What are your thoughts on Riley Wills from Subi? Haven’t seen his name mentioned much. I’ve seen very little of him but liked his game v WP & looks as though he’s had another good game on the weekend (stats wise, at least).

Been told Collard on talent is a top 10 but lacking maturity, someone will definitely have a crack before 40 due to lack of depth in the draft, so no chance he lasts to us.

Eagles should look at taking him with our second if we really want him or ask the AFL to be able to match at/past 20 instead.
No club is touching it for more then just lacking maturity reasons.

He didnt even want to leave W.A to play in the state carnival... never mind to live and play AFL itself.

So his a real long term development prospect. Yep 100% do not want for pick 19. His maturity issues are a concern even for us.

Has to be a later pick. Too much risk for our 2nd rnd pick

Overager, not a real standout. Wouldn't think he's any chance of being drafted tbh.

The thing with Collard is his another small forward which we have plenty of especially if we are adding in Brockman.
Liam Ryan, Cripps, Long, Pectecelle, Brockman, could even throw Maric and Culley in that position aswell and who knows what's happening with Sam P Seton. Is he getting delisted or going around again.

If we use pick 19 are we going with our list needs or just hype of a player in a position we have a lot of.
If his that good I'd like us to keep pick 19 on list requirements and try to obtain Collard by possibly trading in another 2nd 3rd rnder either by using future second pick or working something out to obtain one. Two good games in the WAFL isn't going to cut it.
I want to see a lot more to give up pick 19 on him. Opponents here looked like very average players if we are being honest. This is a b grade game even for WAFL standards. Feels like I was watching a lower suburban country league here.

List needs
HIGH Priority- Midfielders
HIGH Priority- Backup ruck.

MEDIUM Priority-Key position forward or third tall forward
MEDIUM Priority-half back flankers since Hurns retired we have a hole if we get a few injuries.
Medium Priority- Key Back if Gov and Barrass go down we are left with Bazzo and Edwards who seem to be in no man's land at the moment.

I'd have Small Forwards as a low Priority at the moment. Probably the least needed position for us.
He looks good though. Small build so would take a few years to develop at AFL level but is super quick. Bit of Lewis Jetta vibes. He probally move from wing to small forward. And bit of taunting around the 2 minute mark haha. That kind of taunting would really piss a lot of people off lol. Especially opposition he'd get some unwanted attention for that for sure.

Backup ruck is a medium/low priority for now.

We have B Williams, then CJ and Barnett if injuries happen. JWilliams if we are really stuck.

None of the understudies are ready and/or talented enough to be a #1 ruck full time in a contending team, but we are not and will not be contending next year (and more than likely for a season or two after that).

Why should we rush to spend a 2nd round pick (approximately the going rate) on a ‘keep us competitive’ player when for the most part we will not be competitive with top teams anyway?

If one is available free/cheap (PSD, FA, SSP or junk trade) absolutely, but I don’t think we should be overly disappointed if we miss out on the ruck merry go round this year!

Wow, I'm interested that you don't see him as a standout. Every Subi game I've watched that he's played in he has torn to shreds, it's probably out of him and Collard for the fastest player in the WAFL and then you chuck in Will's strength and explosiveness he's a real weapon. Personally I have him as a sneaky chance to end up on a list. Missed last year with a back injury and exploded this year.

His stats speak for themself, averages 25 and a goal for the year.

Wills I like as I am always impressed by midfielders that regularly hit the scoreboard as they are a rare commodity.
He is a prolific ball winner and goal kicker so not much to not like about him.

As to why he hasn’t been mentioned much, probably some group think and the drafting fraternity on BF is rather insular and if your not Victorian you don’t get sunshine blown up your arse as far as being a talent.

Trouble with this draft is that I am not sure that too many will get a call up, I suspect that the number of kids drafted will be low this year.

Hmm, not sure we need this at this stage of the rebuild and with such a high pick.

A higher picked Jarrod Cameron would be a disaster.

