If we dont take Acres (or Sheed) another club had better take him before Freo. I would be pretty jealous if they got him with their really late first rounder.

I know it's not the Freo thing to do, but surely they would take a KPP?

Actually, Ross wouldn't do that, disregard.

Sheed and Acres are both very nice players for their own reasons and I think both will have very solid careers.

Just think that Acres has more potential to pinch hit up forward, create a mismatch and take a grab, or start his career has a hff working into the middle as he gets more experience and a body to protect his shoulder (which i'm not worried about anyway tbh).

This versatility is what makes me want Acres over Sheed.

We won't use 49 will we?

Or is there another list lodgment prior to the draft?

If we don't use 49 then what the hell was the point of trading the comp pick for 43?

I agree with all the fluff this week about Newman it seems he might stay on the main list in which case we'd have to dump someone else. Plenty of average still on list I guess...

Even though Newman "has a clean slate" he is still facing the possibility of jail (however unlikely) and is due for a December trial. Can we really keep him on the senior list while that's the case?

I would be happy with those picks but I don't think Cripps makes it to 31. I also think we can do better than Jansen who I see as a bit one dimensional.

Jansen has a beast of a body -- he's ready to play from the get-go, and he finds plenty of the ball. One can't expect too much from players selected in the 40's. A few players selected at that range may turn out to be better, but we'll only find that out in hindsight. His big body and ball winning fills a need, and he's a reasonable chance to become a player at AFL level. WC should select him if he's available in the 40's. Players selected as late as the 40's are usually one-dimensional and have deficiencies in their game. If they didn't, they'd likely be selected earlier in the draft. If WC select Jansen and get a solid role player from his selection, that's acceptable, IMO, given the occasional hit but mostly miss history of selections taken at that stage.

If Jansen only turns out to be midfield depth quality or, at worst, de-list worthy, WC lose out on a selection that wasn't expected to yield much or anything at all. With the game now trending toward 6'3, 90kg midfielders, he's worth a shot.

If we select Sheed, any guesses of how many games he'd play next year?

I think he'll play 10-15 games for WC. He may get the Gaff treatment in his first year - with most of his selections in the team resulting as him being the sub, with the occasional full game. He'll also get some stints for Subiaco in order to get game time into him.

While Sheed is more physically mature than Gaff at the same stage, Sheed's inside game requires it, Gaff's outside game did not. Another consideration is: who does Sheed push out? He will play full games when there's injury, but otherwise may be the sub more often than getting full games for WC.

I think Sheed needs 2-3kg more bulk on him to become a mainstay in the middle. He's fit, cut, and can run all day, making him capable of playing on a wing straight away, but has too lean a physique to be a full time IM in his first year. The sub role will give him some experience as an IM at AFL level without subjecting him to its full rigour. Used on a flank or a wing, with the odd rotation into the middle, is Sheed's go in his first year.

Jansen is a manchild playing amongst kids. Will he still be the same player when the opposition is just as big as him? I'm skeptical. Still, he wouldn't be a terrible choice. I just think there will be other players who offer a bit more.

Darling and Hurn were man-child's in their time, too. Their game's translated well despite this.
