I could see Hawthorn making a play for Parish tbh, Christ knows they have the cap space and flexibility to sign him

Hawk fans feel free to disagree, but I reckon DP would be pretty damn good in Brown and Gold.
If cash is his motivator he'd stay.
We'd pay the same and we're less a basket case..which is saying something

Not sure hawks would be on his radar.
Pies, dees and cats would be my guess

If cats win even 12 games this year, hard to believe they won't drop again in 2024. Why would he go to Geelong, especially if younger mids like Bruhn, Clarke are struggling. Some cats fans are very concerned with the selection of Clarke with pick 8. Probably being harsh on him, not everybody can be as good as Selwood as a young player.
I think for a 24 -28 year old to switch clubs, the most important thing is some good players younger than you at the club. Otherwise you join and the list goes backwards as the good players start to drop off due to age / injuries.

Cats have geography.
Darcy is from out that way so i wouldn't count them out

As the post above says Cats have geography in their favour. A lot of players are from regional areas and Geelong give them the opportunity to live in a regional area and still play AFL footy.

No doubt some players do assess prospects of clubs but that is fraught - remember Adam Treloar deciding between Tigers and Pies based on lists?

For some players they might look at a list say "well hey I could be the best player at this club and get paid tonnes + exposure".

I suspect for most players it is like any job, if you like the job you are doing you then decide mostly on location and pay. Winning flags and playing finals is great but it isn't guaranteed no matter how hard you individually try.

If we finish low enough to receive a top 5 pick if band 1 is met I really hope he and we make that deal.

Also we have plenty of money in the cap so any team can reach band 1 compo as we can just trade for one of their bad contracts to make the space.
So bottom 4. And you’d think that if Bombers finish that low Parish will opt out.
Band 1 compo would be highly likely in that event.

I think he'll stay but have to laugh at Essendon fans saying they are fine with him leaving if he goes.

Wtf is wrong with some of you? There are no gurantees the top 5 compo we would get could be a better player then Parish.

We are a club who can't afford to lose good players we should be doing everything we can as a club to show Parish that Essendon is the place to be.

Melb would have zero interest we already have two guys that play his role and are better. I think we do need some younger mids but Parish is too old.

Im not replacing Parish with the likely top 5 pick we would receive. I am replacing Darcy from within. Hobbs, Caldwell, Perkins needs more midfield time.

Finally someone realises that the balance of the team will be better without Parish.
If I’m Geelong I’ll take him as he won’t cost any draft capital and will help your young mids develop as you have a few guys retiring in next couple years.

Parish is the exact type a team that is pushing for a flag needs. He can run hard, get plenty of the ball and is durable. Think this is his last chance for a big contract. Interesting to see how this plays out

I agree from geelongs perspective if hes FA.

The "move home" factor with Victorian players going to Geelong is so funny. It's basically an outer suburb of Melbourne.

Its not the distance its the lifestyle and the reasons are fairly obvious.

Essendon 'low 'balling' Parish and his management would be the main reason if he left Essendon, he loves the club and would probably accept less that what Geelong or others would offer him, nothing at all to do with Cotton On or so called former President Frank Costa's Fruit and Veg business empire down there..

Anyhow Dylan Shiel makes more money from his work with a high rolling Millionaire member of Essendon's Coterie group than he does from the EFC anyway (allegedly)

Clever clubs know how to grease the wheels outside the cap.
