The only issue with this, practically, is that it seems like we may have promised to pick up Florenca and if we leave him to our second pick, someone else may swoop in. Clubs want to be seen as being true to their word, being seen as untrustworthy comes with consequences.

WTF - if true that’s an indictment on our club and recruiters.

Never promise anything other than to ‘take best available’ - if we are committing to someone before a draft then more fools us.

We’ve got pick 1 - we’ve got the whole lolly shop to choose from.

If we promise to pick him up and someone gets him first, that’s not a huge deal. He’s still on an AFL list.

If we promise to pick him up and he goes undrafted, that’s more of an issue.

Florenca has had no contact with WCE since he played the AFL game two weeks ago ...not even an email but has nominated for the MSD keen to play AFL if given the chance , otherwise stay at SF and probably win the Sandover medal .

Who is Ed Pacoe? Is he credible?
I've done a few things with him on the Big Footy Phantom Draft and he is pretty knowledgeable. When he goes to the U18 games, he usually has a focus on the game and players where as Twomey is a damn fine networker and spends most of his time talking to the recruiters at the game.

He also goes to a balance of games and is not so Sandi/Oakley centric.

I don’t think we will have the b***s to pass on Florenca after what we paid to bring Kelly back. Would be more than happy to be proven wrong. From his WAFL form and what we saw against the lions he will be a solid player for the 5-6 years at the very least while kids develop.

I agree with most of you that this is the year to cut the list deep and to be honest I think we can bounce back quickly if the right decisions are made.

Retire: Hurn, Kennedy, Shuey, Cripps
Trade: Gaff, Petch, Nelson, Langdon
Delist: Joyce, Trew, Dixon, Strnadica

On trade Gaff’s second rounder to Lions for Robertson
Offer Bailey Williams and 19 to Melbourne for Jackson
Offer up our future first which will be appealing to clubs if we can end up with another top 5 pick in this draft and get 2 quality mids with A grade potential.

I know some of you might say I’m dreaming but we can end up with 2 quality mids plus Robertson and Jackson if we are creative enough.

I wonder if we have called him at suggested he check his spam folder. History says we haven't.

Even if we got the Bulldogs version of Bailey Williams the Demons aren't trading Jackson for him and 19. They would want a minimum top-5 pick, our version of Williams would be very much steak knives to any deal (which we won't get done - surely we aren't dumb enough to give up either #1/#2 this year or a likely top-5 next year).

It was in an article (I think one behind a paywall, so either The West or The Age). Florenca said he hadn't had contact with the club since playing for them (it seemed to be indicating he had no contact in any capacity - which is odd, I would have thought regular check-in's would be a good thing seeing as he stepped in to help us out when we needed it).

I have an out the box thought on State league B&Fs. With all the various opinions on AFL not really supporting or even being a negative for state leagues etc combined with the various argument's around players that get missed and should have been picked up etc. I have a soft spot for introducing a forced last round draft and single year contract to the AFL for state league B&F by a team in their state, effectively guaranteeing an AFL trial. There's a number of possible options around deciding how that happens ( No passes, top or bottom team force, part pay from AFL and many other possibles etc etc.). I feel it could really help drive a connection between the state leagues and AFL, turn into a special event worth striving for and be a media positive re state league etc. There is enough dead wood on every AFL list to accommodate the notion that adding a state league B&F who might surprise or at least be better depth then much dead wood has some merit. Out of the box a little I know but I've discussed with a few and most eventually agree the AFL and the hundreds of listed players could accommodate the 5 state league B&Fs as single year evaluation prospects in their state. Anything above that is up to the club. I think it could really drive some state league interest, performance and incentive whilst in reality not being any real negative to AFL, possibly a real positive in that extra connection to state level.

If true, it really paints a picture of what a busted arse organisation we are across all facets at the moment.

Like the Kelly trade. We promised to trade him back and it didn't matter the cost.

Someone tell him he's dreaming.

Williams and 19 for Jackson. Lol. You're obviously talking about Ricky Jackson or Mark Jackson.

I do agree 19 and Williams is a bit of a stretch, the point i was trying to make was if we can be creative enough we can jump up the ladder a lot sooner than people think.

What's he think of Culley?

Kind of like the recruit contest but with actual players. I think it's a great idea to add as a Cat B rookie outside the cap as a free hit essentially. Problem is no state team wants to lose their best player. No way will anybody associated with the WAFL clubs agree to that, they just kind of treat AFL as if it isn't doesn't exist and just drains their talent pool.

Some negatives I can see -> guys who would be drafted anyway would lose their 2 yr min contract security, and clubs like North would no way play a guy like Aaron Black aged 29 (if they had a first choice team), over developing a 19 yr old rookie, when perhaps Geelong could.
-> Also you could see a players with families, work and other interests that keep them from being a full time athlete.

I do think there is way too much bottoming out of teams and there could be some list management rules brought in to prevent that.
