Re: D4 Section Ammos

We finished last year off pretty well (Albert Park) and had a heap of new blokes last year which took a little while to gel, no massive predictions we are just looking to start the year a lot better than last year.

Also was talking to a VAFA board member on Sat at teh races and he confirmed the season is going ahead on the 14th no matter what happens, still no praccy games but at least we have a season!

Falcon, doubt it, but sounds promising!
I have heard that the lower grades "may" be scaled back to give the higher grades preference if the rain stays away.

I am serious, will be starting on that date.

I can tell you the source is very high up at the Ammos and he confirmed we will be be starting so you can doubt it all you like but if you are a player I would be getting ready for the 14th!

Re: D4 Section Ammos

Saw some Eley Park boys out after the Sydney Rd Street Party last night. Seemed pretty keen on the year ahead. One of them (their B&F last year?) was showing off his guns with great pride!

Not sure how high up you'd have to be to overrule council jurisdiction on which grounds are fit to play on and which are not. On current form there would be too many grounds in an unfit state to open the season as per normal across all grades. Obviously a lot can happen between now and mid April, so how can anyone be so sure of an on-time start to season 2007?

Exactly Knackers.

Of course the VAFA officials want the season to start on time - where do you think they get their pay packets from? If there was any reduction in games to be played, all clubs would have recourse to reduced affiliation fees, thus less money in the coffers for administration staff!

If the council says no, and VAFA says the season is go, where do 1/2 the clubs think they will be playing????

If he's so damn certain then why wouldn't they go ahead and announce that the season will start on time. Too many clubs are still twidling their thumbs wondering what's going on, when to schedule functions, etc.

Because the meeting was late last week, there should be an annoucement soon.

As for the council issues, just taking a guess but would of thought that while the board was making a decision on the entire football season they may of been smart enough to also consult councils, just a thought???

Re: D4 Section Ammos

was talking to mate of mine who works at vic uni and he said that UHS-VU have got a few handy players looking into playing together there.
he didnt name names but said there was 4-8 of them and a copule had been playing gvfl and bfl footy last couple of years, does ne one no their names?

There is no huge need to panick just yet I rekon. Grounds only need 2 to 3 weeks of good watering to get them up, and 1 water a week during Winter to keep them cherry ripe. Grassroots footy in Melbourne is far too big and important for the gov't to let a season slip (Over 50,000 players - Juniors included) and god knows how much money footy brings in. Plus it keeps blokes like those tossers from Hawthorn Ammo's off the streets! (Just a friendly jibe boys!!)

I rekon it will be game on from April 14!!

Finally someone being positive about us having a season!

You boys could be right but I was just letting everyone know what I was told to my face from someone from the VAFA, I know there is a problem with some grounds but was just pumped by the news I guess!

Re: D4 Section Ammos

Just getting away from one trauma to another guys but given I believe that it will be compulsory to submit scores etc immediately after a game, have any administrators got any plans or ideas on how you'll be doing this? Apparently this has to be done live over the web and somehow we have to set this up at our clubrooms. Has anyone come up with any cheap options?

I've noticed a few posts on the BigFooty forums about this; mainly having a bit of a whinge about it. I guess it's not an ideal scenario but it won't be too hard to comply with for most clubs.

We don't have a phone line (let alone a computer) at our club, but it is possible to use a laptop with a wireless card to connect to the net. This is the solution I would recommend to most clubs without Internet connection.

Have a word to the players down at your club. I've no doubt one of the boys would have a laptop with wireless internet connection.

I also would like there to be a full season for all sections but hold your horses and stop blaming VAFA and councils and saying they should make a decision, the truth is THEY!! CANNOT;The people who will ultimately make this decision are the insurance companies who hold the cover for the councils.
No getting away from this these days; How I long for the good old days when we all just had a game of footy and if injured, got better, came back and played, but didn't look for someone to sue;Alas the genie is out of the bottle and nothing anyone can do will put it back.
Stay possitive, train, plan and look to the skies in hope,my money is on a full season, with hard grounds but playable.

Did my super hero ears detect the cries of help from a follicle challenged citizen?

