That alone should have immediately disqualified her from being considered, on the grounds that she totally lacks good judgement.

Yeah, if only her associations were with such luminaries as Credlin and Bolt.

Les get one thing straight she was not appointed, nor was she elected. They drew up a list of 90 and left the members out of the process; again, by the use of casual vacancy. The board is bloated as it is, they could have left the position vacant until the end of the year and let the members actually vote, show they were different to McGuire.

And the board should be made up of Collingwood supporters, its our club, its not some PC bulldog supporting persons club. As for comparisons to Lethal, Tommy etc, please they are paid professionals, this is an non paying honary role. It should be filled by people who love this club. The passion at Collingwood is dying, you can see it in the stands, look at the pathetic excuse for a cheer squad. fu** me, Collingwood, what the hell are you? Jock is spinning in his grave.
Are you in the cheer squad?

I remember writing some time back that alex waislitz should leave the board, and I got comments that board positions didnt really matter much. How times have changed.

From a quick look around bridie's past, she is going to be keenly interested in the women's teams at the club, so I expect them to be better resourced in the future, and the money might have to come from the men's side of things. The men might have to give each other massages after the game, if the AFL deems that appropriate.

Have you worked out how you will fill the void in your life created by AW's departure? Who is the next target?

Diversity in teams really does give you the best outcome.
Upon what evidence do you base this statement? What kind of diversity? If you mean diversity of thought and opinions I would agree. But most people who speak of the importance of diversity simply mean more women or greater racial diversity. I am always confused by the assertion that more women or more coloured people on a board brings a better outcome. Are they suggesting women or coloured people all think differently from a white male? That seems to be a prejudiced idea. I am sure there are many women and people of colour who agree with some white males on a range of issues and in fact an all male or all female board my have more diverse thinking than a board with six different racial backgrounds.

So this current obsession with appointing more women is silly. As I've said so many times in order to pre-empt the barrage of accusations of racism and sexism, I would be delighted to have an all women board if everyone of them was a passionate Collingwood person with a deep love of the game and the acumen and creativity to spark new initiatives and ways of improving the club's on field performances and attracting more members. I recently said I cant stand Korda and the words he has spoken since being appointed President have been uninspiring, box ticking BS. Yet nobody accused me of being a man hater or misandrist. Funny how that works. Criticize a man and that's all you are doing. Criticize one woman and you clearly hate all women and you are only attacking her because she is a woman and you are a cellar dwelling creepy misogynist.

If we were going to get a non Pies supporter, we should have targetted Jono Brown. He was a bloody good player and you don't get a voice like that without some serious equipment.

Ha ha. I hated him as a player, but only because he was so good, and also because I sat through those two losing grand finals. Grrr. For the second one, I got my ticket through a relative who was a Lions member. So I was sitting in the Lions members block. Was a special kind of hell as they won their third flag.

But these days I don’t mind Brown. Plus he’s from Warrnambool and my family is from Port Fairy, so we could be related. Every one is in the blustery south-west. :D

Not particularly thrilled that we now have a board member who as little as 5 years ago described a Collingwood win as a travesty. But if its the best appointment for the club then I can live with it. My question is when did she become a member and why?

She is an opportunist gold digger , simple . smart career move, highest exposure at the biggest club in the land. her appointment to the Collingwood board will look fantastic on her CV.

O’Donnell said on 3AW, she’s been a member since February 2020 (15 months ago).

Looks like the club has relied upon paragraph 30(b) of the club constitution to appoint her, but it still makes me wonder why they needed to circumvent 30(a).

From the club Constitution:

30. QUALIFICATION FOR BOARD MEMBERSHIP

(a) Subject to paragraph (b), no member shall be qualified for election as a member of the Board unless he shall have been a member of the Club for at least twenty four (24) months immediately prior to his nomination.

(b) The Club in general meeting may pass an ordinary resolution waiving compliance with paragraph (a) in respect of a particular member, and if such a resolution is passed, the member shall be qualified for election as a member of the Board.

Your digital courage is strong. Wonder whether you would have the gumption to say that to her in person?

Bridie is 5'10, strong with a good reach. And anyone who even attempts the Hour Record (let alone getting it) has more than a little crazy in them.

That paragraph (b) was an amendment created to allow for Waislitz to come onto the board. Were you upset then?

I was 4 years old when he was appointed.

If I was old enough in 1998, I would have opposed the amendment.

well i was thinking of taking part in more word association threads...

i'd like to see more people get on the board who are elected but that will take time and not necessarily give better outcomes - however, the distinction between AFL and other sports is that we dont have ownership and the presence of people like alex waislitz on the board unelected for 22 years, doesnt really embellish that difference.

Korda has seemed to have got his act - and his board - together in a relatively short time....which is a good thing. We expect the arrival of the white knight and what happens then...

We should have got a well hung Collingwood supporter who couldn't possibly personally benefit from being on the board.

I think it was said earlier that alex waislitz was appointed to the board with eddie ....and they had to change or waive the rules. However, I'm not sure if Alex used his status as a carlton member to argue that he already qualified.

Just heard Bridie say the most impressive thing about our club was the fact we have a netball team and a commitment to women's sport. I have heard all I need to hear.
The way the men's team is going, the netball team and the women's team will take over as the club's core business very soon.
