Potentially stupid post warning for anyone easily triggered....

Heard Tom Browne (I know) tonight suggesting Brodie Grundy is as good as gone from Collingwood.

Would we consider him, on the proviso that Gaff is part of the package we sent back (assuming Gaff is actually happy to leave).

Grundy is 28, with another 5 years @ $1m per season (and I've previously said not to pay massive amounts for a ruckman, so completely contradicting myself... possibly even talking myself out of it).

Contract $ similar (Grundy probably on an extra $200k). Contract length 5 years (Gaff has 2 left). Both 28. Small possibility Collingwood would throw in a pick for the salary dump.

I think all the talk around Grundy is that he wants to go back to SA..

If this years draft is as poor as a couple on here are suggesting, the argument to trade out our pick 2 is increasingly attractive, especially if we can strengthen our 2023 draft hand.

If Nth receive a mid-1st Rd compo pick, trading our pick 2 for their compo (~10) + future first might have a big pay off.

Nth get picks 1+2 this year, allows them to draft Busslinger + best mid.

We get pick 10 this year, which will net us a serviceable talent, and a good chance to go to the draft in 2023 with two top 5 picks.
It’s not the top end that’s poor, it’s the depth. The top 15 are ok, but it really starts to drop off after that. And there’s a couple of players with top end talent and skills who have had a poor year.

Rioli can do things no other player on our list can do. He has moments of magic that lift our team.

For me, I absolutely do not want to trade him, unless a godfather offer comes along (like a top-10 pick, which it won’t).

I agree he hasn’t produced what I hoped he would this year, but he’s been out of the game for two years. Give him another pre-season, and an injury-free run, and I think we’ll see him back to his best next season.
1/ Weed isnt like cigarettes
2/ its not going to be legal anytime soon
3/ regardless at the time it was illegal
4/ he had two years to get himself fit but spent it trying move weed on a plane and no doubt partaking in it still himself
5/ if he couldn’t ( and the rest of the team) couldn’t motivate themselves to get fit then they have no place in the afl.
6/ he will still be fat when he returns next pre season

Up until his suspension Rioli was my favourite player but since then its been all excuses and cover ups..
Smith cant be compared as they were caught under different circumstances … in my opinion both should be sacked but Smith at 21 can at least play the youth card while Rioli 24 cant.
Why don’t you come off the long run next time.

Why do you guys overreact over one game, talking about one Elijah Hewitt?

Wasn't he best afield against Vic metro and ashcroft just two weeks ago?

He would be our most explosive player right now, maybe behind Yeo. I reckon we take him, probably 5-7 range so maybe trade down and get Crows second round pick

I loved his game vs Vic Metro, had all the hall marks of a great player: Explosiveness, aggression, leadership and wanting to take on the big moments.
My only concern post that game and from a few others I've seen him play is his kicking can let him down. It made me awkward on taking him at pick 2 as ideally here you're getting a player with all thos attributes.
His game on the weekend was awful, he barely touched it or got into the game. I'm not going to write him off as I'm a big fan but it's making me very hesitant on taking him at pick 2.

To answer your previous question about Sheezel and his 37 disposals. I've seen him play midfield and it was glorious, it's everything you want in a draftee. It had a nice mix of contested and uncontested, plenty of hurt factor by foot and hand, with added bonus of goals. He'll play straight away as a forward and add xfactor and class, maybe work his way up to small cameos at centre bounces but eventually build his strength and tank to play midfield.
Even if he's a flight risk, he's my pick unless Wardlaw comes hard towards season end. Wardlaw also has the Norf factor as already being taken.
Phillipou is my smokey, want to see more of him in the midfield but has showed some very pleasing things.
If all fails, Busslinger is elite and you take him.

The only time i've seen him play midfield was in the 1 nab league game against the weakest team in the league. It was like the 07 grand final geelong playing the beagles.

It's why I desperately want to see a lot more of Sheezel in the middle.
We also desperately need to see Philippou playing midfield preferably at SANFL league level as well and seeing what happens.

