. Got Kelly in 2019 but at a very high price and injuries showed up proximity to the cliff we now fell over. Supposedly club knew rebuild was on in 2021. Have been on the rebuild for 2 drafts and looking positive.

GWS last played finals in 2021 - they are in a very different place as an expansion club.

So spending time down the bottom is a likely thing (unless you have the Cat's lifestyle advantage)

Of my 5 top contenders this year, all bar Geelong have spent time at the bottom with Collingwood a bit different.
  • Pies - 17th in 2021 but have had great advantage of the FS and NGA in last 5 years
  • Demons - 3 x 17th in 2013/14/19 meant they had a very long time being uncompetitive (oh and PTS in 2019 after the Prelim of 2018)
  • Cats - they have a model of lifestyle choice for all Vic country prospects and there is a distinct cost of living and $$ difference
  • Lions - won spoon in 2017 having been 17th in 16 and 15. They have had the benefit of time to restock
  • Swans - were lowly in 2019 and 20 but have access to elite talent through the academy and FS
When you line that up with the recruitment/list teams, I hold Hines, Beatson, Wright, Taylor and Wells as some of the best. This shows when looking at how good they have been with later picks.

I like what the Pieman has done in the last 2 years (not so keen on the Chesser pick but we got Burgiel as a bonus with the slide). Where to now is up to who? Is the Pieman still the top dog?

Some peeps on here are too fixated with height/position.

You can have player A at 192cm and player B at 193cm.
Both generally forwards for example but have have completely different strengths and playing styles.
Ask ya Mrs whether that 1cm really matters or not..

He's basically another Waterman (smallish key forward). Not sure why he's being compared to Lecras or Petch or why we would want him.

A bit shorter than Waterman and a different forward, better jump and pack mark. He's a 3rd medium tall like Fritch at the Dee's / or Le cras as a medium 3rd tall.

And the reference to Petro was Johnson is more a natural foward than Petro will ever be.

So really not that hard to understand.

If you could do a straight swap Petro for Ash Johnson in our forward line we'd be better off.

Improving our list is why you'd be interested.

So today’s learnings are
  1. Cripps must now be placed on LTI list and we take a mid season pick
  2. Shuey is cooked so retires at end of the year along with Hurn (have we ever retired 2 captains at the same time?)
  3. List Management are on notice that Gov and Cripps need to be on low fixed $ contracts with majority on agreed incentives
  4. Our new S&C has found a way to override the MC by making our unfit veterans unavailable or to use club speak “TBC”

I’m not suggesting Shuey should, but with the news he’s reaggravated his hamstring you’d think he’d be close to considering mid season retirement

He’s been an absolute warrior for the club and the times he has played it’s obvious the value he adds but his legs just can’t cope anymore

Darren Glass retired whilst captain in 2014 when his body failed him, I wonder if Shuey is considering doing the same.

Maybe I am suggesting it after all

I’d be surprised if Hurn and Shuey stick around next year. If that’s the case, keeping a couple onboard doesn’t hurt.

Meanwhile, another kid who we might be considering in the mid season draft …

Yeah, I noticed him in the EP game - is really quick and dangerous. I would be very happy if we picked him up. I love indigenous talent too - in tandem with Flying Ryan would be something to see.

I thought the same. Would he try to limp on to 250 games? It's frustrating that he's not yet 33 and looks done but that seems to be the lot of West Australian-based midfielders.

I would be OK with Shuey retiring now as his body has let him down.

He will go down as "chingey" and delivering one of the all time Norm Smith performances et he will also be known as being the worst captain I can recall.

3 big issues under his leadership.

Firstly he was unable to get on and stay on the park. Assuming he doesn't get to play many more games this year, he would of gone close to only playing 50% of the games when he was captain.

Secondly he was the captain when the players went into quarantine and then sooked it up in the hub. I am sure it was tough but other clubs found a way but we went soft.

Standards slipped under his watch. Leaders should both lead by example and also getting around their team.

And yes the Covid years were hard. Truly great leaders show their true colours in harsh and trying conditions.

If Shuey retires now, we get a chance to celebrate a club great in the middle of 2023 and then rinse and repeat with Hurn at year end.

I agree on Shuey retiring now. It doesnt look like he will be able to get through more than 2 games in a row. Whether that's due to his body letting him down or the club being too cautious with his availability. He definitely cant go on next year. Sacrifice himself so the club can recruit another player.

Considering after the GWS game shuey said he wanted to play on for as long as he can I doubt he will go without a push

Retire -
Hurn
Shuey
Naitanui

Delist -
O’Neill
Foley

Retain -
Cripps (1 Year)
McGovern (1 Year - but he’ll want 2)
SPS
Waterman
Culley

In the Gun -
Clark
West
Petrucelle
Witherden (closest to being retained I think)
J.Williams

So 5 right away with another 5 in the gun.

Reality probably sees it land around 8-10 with maybe a wantaway.

5-6 in the draft plus maybe a free agent and a trade?

I’d keep Williams purely cause we need a proper KPF. Last season he shouwed promise in spurts but WAFL set up hurt him too and obsviously he has missed games so far too
