Oh no sorry, I'm not claiming to be in the know. All the talk around her is Sheed/Acres. I'm just saying don't be surprised if we pick somebody else which, in my opinion, we should.

I agree with the sentiment, however I would be taking Sheed or Acres before Salem, Freeman or Taylor. Lennon I like a lot, that's a bit harder.

That being said, I'm not convinced the WA options are best options with our 2nd and 3rd picks. A lot of good vic/sa kids that I like at those picks and think some of the wa boys get a bit too much hype. That being said I like Robertson, he has a lot of likeable traits.

Nah, you really have to take BPA with the first pick. If that is Sheed, then so be it. People have short memories. Remember the last time we drafted a WA boy with a high pick? Just because we didn't want the 'go home' factor?

His name was Brad Sheppard. See how that turned out. Can't have it both ways.
Not sure Sheppard was selected on the go home factor. There were, and continually are, rumours about Gaff's wont to go home, yet we still selected him.
We may have, rightly or wrongly, thought Sheppard was best available at 7.

Some times the best plans go pear shape.....as in this instance. :(

Shepard was not decided on the go home factor as we were interested in Lucas, Jetta and Sheppard all WA kids.

Jetta has been pretty good but he really only had a good year last year playing off a wing.

Lucas has shown more than Sheppard but i can not see him getting any better.

Shepard has the tools to be better but he really needs to get into gear and put it all together.

I really want Sheppard to have a quality preseason and no injuries during the year. He has been pretty unlucky each year with injuries and really interrupted his momentum and confidence.

Yes, he very much appears a confidence player.

I thought he started showing some consistency through 2012 when he was given a stretch of games from round 6-19. Also was happy in round 2 this year when he played one of his best game before he got an injury from a Hodge bump ( impressed he played the game out).

I really want to see him Rosa & Yeo rotating on a wing and HBF. He has pace and a pretty good kick and if he can get some of the ball from HBF or a wing i would be pretty happy.

What's your opinion of Grescos and Johnson? Thought they'd at least be worth a rookie look. I'm assuming that we're targeting Shanahan at 43.

I like Grescos, at his best he's physical, uses the ball well and has an impact. Shame he was at Swan Districts.
Johnson reminds me of of an undersized Jack Darling. Just not that agile for his size.

Lucas has barely showed anything. I'd have Shep over him anyway.

Surely not a coincidence that the three players we were considering were all from WA...

It's not like we missed out on some great Eastern States player that was taken just afterwards. Butcher, Moore, Melksham, Gysberts ... only decent one has been Talia and we didn't need a key back.

Yep, I reckon it was. How do you explain pulling the trigger on Gaff, when they could have gone a local to try and bypass the flight risk?
TBH I think the flight risk thinking is overstated.

That's not the point.

Also, using hindsight is cheating ;)

After Swallow and Bennell were taken, Gaff was easily the standout. Conca went a couple of picks later, but that was unexpected. There was nobody else from WA that could have come into calculations for pick 4, thus we took the best available. As it should be.
