If he puts in 1 performance in the midfield against a strong side I would be happy to pick him with pick 2 even with all the risks. Worst case scenario is we are likely dealing with hawks for 2 first round picks for him.

Yeah, that's my worst case scenario we trade to the hawks for 2 x first rounders.
My worst case would be dealing with Dodoro!

Well the flip side to that is, if we are dealing with the Dodo Bird then he is buying and its a sellers market and we get good value for a trrade.

If he try's getting cute then it's no deal.......... and it's:handpointup:you to :essendon:.

Not convinced North will take Wardlaw. They already have LDU, Simpkin, Greenwood, Phillips, JHF, Cunnington, Anderson, Powell as inside midfielders why would they take another one? I think they're more likely to go for Sheezel or Busslinger.

Agree.

I am liking this

Purely on points, we give up 2 and Port's R2 currently 25 for 5 and Hawks 2023 R1 lets call it 10. I would also do it for our pick 20 instead of Port's R2. I have a feeling that Hawks will be viewing their 2023 R1 as a single digit pick.

Of course, that may all change if Crows lure JHF home. They would need to give up their R1 and probably their R1 next year but get JHF and a Norf R2 in 2023. That scenario would leave Norf with 1, 4 and 19 (end of R1 priority pick) plus 2 x R1 in 2023 but no R2. Norf can get both Wardlaw or Sheezel at 1 and Busslinger at 4 plus best available at 19.

What we want to see is eagerness in at least 2 clubs to jump up for both or at least one of Busslinger and Sheezel. Don't discount he Dons coming with an offer. It will be more of what Hawks might be doing ahead of them if we sell to them as against who we take. We need to be indiscrete with our discussions with the Hawks/Dons

I think Tsatas star is slipping. His absence will be nearly 3 years where he has missed out of most of the season.

Even in say that north scenario there. North may well be wanting to upgrade pick 4. We may even be able to trade pick 2 and 21 (adjusted for end of first round priority) for 4 and North's future first.

North go this is the year we go in hard for what we want and take pick 1,2,19,21 to the draft. New coach, chance to mould the list with a group of youngsters with his input and would potentially sell a lot of hope to members etc. They take who they consider to be the top 2 talents and then go shopping for talls at 19/21 etc.

**** if they want gaff and we pay half his salary as steak knives then go for it. I see 2 picks likely between 3-8 next year as having huge value to the club.

North if they continue their shitness will likely then likely get another priority pick next year anyway.

Pretty much sums up how I always feel to Essendon, and their vile supporters.

Don’t like the idea of getting a player with such a crucial pick who is a good chance to leave.

It is correct to say that we should be able to get good compensation if he leaves but it effectively puts the rebuild/transition back two years. It’s a waste of development capital to put it into someone who is going to leave. It may happen that a player leaves but it’s not the best option and should be avoided if possible. I don’t think I would be going near Sheezel if what we have heard is true even if he is the best player.
So you don't think the club has any hope at all to change their mind about playing outside of Melbourne and encourage them to stay long term?
For the most part we've been pretty good at retaining interstate players.

True but this is the club that went Phillips over McDonald!

So basically Snake Baker (I think it’s the poster I have in mind) and Norf will be happy to unite Gaff and Polec as their 2 wingers

I find it a bit ridiculous that we'll finish 2nd last yet we could have effectively pick 4 in the draft with three better players picked before us.

I think North will get a priority pick but I don’t think it’ll be pick 2

More likely to be end of first round which I think is justifiable, perhaps even middle of first round at a stretch

Rewarding incompetent management with pick 2 sets a really poor precedent. I know Gold Coast got pick 2 but their problems went further than simply bad management because player retention was also an issue

And the AFL are less invested in North surviving than the Suns

I think he's suggesting North, Brisbane bid and opting not to select Sheezle because of go-home factor means effectively pick 4.

No I do think North will get pick 1 as a PP.

24 isn't young. If you have no idea of what's right and wrong at 24 and can assess the pros/cons of what you are doing then you have issues.
Actually, it's very common for the pre-frontal cortex (associated with judgement, planning, impulse control etc.) to not be fully developed by one's mid-20s.

I think it's working on the assumption that JHF was to go. But you are right if they keep JHF I see them not drafting Wardlaw. Then we really are likely bound for godfather like offers.
With the 2nd pick the West Coast Eagles select Jedd Busslinger.

FFS. Busslinger will slide now. Won't slide far but will likely slide far enough to not be in the equation for any downtrades or similar helping us. Even with the injury I see no way he drops below GC pick.

I think he's done enough to prove himself so won't change. There are no real KPFs in this draft, so if someone like North want to go tall (through need) then he's still a chance. I think if North get a front end PP then it will be Sheezel and Bussy. If they don't, I think they will go Sheezel because he offers something different to LDU and JHF.

LDU, JHF, and Warlord are pretty close to the same player.

I have WB finishing with pick 8 and GC finishing with pick 10, in that scenario he doesn't get passed 8. Although like Chumpy said above I don't see him sliding much, if at all.

He’s certainly done enough to prove he’s a top prospect.

I assume Gunslinger is doing the surgery now to ensure he’s good to go for pre season.

He may slide, but not far.

Still hope we can get Warlord, Cheezles or even Philipou.

I don't have a lot of contact with the SA followers or scouts but am going to try and get more vision of Philippou as I really want to see how he's playing in the SANFL.

There's still so much to go on for the rest of the season. The final champs game will likely have a big effect on player rankings as it's just before the grand final.
