So we still have our first and second round pick. Plus Yeo and Ellis.

What's everyone crying over? Sounds fairly solid to me. And by looking at this post, we'll able to snare Sheed or Acres or a number of other quality players at 11.

Squabbling over pick 10/11 or 28/31 is narrow sighted nonsense. It looks like we're getting every player we wanted. That's a big win for the club.

Doesn't really fulfill a need though.

I'd argue he could be developed into a big-bodied midfielder at AFL level, and at the very least, a classy outside receiver/wingman. He has the attributes to do so: height, versatility, athleticism, reading of the play ability and sublime, classy footskills. I think of him as a more midfield capable version of Birchall.

As much as we need a ball-winning inside mid, I'd prefer a player capable of playing anywhere between the arcs (including midfield), with size, pace and the ability to hit leading targets. Kolodjashnij fit's the bill, as does Scharenberg and Acres. Unfortunately, with our recent trading, we're most likely out of contention for two, if not all of them.

Have to disagree, Melbourne (and possibly brisbane pending wtf is happening there) remain our biggest threat to picking up our man. Roos doesnt like going big blokes early in the draft, too speculative, he'll go a midfielder I think, he knows the current lot is shithouse even with the recent trades

Fair call AnyDanger. Thanks for feedback. I think with Vince, Michie and Tyson, a season and another pre season into Viney and Toumpas, the mature age and body of Matt Jones and now Daniel Cross that there is a pressing need for depth in the back line with pick 9. If Frawley, Garland and or Tom McDonald were to go down long term they have issues covering them with the current list. I'd be worried with Cameron Pedersen and Jack Watts next in line to replace them

Will be a pick that i follow closely pre draft and draft night because obviously it's right near ours as well. They may even go with Freeman as an explosive mid at 9

As for Brisbane I've seen from other mocks that they have previously been really into picking Sheed at 7. If you want pure inside class but than Crouch should be your man

And I wouldn't argue with you on that point.
Though it would be better to keep developing a player who is primarily an inside mid to be better than to create that player from a HBF/part-time winger.

If we trade pick 31 for Yeo, I want a statue of Vozzo, erected, erected in front of the new stadium.

If we trade pick 28 for Yeo, I want Vozzo sacked and charged with treason.

Some would say I'm being petty. I would tell those people that we need to sack the coach preemptively.

Best post in the last 20-odd pages.

What are we worrying about? Just ask this guy!

It's largely been a non-issue. Naming 2 players who were poorly managed, 1 of whom was completely starved of opportunity, is hardly indicative of a problem.
You know that there have been more cases than that. I could have quoted others . It might not be much of an issue yet, but it seems to be more of an issue than it used to be.

Apart from Murphy, you've listed three ruckmen, two key defenders and a rookie pick.

Not sure that helps your argument.

As for McCarthy, at this stage last year most thought that Freo would take Mason Shaw in the first round.

I was gutted we didnt get Shaw in the 1st round. We got Josh simpson instead. Simpson looks promising.

Feel free to list the cases..... It's largely a non-issue. The only one I'm aware of that has wanted to "go home" when they were established as a significant player is Judd. Ebert was one that got away because of our management of him.

Judd was a huge blow but not sure we should build our entire strategy around that example.

It's more that the media jump onto it every offseason that sparks the paranoia. Stevens may have pussied out and Ebert's circumstances were unusual, but E87 is right in that we haven't really suffered from it. Our retention rate is reasonable.
