JuniorB answered it well.

The word "doner" in Turkish actually means rotating or turning.
Hence turning kebab. As opposed to other types of kebab.

Is this different to a donor kebab which is BBQ'd meat served to wealthy guests after a political rally in the US?

Ah so .. a gyros can be its own thing or it can surreptitiously morph be wrapped into a souvlaki...

PS I've never ranked ottoman as high as a dude before but this could be his chance 👹😀

EFA

To confirm... a "gyros plate"

As a Vic living in Adelaide, this whole conversation has really pissed me off. Us Vics have gotten it wrong and call a gyros a souva (what's this laki that people are speaking of) and these ****wits are right calling it a gyros. Next thing someone will post that their pronunciation of cahstle is right and castle is wrong.

Personally I'm happy with Souvlaki, Yiros, Gyros, but I think we can all agree that the Greek Greeks have it wrong by putting chips in them.
Piss of SR. Chips is a must in a Gyros with tzatziki. Don't get me started bro.
No chips tastes like shit
