English AND Bruhn for one mid top 10 pick would be a win, i doubt we'd even get English on his own for that tbh (which is why I'm not interested in going for him)

Still yet (after an embarrasingly long time visiting this site) to see any actual evidence that so called "insiders" on here have any genuine inside info

More than happy to be proved wrong
You mean you don't just Goeagles inside info???

But there is always the opportunity of making say pick 6 - picks 12 & 15

Someone here announced Yeo's OP 2 or 3 rounds before it was made public.

Ryan Daniels used to post here until his early week calls on team omissions were so accurate that everyone worked out who it was.

There's still debate on whether smothered06 was actually Daniel Chick, but the Grammar was definitely on point (I think it was him).

The Daniel Chick one seemed spot on.

Other than that there's occasionally a bit of inside news that is accurate, no doubting that. Someone's always a friend of friend that hears something. I've had a few myself, Perths a small town.

Haven't heard the Ryan Daniels one, what was his account?

I'm disputing that an actual club "insider" is posting on here. Haven't seen any proof personally other than extremely vague references that anyone with a keen interest could spurt out

Like I said, happy to be proved wrong about that

Theoretically yes but I'll play devils advocate.
1) someone like him is likely to fast track you to contention given 25-32 is generally the peak of a players span
2) the longer someone is away from home, the greater the chance of them setting up roots.
3) the old saying comes into play "take opportunities when they arise, they may never come again"

Thanks for bringing a bit of perspective on this Bond. :thumbsu:

What most on here dont get is your 3rd point. When an opportiunity arises you dont turn your back on a quality player who wants to come and play for us. All the guesses and wishes we all post here mean absolutely nothing unless that player is interested in coming. These opportunities present rarely.

You posted later would you be happy with English and Brahn for pick 6. That would be outstanding if it occurred imo. Been mentioning Brahn for some time as a potential target given where he grew up and the tough midfield he is trying to break into. And oh it would be SO sweet to snatch him from Geelongs clutches as they too are keen.

Two quality young players in positions of need that are plug and play round 1 2023.

Also leaves us the two 2nd rounders to use to trade up to get that 1st rounder we need to use. Would prefer to use one 22 2nd and a future 2nd.

Dream trade and draft period.

Pick 6 ish split for English and Brahn. (Feel our pick will be 3-4)

Ports 2nd say 25 (if higher than ours) plus a 3rd for Lions pick 17. May need to use a future 2nd or add a later pick to the 3rd for points Lions need.

Go to the draft with pick 17 our 2nd pick 24. Best available at those picks.

The draft backers wont like it but its a smart strategy. People get overly excited about the unknown / unproven shinny new player. But 4 x 18 years olds, especially rucks, will take years to impact. And as we all know this club doesnt spend 10 years rebuilding and not playing finals.

I hope that watching the rest of the season and the likes of Naish, Clark, L Edwards and others show you dont need top 10 picks to land decent mids. And the cupboard isnt as bare as many feel.

The way some people overvalue draft picks in here blows my mind. If we could split a top 6ish pick and use them for English and Bruhn you’d do it every day of the week. How many top draft picks in recent years would you honestly take over that deal? I can only think of Walsh, Naughton or the King boys.

Unless we’ve got generational talent staring us in the face you’re better off doing the trades

But we're constantly told we don't have any good young midfielders because we haven't had any high draft picks, then the first time for ages that we do potentially get a high draft pick we look at trading it away.

Bruhn is a good young midfielder

Go through the last 10 years worth of drafts and count how many top 10 picks you’d have over English and Bruhn. Give me the trades every day of the week.

Just look at Fremantle and their bounty of top 10 picks - Logue, Brayshaw, Cerra, Serong, Young, Henry - I’d have Bruhn and English over all of them

True, but we are also better off assessing our list and the market as a whole.

We have a relatively tight salary cap (now that JD is back), and that will change over the next 2-3 years.

We lack high end young talent (we've done well with what we have had, but our development mids are very thin on the ground)

The FA pool is pretty average this year (but potentially much better next year).

Ideally we work with potential 2023 free agents and try to get one that way. It may be as simple as English signing a 1 year contract (that seems unlikely), or looking at what else is around. In the right age bracket and positions (ruck and mid, 28yo or younger) 2 x free agents would significantly speed up our rebuild time.

Star midfielders at 18s level can plateau earlier , just saying careful what you wish for although Hewitt looks a standout , his progress at WAFL level should be good and SD will be good ....Darcy Jones also from SD what a game he played in 2021 Colts GF .

Plenty of talented players to pick from ...
