I am happy with the concept of Chesser but he has yet to play. All the buzz pre-season was that we had a winner. That makes it almost no football in 3 years. So there is hope but without proof, it is still a potential dream.

I thought the Pieman had reduced his mode of picking sliders who have an injury concern, at least with early picks. Venables was the last one I was worried about and to be fair, he came good. The selection of Joyce was an absolute classic this year.

Now the Pieman choosing Culley was out of character. Good move but out of character.

Joyce :straining: I forgot he was even on the list.

Unhappy with Chesser I take it?

Speaking of Chesser.

How has his foot / ankle healed?

And if I may, what are your thoughts on our strength and conditioning team.
We do seem to have sustained an inordinate number of soft tissue and leg injuries the past few years.
Also we seem to have had a team, the last three seasons, that struggle to run out a full game.
The team IMO seem way of the pace fitness wise in comparison to the rest of the competition.

And don't forget Miguel's friends in the media/communication team.

Keen to know if there's one department at the Eagles happy with their own performance over the last few years.

It's very easy looking in the rear vision. Chesser was actually my choice over the others floated although I have a soft spot for Matty Johnson. To be fair, unless u picked a SA or WA kid, then a couple years off footy was pretty standard.
WC lacks leg speed & he offers that along with foot skills. And a beaut kid to boot.
Joyce was a late pick - hard to call that a mistake.

What about Luke Edwards?
Contracted until 2024. Signed a deal in December last year

“West Coast has also re-signed young midfielder Luke Edwards.

The second-year Eagle has inked a new two-year deal. The 19-year-old is the son of Adelaide great Tyson Edwards.

Edwards made his debut in Round 12 this year and went on to play eight senior games in 2021.”

Yep coming good.

There are changes happening in that dept.

Yep - the drafting dept😄

Proud Of You Yes GIF

Just more Will Ashcroft pushing Dev Robertson closer to the exit. Be interesting to see if we go for Fiorini or Robertson or hit the draft with our second rounders.

Ashcroft was tagged all game, but handled it well.

Dev was second BOG, behind Ashcroft. It was noted that he looked somewhat p!ssed off at something the whole game, and wasn’t his usual happy self.

Gotta feel for Joyce. I think there’s a more than decent footballer there but hasn’t been able to show it

Was worth a punt with a nothing pick at the time

So with some contractual status cleared up, I make it that we had 17 players out of contract (excl Shep).

Of these, we have answers on JK retiring and Strnadica leaving football (I did not think I could credibly write that these 2 were both retiring)

That leaves us with 6 most likely extensions, to me at least 4 obvious delistings/lost FA and 6 in question.

We sit at 43 in our list (counting Shep, JK and Strnadica gone) meaning we will likely cull another 5 as a minimum and it could be up to 7.

Here is my latest attempt at the comings and goings

I might be on my own on these 2 but I would be moving both Foley and Langdon to the rookie list. It would mean delisting them with a promise to pick them up if others have not.

In the event that talk of Rotham possibly wanting a trade eventuates, I would probably keep one of Nelson, Witherden or Winder.

I am proposing to keep Dixon for another year as I am not confident Oscar will be cherry ripe and it feels light on for KPF (unless we go with Gov as a forward/ruck).

So many of our players on the biggest coin have been injured long term . Years some of them have missed . If we were not constrained by coin we could have taken Gold Coasts salary offload midfielder last year plus pick 19 ( Johnson ) . That's why I am saying it's time These high paid players coming out of contract should accept a very small contract to repay the club carrying them . In business nice guys don't win , our club needs to be more ruthless in the salary dept.

Joyce got literally the last spot on the list (along with Naish).

Bit different from taking a punt on an injury-prone player with a first rounder, I’d have thought.
Bailey Rogers was there. I have seen him deliver another quality year at Claremont and suggest he would have been better than Naish, Joyce (not hard), West and Trew.

So Guv was being wooed by Freo and Gaff by Norf. How would you have sold 3 year deals to them and stopped them being set for life on real deals in front of them? FWIW - I believe we got close to but did not quite match the alternate offer for both.

One aspect I think we need to remember with Gov - he was on a relatively low salary when he won his first 2 AA awards.

It goes to show that we need to go hard back at Freo and as they start to look to stay in the top 4, we screw up their salary cap. Make Peter Bell go for a hard hat and not feathers.
