I've been doing some NAPLAN marking training. The latest is that you do make some guesses regarding whether or not it's a typo, particularly if they've got it right once and then wrong the second time. Twice in a row isn't a typo. Should be Whats' on Melbourne.

Who the hell buys shoe polish?
If your shoes are dirty or a bit worn out you throw them out and buy a new pair.
We're not going to spend time making a good polish for the tiny minority of people who use it.

My kids are shockers for this one. I’ve taught them as a rule of thumb; it’s “less” if it must be measured, and “fewer” if it must be counted. Does that work, for the teachers in the thread?

I note that they have used French for pineapple, ananas, which I appreciate greatly.

That's traditional, but i think that less has become standard for either. Fewer only for countable nouns and becoming rare outside a formal register.

No ideas, I teach primary school.
