Only the top 10 draftees are flown to the actual convention on the Gold Coast. If he's going over there then chances are he's being taken in the top 10.

True. But Matt's right, the notion that the clubs have already made their selections and informed both the players and the AFL of their decisions is a bit ridiculous.

Wouldn't it always work like that though? There's a fair bit of preparation that goes into the footage for the top 10 picks.

I guess it is only 12 days away - I still had it in my head it was months, haha.

I won't pretend to know how it works. But I do think it would be very strange. You make a valid point with the preparation - but it's a bit odd that channel 10 would already have hold of that news?

Yerp, who knows. Maybe he's told a big mouth about it or something.

Just popping int to explain. :D The players are informed that a club will/most likely take them up just prior to the draft. I don't think they know THIS early though. As far as I'm aware, interviews are still being held.

Case in point, Jake Stringer last year originally wasn't going to make the trip up to the Gold Coast until the Dogs made it ridiculously clear to the AFL that they were going to select him with their first pick. So he was whisked up.

Broadly speaking Sheed and Waterman are similar, but at this stage Waterman is more versatile player. He's like Salem in that regard who is obviously a very accomplished outside midfielder who can play either end of the ground. Waterman can do the same only as he's got a great marking and kicking game, he does it with less pace and has a stronger inside game to compliment it.

I think the under rated aspect of Acres game could be his potential to be explosive ground level player. Too many people see him as a tall outside type who likes to run, kick and mark. He does do that when he plays around the ground and gets on the spread, but when the ball is on the deck he's as clean as most shorter players.

I love to draft or develop some tall big bodied inside midfielders. Not just someone like Acres but someone in the Watson or Kennedy mold that could rest forward. All they'd really need to do is win the hard stuff and then use their height for marking advantage around the ground.

This way you could thrown rotate half a dozen players through the center square and then onto wings and flanks. All with different speed, size and disposal attributes.

so who did you have in mind for that inside mid role?Cripps and Jansen still?Could Robertson be an inside mid?

True. But Matt's right, the notion that the clubs have already made their selections and informed both the players and the AFL of their decisions is a bit ridiculous.

Its not that difficult working out who is going top 6 and Norths pick is already locked in, that leaves three more players to cover.

You basically ask the clubs with picks 7, 9 and 10 to provide three names each outside the obvious top 6 + McDonald.

Those clubs obviously didn't list Sheed or Arces in the three players they would chose.

The AFL like the top ten standing up there with their gurnsey's for the photo shoot. Saying that Norths have asked permission for McDonald to not attend.

Its not hard people.

Lennon has played more footy this year than Acres.
Lennon has played half forward all year except for tac finals where he played midfield.
Lennon is a great leading marking target at half forward.
His kicking is his weapon.
Acres played mainly midfield for west perth, but for WA he played everywhere.
Acres is a elite runner he wasn't at his best at draft camp because of his shoulder injury.
But his pre-season testing this year would of put him in the top two for beep test, repeat sprints and jumping ability
at the draft camp.
Lennon is a beautiful powerful kick of the footy Shannon Hurn style.
Acres is also a very good kick, looks like he has more time than others and rarely misses a target.
Acres is very good shot on goal, like Lennon.

I prefer Acres and at 190 cm he is perfect height, and adds what we desperately need in our midfield.
He is also a silky mover, a great player too watch on the field.
He has the bonus of being a athlete with a very good footy brain and a natural footballer which
is a rare combination.

We will end up greatly regretting it if we dont pick him up.

What an absurd statement. You don't even know who else is going to be available at our pick. Give me next week's lotto numbers while you are at at.

It's an absolute statement sure. But as a prospective AFL player Acres projects highly, higher than most ranked in the first round.

Cripps if he's there at 31. Robertson if he's there at 43. Jansen at 49 or as a rookie.

Colledge would be my pick of our existing players.

I would be happy with those picks but I don't think Cripps makes it to 31. I also think we can do better than Jansen who I see as a bit one dimensional.

He has a high upside but so do many players. Some of those players also don't have an injury history like Acres.

I wouldn't take all of them. Just where i'd consider them.

Want Crippa. :(

So the clubs with picks 7, 9 and 10 have to make their selections early and but everyone else can take theirs 2 weeks later?

The AFL wouldn't 'guess' the top six - they need to have it 100%. It would be a tremendous **** up if they got this wrong.

No, for this to work the top ten would need to be selected early. Something I'm skeptical about but as I've said some valid points have been made.

You shouldn't patronise people when your own post is so very flawed.

Its good news for us and it certainly suggests Brisbane is going to pick McCarthy at 7. At this point I think our pick will be Sheed or Acres. The other possibility I see is Lennon but some recruiters consider him a flight risk.

The West saying that McCarthy is wanted by Brisbane #7 and Collingwood #10 . Brisbane will most likely take McCarthy if their first choice in Scharenberg has already been taken in the first six picks , Collingwood are interested at # 10 ortherwise . WCE seem likely by these rumours of getting Sheed at #11 which could be a bargain and Vozzo is a genius !

I'm with RE, Acres is the one we need.
Acres looks like he will be a very good player, and I would be happy with him, but if there was a choice between the two I would choose Sheed. I thought Sheed had it all over Acres in leadership skills but the piece on Ch 7 showed that Acres is also a leader. Best case scenario in an ideal world would be to have both. :p

Vozzo is crazy... like a fox.

If we dont take Acres (or Sheed) another club had better take him before Freo. I would be pretty jealous if they got him with their really late first rounder.
