Why would he leave North because they are going through a rebuild, to come to us?
Because he’d be leaving a club that’s in perpetual rebuild for a team that hopefully will be back in the reckoning in 2 or 3 years with sage drafting and trading.

Plus the obvious pull of coming home to WA.

Why would we bother with another ruckman though?

Agreed.

Season is cooked. Teakle ain’t a world beater and won’t be leading WCE ruck in future.

We have 3 or 4 bit players in the ruck at the moment and with NN due to return soon (somewhere between the next 1 & 52 weeks) we’re ok.

Jameson and Williams starting to show a ‘bit’ - give them more game time ahead of NN return.

We’d be wasting a low draft pick, for the round, on Teakle.

If our recruiters are any good we could give our rebuild a leg up next week. Teakle ain’t the leg up we need.

Seems to be abit of chat that we will take Brynn Teakle in the MSD - that would make sense given Bell's comment we will go tall. Bet we Florenca and Teakle sigh.

We haven't had the picks though.

In 2013 we took Sheed at 11. He was the highest rated WA player at the time. Cripps went at 13. Zach Merret at 26.
In 2014 we took Duggan. Eyebrows were raised as to why we took a half back flanker but the next midfielder better than him is Touk Miller at 29.
In 2015 our first pick was at 28. We took Partington. He was an u18 AA midfielder. Not sure what we did with our first pick.
In 2016 we took Veneables at 13.
In 2017 we took Brander at 13
In 2018 our first pick was at 28. We took Xon.
In 2018 we sold our first station and didn't have a pick until 49. Jamieson.
In 2020 we sold our second station and our first pick was at 52. Edwards.
in 2021 we took Chesser at 14.

When you go and have a look at those drafts, the top 10-13 have a lot of talent or decent players still playing. After that it's few and far between. It's an absolute lottery. I think someone on here said "every pick after 18 is like having pick 18".

Not sure why our first picks in 2015 and 2018 were at 28, but I assume we were in flag mode and recruiting in jigsaw pieces.

We sold the farms for Kelly, but we were chasing a flag. A change up of gameplan and we may have won another one.

The true issue is this: We just didn't have the picks. When you look at our picks at 13 and the players that came after - it's a lottery. There's players all the other clubs missed too.

Have a look at the 2018 draft. First 13 picks are strong. After that, hardly anyone is playing anymore.

This is why who we draft in the next 3 years is critical.

2015 first rounder was traded for Jack Redden.

2018 first rounder we traded down. Can't remember the details but we ended up with four picks in the second round (O'Neill, Foley, B. Williams and Cameron).

Was 2017, not 2018.

EDIT: Sorry, yes misread your post, you're right. They got 2018 Pick 18, we got like three 2017 second round picks.
I think we're trying to say the same thing.

IN: 2017 Pick 21, 26, 37 & 2018 Pick 25

OUT: 2017 Pick 50 & 2018 Pick 22 (our first rounder)

We essentially got 21, 26 & 37 by going back three spots in 2018.

The reality is that we aren't going to take any more than 6 picks in the draft. That would leave us taking our last pick in the 70s or 80s as other teams will pass, unless we trade somebody or next years 1st round pick. I can't see much value in what we already have. Gaff, Nelson etc aren't going to get you anything of value in the trade period.

So who do we have to work with.

Our backline isn't looking that bad with McGovern and Barrass still looking the goods for at least 2 years for me. We have Bazzo and possibly Harry Edwards to fill in if either of these 2 go down. I quite like Foley as a defender and could see Jones as a defensive runner from the backline. I can recall Yeo being quite good defensively and think with his OP running in straight lines would be better for him. He's a great defensive mark and a reasonable kick. Hough will take a while but given a solid pre-season and game time I can see him advancing quite quickly. Cole is serviceable. Witherden knows how to find the ball but doesn't have a football brain. Rotham for depth.

Does Duggan or Nelson have any trade value? Duggan maybe, Nelson maybe not.

Mids seem to be our biggest area of concern. I like both Clark and West as extractors with Kelly on the outside. I also like Jones in the middle but prefer him down back. Redden and Gaff aren't quick enough to create separation where Petrucelle is probably too quick without having the thought process. Yet to see Chesser play but it's a given we keep him. Shuey just doesn't have the hamstrings to be able to last out games. Rotation is the answer but we need to get the mix right. Play Shuey off half forward with small rotations perhaps. I'd be happy to leave Naish on a wing. Petrevski-Seton I'm not sold on. Would love to see him injury free before making a decision. Sheed is our 1st choice mid.

Trew, O'neill and Luke Edwards I'd hang onto for 1 more year.

So far I'd Retire Hurn and Kennedy. Trade Duggan if we find a suitor. Delist Langdon, Joyce, Strnadica and Waterman

Could we possibly pick up Josh Browne in the MSD. Been putting up better numbers than eagles listed players for the wafl side. Had 36 last week and is only 19.
Should definitely get a gig at AFL level somewhere IMO but is like Sheed with out the goal kicking ability. Doesn't tackle or have a lot of pace but can get his hands on the footy.

Florenca would have been good if we had one of West or Clark. Jury still out on both those lads. Clark in the next 18 months need to be a midfield mainstay but for his size he doesn't see like a bull. Funnily enough would love Florenca's toughness and his ability to go in and dig the dirty ball out. He isn't old but his age does worry me a tiny bit even with redden/Gaff/Shuey likely retire over the next 18 months we still have a large core of senior mids and not much room for chessar and any young mids coming in.

Chessar has to play Wing and bit of inside mid next season and any mid we take next season has to play in the me midfield from day one.

No thanks. Zuhaar the type of bloke that will look a million bucks in a good team but he is very frustrating in a bad team.
Zurhaar has played his whole career with North. How do we know what he’ll look like in a good team?

I rate him. I would do Gaff and a 3rd rounder in a heartbeat but wouldn't give up a second rounder because we need as many draft lottery tickets as possible.

I'd also ask him to drop the weight and see if he has a tank.

Clark has never been an inside bull i believe, can rack up possessions. Its why wardlaw is what we need

Yep, assuming we have pick 1 we bid on Ashcroft (surely Brisbane match, but may as well still bid as he is the best player in a position of need for us), then Wardlaw.

Obviously champs may change this a little - but generally it solidifies it more than changes it.
