Give it a rest mate. Everyone knows dusty is a shy character normally and to stand up infront of 1500 people and talk showed great courage. Was obvious he was very nervous I thought he did well. Some people need to get over their hatred for him that was driven by the media recently because he is just a young kid who loves playing footy and from what I can see clearly loves the Richmond football club. He has given all Richmond supporters great pleasure over the last few years and will continue to do so for many more years to come, the least you could do is support him.

You didn't listen to his speech obviously! Read between the ass kissing lines where he said it was his idea to talk to other clubs, yeah he really loves richmond!

Nice to have him tucked away ... a painful experience for everyone involved but perhaps a sobering and maturing one for him ... he has a better understanding and perspective on the importance of the nature of the persons personal values and that just having ability is not always enough.

While it may well have been a valuable lesson in personal discovery I hope he remembers in the end who put him through this unnecessary painful experience and makes the wise decision.

yeah your right, he spoke like a young man who's a bit nervous and having to deal with fame, fortune and pressure and expectations was a bit edgey, its not everyday a 22 kid signs a million dollar contract after getting so much erratic advice so maybe you should cut the crap and stop trying to be an internet bully behind his back.

Dealing with fame and fortune lmfao! He doesn't think what he his getting now is much if a fortune or else he wouldn't have shopped himself around would he!

I'm not being so forgiving, deal with it!

He's speech seemed to back up everything Leon Cameron said he told GWS. Loves Richmond, doesn't really want to leave but his old man being in Western Sydney was also a big pull for him.

I'd say the Essendope shitheads were just trying to throw a late spanner in the works because - well, because they're Essendope shitheads. Probably think they still "owe" us for Houli & Helbig.

Was it Martin shopping himself around, or Carr just doing it?
as far as I know Martin only personally met with GWS, which he admitted to at JDM, that was his own choice because he needs his father. Which if you hate him for, you're an idiot IMO
that issue was solved by his father now moving down to Melbourne to be there for him

Give the kid a break. It's well publicised that he feels uncomfortable doing any sort of media work, so standing up there in front of 1,550 people after coming second in our b&f AND after the events of the last two weeks would have made him extremely nervous. It was obvious it was almost painful for him judging by his body language.

Kudos to him firstly for toughing it out up there, for a kid brought up in a tough-as-nails environment you could see he was struggling not to tear up in front of everyone.

Secondly I commend how honest and open he was when he spoke about going up to have a look at GWS. I don't doubt him anymore - that was about as raw as you'll get from anyone. To take the full responsibility for it, especially in front of all those people (including a national broadcast) openly showed a lot of guts and certainly a lot of heart, and to open up about needing to have his Dad close for support was courageous indeed. He obviously needs his family, and I don't blame him. I think we'll see a pleasant change with his Dad moving down here to support him next year.

Good on you, Dustin. Onwards and upwards from here.

(PS if you're not going to sack Ralph Carr AT LEAST sack your hairdresser! Woeful.)

Very good post mactier! Agree 100% with all of this. Not everyone has the gift of the gab folks...

Thanks for resigning him, we're even now. All is forgiven:thumbsu:

That's not even close to being funny. Elitist crap.
Actually found it on dusty's twitter account, so hope that means he is not offended by it. Don't know if he meant it to be elitist crap....

Feel sorry for dusty having to stand in front of so many people last night, obviously a struggle to talk in public. Perhaps someone can write into his contract that he doesn't have to speak in public when he wins the jd!

Didn't see the awards last night so this isn't a reflection on Dusty, but more of a general observation.

It's generally easier to talk to a large crowd than it is a smaller group of 10-20 people. With the larger group you focus on a light (or something) in the background and talk to that, the people are a bit of a sea of nothing. In some dim auditoriums with bright lights you can't even see most of the crowd (amateur theatre experience). When you're talking to 10-20 people though you actually have to engage and constantly make eye contact (professional experience).
