Doesn't seem like we will be moving up. I reckon Dockers will trade their pick to Geelong and Geelong will use it to draft a ruck before the Roos do. Dockers will still probably get 1 of Goater or Johnson and receive something in return. Annoying as

Geelong, Hawks and Tigers all offer Freo a short move back. We all know Bell is a **** - who will he be pluming today?

Fair likelihood we won’t see Chesser in WA before next year

Even assuming he gets the all clear to jump on a plane tomorrow he’d still have to do 2 weeks quarantine which would finish around 10/12. Gives him only a week or so before the squad would be due to breakup for Christmas and he returns home

Then back in the new year and another 2 weeks quarantine

It may be better to set up a training program for him to do in Victoria rather than coming here and sitting in a hotel

We were not the only ones that reached for players that were tipped to go later.

GWS with Leek Aller and ditto Kai Lohman the Lions picked up & Swans with Sheldrick. Most tipped to be late second rounders to early 3rd rounders.
It leaves some good midfielders on the board having those players taken early

The Pieman will have him running errands around the Bayside pie shops over the Christmas period so all is fine and dandy. Probably gives the ROB a reason to go for more of his Vic runners so they can do it by relay and train together.

I think that is what other clubs are doing for their WA players who are currently in WA (letting them have Xmas then go over).

Almost certain to be the outcome

Nah, need to get him over asap and into a guernsey that fits him. Poor kid is the laughing stock of the draft!

I'm all for a board meme, but honestly the 'Pieman' stuff is tiring and just not very funny.

(right up there with posting Gee on anything to do with Venables and putting Jack Watts as a pole option as embarrassing crap just clogging up threads)

But actually.

The West this morning read that Chesser not in Perth until after Christmas .

I think if there’s one thing we know about the recruitment team - once they decide on who they want, they will not fu** around, they will do whatever is needed to ensure they get that player. Whether it’s trading or drafting.
like being short sighted with one player in mind and overlooking others in the process (see Sheed and P.Cripps as an example)

If you go back in time to November 2013 Cripps wasn’t seen as a potential top-10 pick and was a bit of a bolter when Carlton got him at 13.

The angst at the time was that we’d traded out of the top 10 because we’d locked in on Sheed, and cost ourselves the chance to draft Aish or Scharenberg.

To get the guy we overlooked yesterday with this years first rounder?
No chance we're doing that
I don't think we see MJ as warranting trading out of the first round of next year, even if it's to the 20's. Next year's first on it's own would be enough to land 21 today and a future second - but I still wouldn't do it.
Taking Chesser over MJ doesn't mean we didn't/don't rate Johnson, it just means we rated Chesser higher.

We’ll 100% take Clark with one of our next two picks IMO. It would follow a pattern with recent drafts.
Would be a reach. Should be able to find a similar mature age player with our last live pick.

Ignoring Clark for multiple years then have him snub us and not nominate for this years mid season draft so we didn't get a free swing at him at the age of 24...

Only for us to reach for him in the national draft with actual picks of value would be peak Eagles.

I sincerely hope that does not happen. Last pick only please. If we miss him, big deal. Get Rogers instead.

It's not like he's a special talent. He's state football quality midfield depth. Add him sure, but not with one of our second round picks.

Jesus, that'd be a disaster.