There is so much still to come in regards to working out the rankings.

It's probably too early to be talking about next year's draft but there's one South Australian kid called Ashton Moir who's giving me huge Buddy Franklin vibes.

With a big preseason rioli could be our best mid next year.from memory before his suspension he was covering the second most amount of ground behind gaff.mightve even been in front of gaff
He's the most creative player on our list and one of the toughest
Just needs to keep his natural aggression in check

Very interesting point - our coaches should be judged on their ability to make this happen (ie coach, mentor, lead, develop - Willie like most young blokes needs all of this)

Well it’s the fact that he was basically unsighted against a group of guys the same age. We’ve got enough passengers.
Add in the fact that he was poor at league level this year makes me think he won’t be ready to provide a spark we need next year.
Wardlaw all the way for mine.
And he was best afield the week before, a 17yo who is inconsistent, who wouldve thought.
I'm hoping he can string some really good games together in the back half of the year, either that or go into hiding and we get him with our second

Noble is gone.

Be interesting if another coach can give them some freedom to win a game or two.
Hopefully Norf don’t win too many.

I’d very much prefer not to win the spoon and consequently get pick one.

If we can continue to expose the youngsters, work on a new game plan, and win a couple of games, while still getting pick 2, I’d be pretty happy all things considered.

I think we can bounce back in 2023 with some tough list management decisions and a strong preseason and enter 2023 with very few injuries.

Some unpopular decisions I think need to be made

Gaff trade 2nd or 3rd round if we get a pick between 35-45 hopefully find a gem.
Reddan retire. Served as well but too slow in the midfield.
Langdon would have delisted but has a year left on contact. Delist and pay out.
JK and hurn retire. Great servants but time to move on
Winder delist maybe rookie
Nelson delist
Petch trade 3rd/4th rounder
Dixon delist thanks for your help
Naish delist thanks for your help
Witherden delist very poor ball use.
Joyce delist thanks for your help.

Put all your energy into getting liam
Baker.

My starting 22 round one 2023

FB Bazzo barrass duggan
HB yeo McGovern JJ
C Sheed Kelly Hough
HF waterman Allen Rioli
FF Ryan Darling Cripps
R NN Shuey Baker
B Luke Edwards chesser culley first round pick

The team looks refreshed and has a good amount of under 23s with Allen, luke Edwards chesser, culley, Hough, Bazzo culley and our first rounder.

Cripps and shuey go on, could be their last year in 2023. Can’t retire off everyone at once. Staggered approach here.

If this year's crop is not the best and Sheezel is the best prospect, if he turns out well, perhaps convincing him to be an Eagle for life or trading him for a lot of good picks later is the best scenario.

If Sheezel if the best i hope we take him. Surely we can back in keep him here and worst case we trade him for picks when his contract is up.

If Eagles do a risk assessment and think that he'll give 100%, regardless of whether he stays or goes past his first contract, I agree.

But there is the risk that he struggles from early on, his performances are a shadow of what you would expect from a pick 2, and his value at trade time is peanuts. Especially with the threat of 10 Vic clubs who could pinch him through the preseason draft.

Yeah it was a weaker side, but it was more that he did everything I wanted him to do - didn't shirk the contest and just play outside game, demonstrated he knew how to play midfield at an elite standard, high footy IQ, quick hands in tight, evasive to get from inside to outside to use his skill and spread from stoppage was very good.
He did back it up the week after too, with 33 and 3.2 so wasn't just a once off. Although again was the jets so not the strongest team.
Love to see him play midfield at the champs, but can't see it with MacKenzie and Ashcroft going so well and Wardlaw & Tsatas to come back. Hopefully the rest Ashcroft forward, as he's done enough to give Sheezel a run in there.

If he puts in 1 performance in the midfield against a strong side I would be happy to pick him with pick 2 even with all the risks. Worst case scenario is we are likely dealing with hawks for 2 first round picks for him.