Your comments concerning the insurance companies being the ultimate arbiters on whether a ground is fit for play: Correct when it comes to nervous councils.
However Nelly; the simple fact that VAFA is made up of many member teams who have access to quality school facilities allays a big portion of the problem.
Most recent posts have a least some truths.
The VAFA executive DO rely on teams playing footy to generate the economy that is VAFA. As such they will strive to accommodate all teams, in any way they can, to start the season on time. Yes there is a very real threat, to 'District Clubs' in particular, that grounds may be closed for indefinite periods past April 14.
A possible scenario facing the brains trust down at Elsternwick Palace could involve up to 20% of member teams, across all grades, having nowhere to play for the months of April and June. This is where our paid servants earn there money. Rather than just put everything on hold, you will find a massive re jigging of the fixtures needs to take place.
You may find clubs without grounds playing up to their first 8 games away. Utilization of venue resources will be the key. It may require some games played on a Sunday, double headers running into twilight games, Friday twilight games for reserve grade/Clubbies/U19s and even night games midweek.
Flexibility is the answer. Clubs effected by the GP around the Albert Park area have been experiencing and overcoming this problem for years. Last season Hawthorn played a huge block of games away while they desperately negotiated for the use of Glenferrie Oval, then came home with about 8 games in a row on their temporary home.
I don't claim to know anything for certain. I like everyone else is willing each cloud that passes overhead to burst open.
I just believe that the VAFA is far better resourced to overcome this crappy situation than other suburban leagues around Melbourne.

And yes Nelly; in the pre litigation era of the 'good old days' we would have been just happy to see a set of straight goal posts.
As for Callit, I defend Nelly here. He was merely referring to the good old days of people not suing each other as part of their usual retirement plan. He was not advocating a return to all things retro footy.

It does make me wonder if you have run out of Horlicks at Casa de Nellup though, what are you doing posting at that hour of the night?

Good call Nellup...
God help someone who can take responsibility for their own actions and not worry about suing everytime they scrape a knee......AHHH the good old days. (About 5 years ago!)

(Again, its usually those soft c*cks down at Hawthorn that behave like preppy boys who need their mummy (Some of them MILF's - and thats really good!) to wipe the snot off their sooky noses. )

Anyway, I am still praying for rain, (And for a lend of one of Hawthorn's MILF's)

Are we have some quality back;)in the thread, thankyou for the support spy1,am pleased that some still have the ability of comprehension, late night posting due to to much paperwork:mad:.
The brain beneath my skid lid has told me that callitasitiz may be a certain medditerrrranean manipulator of some repute???
From what I have read here I hope someone from VAFA is monitoring this thread, there are some good ideas floating around here, maybe someone should organise a meeting between VAFA and the thread members, some common sense being written here, and all ideas and aspects should be considered valuable and looked at!
Oops, maybe I should log onto Career One and start looking now:D

Re: D4 Section Ammos

At the VAFA members meeting last night all clubs were informed that the season WILL start on 14th April. It's up to the clubs to inform their players and it's up to the VAFA to worry about the rain falling.

Spy1 is dead right... Situations like this is where the VAFA Executive (as of last nights meeting now to be referred to as Board) earn their keep. There are all sorts of options available to the association. It may require changing the fixtures a little but the point they wanted to stress is start preparing for season 2007 because it's just over a month away.:thumbsu:

Did you ask if we could get our rescheduled games at the Telstra Dome? We'd like an arena with a roof to keep all the rain off... If possible.

Re: D4 Section Ammos

I can assure you anything you have heard about recruitment at Albert Park will be way off, we have a couple of new blokes but mostly just the same guys as last year.

Eltham will be early runners without a doubt, maybe learnt a few things about finals footy the last couple and have a good year.

Box Hill will be decent and obviously the 4 new unknown teams.

Re: D4 Section Ammos

Im sure St Mary's recruiting can't go unnoticed, return of Jedda, and that young on baller thats getting paid $800.00 a game that came 3rd in A grade league b&f from Marcilen surely the best pcik up in D4???
