Yep this . Desire to chase and win the ground ball was key to us winning 2018 .
Saying that our game plan structure has us sagging a player/players off the defensive side of the stoppage meaning we are outnumbered at the fall of the ball
We do this in hope of getting the opposition to kick long over our defensive positioned mids to bring into play our intercept marking defenders .
This strategy falls apart in the wet or slippery conditions
We are also susceptible to teams who use run and carry through our defensive wall and don't kick long to a contest
Okay, let me get this clear - the game style is good except in wet or slippery conditions. Otherwise it's good - except with teams who run and carry. Otherwise it's good. Sorry but I don't like fifth spot. It might light the Cockburners' fire but it does nothing for me.
And I'm not automatically suggesting we try to out-Richmond Richmond, just saying our current style only gets us to fifth. We need to evolve.
As to Brander going to defence, seems the selectors have Rotham and Edwards ahead of him (just like Waterman and Allen are ahead in the forward line.) Nothing in particular against him, I just thinks he's surplus and we need to give something to get something.
