Just because they are both 1st rounders it doesn't make them worth an equal amount 2 and/or 3 years into their careers.

Clark was worth much more 2 years ago - Brander is worth more now than 12 months ago (when Geelong wanted him as part of the Kelly trade and we held out).

We'd basically be giving Geelong the exact sort of player they need - for a player that we have quite a few of. I'm sure I heard somewhere (Wells!) that certain clubs make others pay more if they are 'making a contender stronger'...

Clark is a 21 year old super quick half back / mid.

Who do we have like him exactly? Because I can't think of a single player on our list like Clark.

They are both young fringe players yet to break into the best 22.

Similar age.

Similar draft picks used on them. And both teams would benefit from the swap.

So yes they have more similarities on current value than just being taken 1st round in the teens.

I mean, I thought it was pretty obvious that the only thing I was challenging was your ridiculous hyperbolic “below WAFL reserves level” claim. Which you’ve now walked back.

But since you mention it:
- you cite his AFL stats as proof that he was “not even up to WAFL standard” when his actual WAFL performance in 2019 was fine.
-“never looked like getting a game since” apart from all those times he was an emergency, and when he played both pre-season games in 2020.

What are you basing this on, mate? Geelong making a GF and therefore being a much clearer 'contender'?

Brander hasn't done anything on field to increase his value in the past year.

Brander went from 3 games over the previous 2 seasons to playing 8 (out of 18) this year

Brander showed some AFL quality moments - and is still very much a work in progress. He's definitely worth more than he was 12-months ago.

As a side note Clark went from 18 games (noting a longer season) to 3 games this year (he did have injuries)...

Except in the two Grand Final sides you’ve got players taken in recent rookie drafts making an impact like Short, Lambert, Castagna, Baker, Henry, Simpson, and then Atkins who didn’t play but was best 22 for Geelong for most of the year.

last decade’s power sides Sydney and to a lesser extent Hawthorn also had several rookies playing in their premiership teams.

It’s fair to say WC doesn’t use the rookie draft as well as other recently successful sides.

yeah...that’s a handful of role players - ok Richmond has jagged some decent talent - but are Short and Lambert going to carry that midfield if Martin was to go down? - Geelong have Henry, Simpson and Atkins?...it’s not exactly mind blowing stuff.

We’ve had some hits over the years (some massive ones), but it’s not something that dictates success in a team - it’s a bonus.

Top 30 (or so) selection hit rate and not making terrible trades is waaaaay more relevant.

Personally I'd like clark on our list playing on a wing instead of brander.

We've been procuring B and C grade midfield talent for a decade now, just cut to the chase and buy A graders

B and C grade talent?

A graders such as Kelly and Yeo....both traded in.

Or Shuey, Sheed and Gaff all drafted in the past 10 years.

Oh and in a year or two Duggan will be in the conversation as well.

A back flank to release Duggan into the guts.

The bench to replace any of Ah chee, Ainsworth or Petrucelle.
