Strategy Does Geelong play 'dumb' football?

Far be it for me to mix metaphors, but the optimistic part of me hopes the Cats are like this puppy here;

Huge head, big paws, but the structure that holds it all together, the body, is still too damned small. Geelong 2000-2003 looked like this puppy too.

We can grow into our bodies. And become killers again:cool:
Look at those paws! That's going to be one big pooch in a few months. I hope your metaphor is accurate. Are we at the 2000 or 2003 end of the spectrum?

One reservation: is anyone at the club that cuuuuuuuute? Look at that face! I wanna smoosh it! :D

Great point - one thing that really disappointed me this year was that kick outs were invariably a bomb either to the flanks or down the middle, normally resulting in a contest where we'd break even at best. At worst, the kick would be rebounded to a loose forward inside 50.
I think we missed Josh Hunt more than I ever thought we would, and we need to improve greatly in this area next year.

Those 'hopeful' bombs up the middle spoke volumes about how reactive and unimaginative we had become.

Seemed totally incapable of coming up with a better way to hold possession out of the back half. And it seemed to me we weren't even able to win 50% of the contests that were created at CHB as a result.:(

Every time I saw them aiming up to bomb it down the middle I cringed instinctively.

No rucks/talls to go to (apart from Q9) with a snowball's chance of taking the contested grab (or mostly even halving the contest) from a kick-in cost us dearly all year.

To me it felt like a distinct failure of the coaching group to come up with any other possible solution for this glaring and consistent problem throughout the season.

Just try something!:mad:

More thoughts on this subject, our MC is also pretty ordinary at team selection.

Still puzzles me why we run such a tall backline in the first place, no wonder smalls murder us, we must have the tallest and slowest backline in the league.

Then they play Blitz,Hmac, Simpson, Hawkins and Kersten/Walker/Brown.. and wonder why we get killed on the spread so often.

Don't get me started on playing players they shouldn't Eg: Smedts vs Swans...

That's ok right guys? We're the only AFL club keeping it real.....Real dumb
