I smell a cover-up.
He actually has an injured quad.
However, due to the stigma attached to quad injuries he'd rather admit to taking a painkiller.

Agree with this, if it was the Dogs or St Kilda then I reckon the AFL would throw them to the wolves and move on.

Essendon mean too much commercially to the sport, I imagine the same would be the case if it was Collingwood, Richmond or the Hawks.

There will be lots of wringing of hands and a lot of soft action taken. Strong words, empty actions.

Yeah, The Peptides Bummers being 1 of the Big 3 Clubs would mean the AFL would lose too much Money IF they banned the players for 2 years as they should.

They will come up with some Crap to get them Off or give them 3 weeks at the Most.

They are doing it just before the Season Starts so the Media and Public can hopefully be Distracted by the new season Starting

IF this was Collingwood everyone would be calling to have us Kicked out of the AFL

Bombers remain confident on players
FOURTEEN days from a verdict on doping charges, Essendon chairman Paul Little and coach James Hird declared the club was confident the players would be cleared.

D-day in sight a relief at last, says Essendon's Dyson Heppell

They'll have them back just in time for ANZAC Day, would be a massive commercial success - they'd mark it as the return of the Brave Peptide Battlers.

That is what I am expecting and they make the Peptide Bombers look like the Good Guys

If guilty they need to be banned from the first and second round of the draft without being able to trade into it

It's a good question popin. Essendon were punished already as a club but for governance only.

ASADA are currently only looking to penalise the players however if the players are found guilty then there is then proof that the club has in fact cheated. Even if you believe it was not their intention and they thought it was legal, they would have enabled the wrong people to push the boundaries which lead to cheating.

The first penalty was for poor governance but the AFL would surely need to give more club penalties if any player is found guilty

IIRC, it was for bringing the game into disrepute? (Which poor governance contributed to ...).

I'd imagine double jeopardy rules (can't punish someone for the same crime twice) would prevent the AFL from punishing Essendon further?

They will make Essendon sing cheesy jingles flogging toasters and vacuum cleaners? ...

Hey vjknight (or anybody else who has been following this closely) a few questions about this court case ...

- What role do the AFL have in this case?

- Are the AFL paying for anything to do with this case? If so, what are they paying for?

- How many judges are presiding over it?

Why tag me.

In the case......none. But they will determine the penalty. And if WADA or ASADA aren't satisfied its off to CAS.

Not paying for anything at present.....officially at least.

Three.

Yeah I remember it being bringing the game into disrepute too however I also remember the AFL going to pains to state that they are not being punished for taking illegal substances as that has not been proven, but because of how they went about this program and poor governance.

I don't think it is likely that the club will be punished again to be hones, at least by the AFL.

If found guilty and they miss like 12 games and finish last because of this ban, you cant reward them the number 1 draft pick or even a top 10 draft pick.
It's not fare on other clubs that would of finished lower than them if they weren't banned from cheating.
The afl will have to give them more draft penalty's other wise they could just tank the last few rounds to make sure they get the number one pick just for a reward to get something out of the year.
This would be penalty's for cheating injecting illegal drugs supplements not governance.
If the afl don't punish them enough then asada will step in again is what they said.

Fair point

The AFL can only punish Essendon within the rules of the AFL. In their wisdom, the AFL have a generic catch-all rule about "bringing the game into disrepute" which they've already prosecuted.

If the AFL are going to punish Essendon for something, then they would need to find something new to punish them for.

Does the AFL have specific rules against clubs engaging in systematic doping? Maybe they do.

If the afl don't punish them enough then asada will step in again is what they said.

ASADA have said they'll step in if the AFL don't punish the players enough. I don't believe they've said anything about the club.

Essendon aren't on trial at all - it's the individuals, the 34 players (and IIRC one official)

What happens to Essendon (as a club) is probably outside of ASADA's jurisdiction or care.

If Essendon have their players banned and finish last as a result, I would expect that their draft position would be end of round or mid round. They can't be completely stripped again, they've already had that punishment handed to them, but I doubt the AFL would give them the reward of a number 1 pick after having the majority of their list banned. It would be horrible PR. As big as Essendon are, there are 17 other clubs whose supporters need to be appeased to, and there would be a massive stink kicked up about the Dons being handed the best young prospect in the country as a result of player bans.

Does anyone know if the players are banned whether they can still legally be paid by Essendon?

If players are out for a season and as a result have loss of income then that would probably coerce a few more players into takin legal action on the club. If they still are paid to take a year off then you would still be angry but at least you have an income.

Fair point
We don't wanna see the dee's, the dogs, etc etc on the bottom of ladder for ever so they deserve the top pick sense the afl if all about
fairness these days. eg, the luxury tax that will stop runaway football department spending in the name of fairness.
If i was st kilda i would be pissed off if they don't punish essendon like they did to Ahmed Saad.
Do you think this Ryan Crowley incident has came at the wrong time for essendon??
magpie girl and co should talk about this on the next podcast about essendon losing there first and maybe second round picks or moved back to end of the round.

They only missed one draft as in 2013 and this draft 2014 they where aloud to trade into the first round getting two picks so they didn't really get banned at allmuch.
If you compare it to the crows and the blues bans years agoto essendons apex36, what is your view on fairness ??? Was the afl being soft because it's a big club that brings in money as i like reading what you post?