With ball in hand Watson was as incisive and damaging as ever, but he has been struggling a little to find the footy and hit the scoreboard in recent weeks. With his Ranges team progressing through to the prelim final, he'll have another chance to remind everyone of his elite talent this weekend.

Sydney seem to always just go and get a new ruck from other clubs when they need one.

Hi Riley :) All the best with with your AFL career and well done "tearing things to shreds" and congrats on your explosive pace :p

I have spoken to Lance Collard a few times and he is one of the quietest players you will ever meet.
Hardly speaks to his team mates is very much a introvert
I think he would really struggle interstate, and i believe interviewing interstate clubs would come away thinking the same thing
That's why i believe he will slide into the 40's unless Freo go for him

it feels like Collard's cream….you need a bit more cake before that
He will take time definitely, he is the type that would probably debut in his third year on the list
He is very skinny and doesn't hit the weight room, so that will be a learning curve for him.
I see him as small forward progressing to a wingman eventually
Getting him to feel comfortable and belonging will be half the battle.
Getting him out of his shell and learning to be a professional if whoever gets him to do that
they will have a very elite talent

So that is simple - Freo / West Coast agree not to bid on Collard / Edwards. Both of which have major question marks over them and will put off interstate interest. Time to work the system to our advantage.

I know a club from Vic has a WA employee who has spent time with him. Lack of depth will see someone take a crack before 40.

Witho with a 1 year extension.

West Coast are set to reward rebounding defender Alex Witherden for a career-best season at the Eagles with a one-year contract extension.

Witherden, 25, is on the verge of re-signing with the wooden spooners after finishing eighth in the John Worsfold Medal count earlier this month.

Traded from Brisbane at the end of 2020, Witherden played 22 out of a possible 23 games for West Coast this season, averaging 20 disposals and six rebounds.

He has played 44 games since joining West Coast - adding to the 59 that he played at Brisbane after being drafted with pick No.23 in the 2016 draft.

Witherden joins forward Jai Culley in extending his stay with a one-year deal after The West Australian revealed earlier this month he was on the verge of signing a new contract.

It comes as the Eagles prepare to overhaul their list as they continue the toughest rebuild in their history.

Defender Luke Foley is so far the only Eagle to be officially delisted by the club, but several media outlets including The West Australian have reported Isiah Winder has been told he won’t be offered a new contract going forward.

It leaves five spots on the Eagles list already ahead of next season after the retirements of Luke Shuey, Nic Naitanui and Shannon Hurn.

Several key Eagles remain unsigned in forward Jake Waterman, Samo Petrevski-Seton, Xavier O’Neill, Connor West, Greg Clark and Zane Trew.

The Eagles already have a strong draft hand with the prized No.1 pick – set to be used on Victorian teenage star Harley Reid – as well as picks 19, 35, 38, 54, 57 and 75.

West Coast has also been linked to Hawthorn forward Tyler Brockman, who wants to return home for personal reasons, as well as Brisbane midfielder Deven Robertson – who is the nephew of former Eagles captain Darren Glass.

It doesn’t actually, because we were one over the maximum list size due to making Culley inactive and drafting Maric

Hahaha fair play, it was a big rap for Wills. Just strange that the comp b&f wasn't a standout.

He's a very long shot as a rookie. Got invited to state combine and if he tests exceptionally might get on a list. Whilst I understand the back injury last year the truth is if a player is a standout at colts they are going to get reserves games or even games in the seniors particularly in the weaker sides.

He gets plenty of the ball, has speed, is a good tackler and gets on the scoreboard. It is however a very weak year for midfield prospects and the WAFL colts is probably at best the weakest development comp to be playing in this year.

He's not in my top 50 and to get drafted this year you probably need to be on some clubs radar in at least their top 30. Which may happen as I think clubs are going to have very varied perspectives on where the talent lies and what their needs are.

I personally see a lot more depth in draftable talls this year and my rankings are probably skewed towards that. (My rankings won't settle until i've done or watched all the club interviews we're doing this year and after the combine)
