I wonder what he will do after footy seems to think he has another year in him
Is he hanging on because life after footy is a bit daunting can’t see him in the media or coaching never heard of any realestate or business interests
Do the Blues money men look after ex captains with cushy jobs somehow

Catch 22 situation here. If he is to get to 300, Teague has to insist he go in hard & attack ball, putting his body on the line like the rest of the players. Murph may think if he agrees to this, his chances of receiving an injury increase , be it soft tissue or contact, preventing him from reaching his milestone. If he thinks like this, he's more likely to be conservative with his attack on the footy, as he has been doing so all season. If he refuses this ultimatum by Teague, to play with more hardness etc, a younger player who would jump at the chance to do so, should replace him. With 10 games left in the season, another way would be to make him medical sub in 5 of those games to reach his 300th.

Even if he is carried to 300 it is only another handful of games. In the overall context of the rebuild and where we are at this year how much difference is it really going to make on team performance and player development? Is a player like Walsh really going to watch murph and think **** it I’m going to do what he does and not give 100% (if that is what we’re worried about) No..Walsh is Walsh and any player that is influenced probably isn’t worth keeping.

One big difference with your analogy, we have to pay him anyway, sacked or not....

In the GAME of football, experience is still important and won't cost us any more money to have around...
Hmmm in the real world , you can demote a Person and on the same pay and they usually get the hint their time is up , so banish him to reserves and achieve 2 things
Out of mind out of sight and he definitely knows the end is this year
Under this review, starting from next week there is 22 player that need to be selfless

Maybe he wanted to stay with us because he liked to cruise, knew standards would be higher if he went to a flag contender.

How would you know ? We have such an ungrateful fanbase.

If Cripps walks, I couldn't blame him because the likes of you will likely downplay his achievements.
You never know, our online slandering of Murphy, may have a bearing of whether the likes of Cripps or Harry re-sign with us or not ?

You ever stopped for a moment that our Murphy disrespect/slander could have a trickle on effect .

As I keep on repeating, loyalty is a two street.

My view is that if Murph gets to 300 he damages his legacy. Instead of being remembered as a club champion, he becomes remembered as the bloke who was gifted 300 (like Sam Newman) and wrecked the selection integrity of our club and cost us promising players who have been starved of opportunity.
Please don’t get me wrong, I love the loyalty and commitment he has showed across a wonderful career. There is nothing wrong with falling short. You are still regarded as a champ. Ask Lenny Hayes and Matthew Boyd.
Does it really matter now? Get him to 300 and be done with it. Let him have his day in the sun and hopefully inspire a victory.

Haven't seen the Blues play angry for a long time. When I say play angry, I mean come out p*ssed off and just refuse to accept defeat. That is why I loved Mitch Robinson...There were days when you could tell he wasn't going to accept defeat. Carlton circa '79-88 were very similiar.

I'm sure Cripps and Big H monitor the Carlton board on BigFooty to decide their incredibly lucrative contracts.

Bloody hell Crippa you see what those campaigners are saying about Murph I'm out.

I would be very surprised if the players at all factored what Carlton supporters giving their opinions about would mean to them in terms of their contracts.

Cripps + Big H re-signing entirely dependent on how they see the direction of the club and their own personal feelings towards club/how successful we might be etc.

Loyal to a point, when I became a member/supporter of Carlton I didn't swear complete and utter allegiance to Captain Carlton.

Respect is a two way street too.

I'm jealous of the people on here who got to see and enjoy the golden premiership years back then - been watching a lot of old games recently - there was never a soft dud wearing the navy blue on the field back then - they were all contested animals - and the kicking skills ...what stands out to me was the one handball one kick thing that was so characterstic - no mucking around.

those late 70' early 80's teamss would beat our side today by 20 goals.

95 side would beat us by 30

ahh the days of going to the footy and expecting to win!!
Now my adult kids who have seen no success x talk about what’s a good losing margin and then are shocked when we win

Recall from somewhere that he was interested in player recruitment

Can’t believe I’m reading so many posts saying just get home there, what’s another 5 games to the rebuild, he deserves it as he was loyal, etc. He is now a below average player, with a way, way below average work ethic. He doesn’t deserve to be the 6th member of our 300 club, because he was a great player for his first 200 games and a very good one for the next 50.

Some people here have short memories.

Yes, I am the first to admit Murphy is probably cooked as a player, probably has been for 18 months, and has been out of form for much of the season and I have lost patience with him at times during that time

BUT

Do we not owe a loyal and fantastic club stalwart, dual best and fairest winner and All Australian player some kind of respect, dignity and loyalty that has given us over the journey ?

He could have left several times for more money and team success throughout his career, but he stood loyal with us.

He was a Captain, not a great one but a good one through some of the darkest years in our club's history.

Given the years of great service and LOYALTY, Marc Murphy has given our club during the darkest years of our club's history, he fully deserves to make the 300 game milestone and retire on his own terms.

Marc Murphy is a True Blue Carlton person who has bled for the club and stuck by it through thick and thin.

Alas I cannot say the same of some 'supporters' here and on social media who cannot seem to recognize all the sacrifices and hard work he has given to our footy club.

Sorry, but Murph cruelled his own legacy by the conditional, half hearted way he has played for the last 5 years or so. He may well have been a VV good player in is first 150 games or so, but he has poisoned the club by his actions on the field since, and I include seasons when he was the worst
Captain we have ever had.
He didn't leave because he knew he couldnt play the half arsed football he has given us at any other club. He is a disgrace in the way he sets example for the youngsters, by hack kicks off the ground when he should commit, or ****, I might get tackled' hospital handpasses. Absolute disgrace to the Navy Blue.

nah, just drop him...permanantly.

I can think of dozens of players better than Marc who never made it to 200 games for a variety of reasons. The fact he has made it this far is a reflection of how low the standards have slipped at Carlton.

A perfect summary right here.
A huge black cloud leaves with him at seasons end.
Those responsible for allowing the shameful charade to get this far need to be outed by the current review and thankfully that looks to have already begun …
