Why not play McGovern forward. Him, Allen & Darling would be a danger to opposition backlines with their marking abilities & all are reasonable kicks.

Get the mids to kick to an opposition defender and have McGovern intercept.
Coleman medal would be on the cards with such advanced tactics.

ROYAL EAGLE noticed you mentioned on Bangers draft thread that we have strong interest in Wardlaw, don't rate Ashcroft and likely have Sheezel just ahead of Hewett. Any chance you could expand on that or any of our other interest? How confident are you?
In any case, this is a good position to be in.

Either get Warlord, or Hawks trade up to get Cheezles and we pick up Hewett and a nice sweetener draft pick.

Win win.

Sheezel screams flight risk. Even with our good player retention rate compared to other clubs is it worth the risk.

I'm not so sure about that. I understand there might be concerns around his background/religion influencing his decision to stick-it-out interstate if he was drafted there, but has he actually said anything (of have the media suggested anything) to say that he's not happy to relocate?

The way he has been playing it may well be worth the risk. He's clearly on the next line behind Ashcroft and Wardlaw - and possibly in the conversation with those 2 at the top end of the draft.

Haven’t done the maths etc but could we trade down and grab a second rounder next year as well - a bit like the Chesser and Port deal last year.

Depending on how things fall we could end up with extra second rounders in 2023.

If we disregard the go home factor, which of Hewett and Sheezel is the better player or suits our needs better

From what I’ve read from our draft people here, Hewett as a more pure midfielder may just be a better fit anyway

Realistically if all the pieces fall the right way I would want the club trading live pick 2 for live pick 4 and hawks future second. Grab Hewett.

Anyone thinking that McGovern or Darling are being traded out of Perth are beyond delusional.

Also read earlier in the thread with Knightmare's rankings. Don't rate his list at in regards to draft positioning. He just has Cadman and Jefferson there as they have beat up on shithouse key defenders at U18 level. He forgets that regularly both of them are well below average for an AFL key forward kicking for goal and they are both on the smaller side moving forwards. Cadman in particular is a 50/50 shot on goal at best. Jefferson only a touch better.

He got a job at ESPN as a writer because of years of his writing on here but I don't rate his ranking of players however am happy that he ranks players differently to other more traditional journalist types.

If you disregard the go home factor and Sheezel does well in the midfield after champs then he's the man. Pure talent levels are a level above.
If you want the best balanced midfielder available then Hewett is an easy pick.

Next year even say we have a decent year and finish say 12th or a touch higher the player we pick will likely have similar levels of talent to whats available in this years draft with our first.

Looking to the future it's our 2024 and 2025 seasons which I think will be the true bottom out points for the club so lets hope for real high quality drafts in those years.

I think so too. I think Sheezel will be a star and more likely to be a star, but we need an elite contested beast and the really good ones are hard to find. Hewitt might be the one.

The sliding you mention is exactly what I’m looking at - I don’t see a lot of value in accumulating second rounders, beyond what we’ve already got, this year.

More interested in accumulating second rounders in 2023.

If cards fall the right way should even slide twice and grab two second rounders (two different clubs) for 2023.

Really depends on how we assess both pools and who we want in 2022 and 2023. List managers need to be earning their $ at the moment.

Gov and Darling - agree with you.

Cannot reduce team to skeleton. Transition players out sure, but don’t throw baby out with bath water.

heck me it's going to get worse than 2 wins and a historically low percentage that's 23.4% BELOW the 16th best team?

Shoot me now.

We’ll be playing finals 2024/25, not bottoming out. We don’t do extended rebuilds and 5 years of not playing finals. At the risk of sounding even more stupid than my Lobb suggestion, reckon we’re a sneaky chance next year with everyone back and some youthful enthusiasm from Chesser, Cully, this years top picks, and Allen who won’t play a game this year. Throw in a fit Yeo and Sheed, hopefully Nic, Rioli and Ryan, and we’re nowhere near the bottom again.

Hewett looks good ....no go-home factor also is a big bonus ..

Darcy Jones though crickey at a later pick because of lack of size ,,,,could be the pick of the draft IF he fills out .....big IF .

we're just waiting to draft in a KPF with a top 10 pick over the next 3 seasons to transition in as Darling transitions out.
Did you know that statistically speaking, you need a top 4 pick for a guaranteed KPF?

Much less chance of success with picks 5 to 10!!!!!

Statistically speaking though, pick 1/2 is an utter failure for KPFs.

Pick 4/5 is where it's at.

Why wait till he gets older?

He is older next season. How many years does Gov have left? 2 or 3? Happy to see it happen.

That is the issue, we do have options even without Darling and JK.

Oscar, Gov, resting ruck / Waterman is tall enough.

I did like the glimpse of Barrass forward, he is IMO a better contested verticle mark. Not sure on kicking accuracy though.

Plus a list of up and comers. B Williams, J Williams, Jamison, Dixon and Bazzo was mentioned.

And with a ruck to add come draft / trade time.
