G'day eDPS,

Just wanted to register my thought on Jackson Callow, he is by far best Tasmanian to come out of the draft since Kade Kolodjashnij. I keep seeing people comparing him to Brody Mihocek but he's more like Aaron Francis for mine.

Will be a top 10 player in this draft 5 years into his career IMO.

Loved reading your stuff.

Cheers.

Do you know if the NT lads can opt out of the GCS NT Academy and place themselves in the open draft...i.e. get on a club's main list via the National Draft and get thev guaranteed 2 years?
Yeah they can turn down the offer to be pre-listed, there were rumours Rosas would do it last season, and Jeffry this year

If I was one of the higher profile lads I'm bloody well sure that's what I'd be doing unless the GCS guaranteed a spot on their main list.
I hope Brodie Lake takes that option.... ;)

They’re not signing base rookie contracts. They are being prelisted and negotiating their contracts.

We have guys on our rookie lists who signed three year contracts, but remained on the rookie list until we had to upgrade them.

Oscar MacInnerny was our latest player we did this with.

We signed Tom Fullarton to a three year contract, when he signed as a Cat B rookie. We’re upgrading him a year early.

Don’t believe these kids managers are going to let them miss out on what would have likely been their contract value had they been drafted in the National Draft.

At Lions, we use the rookie list as a salary management tool, rather than actually drafting kids on to it. I dare say GC will be doing the same.

I'd be a big fan of that, has athletic bolter type written all over him
You can take him , i heard only take Alex Davies and Jeffery so far. Not sure what they going to do with pick 27. Maybe take lake or Adelaide can take him at 21,21 .

Hey draft gurus.

At what points yearly do players go from being a name:?

Worth looking out for.
Worth considering.
Right in the mix for drafting.
Talked about as possibly suiting a club’s needs.
Can you explain a bit further please.

I know the Lions have answered the last question in past draft focused podcasts in regards to previous drafts.

For example, last year the club considered its first three picks in the zone of drafting best talent on the clubs draft board.

When Coleman was bid on earlier than expected, we traded for a late pick to draft in a position of need.

I would imagine most clubs draft boards do have a strong element of list needs influencing their order.

Especially outside of what’s considered the top tier of a draft.

Also the Lions have a big board after each years U16 Championships, and update it throughout the next two years.

I imagine talent and performances influence when a player is added to the board.

For example, the Lions mentioned first tracking Ely Smith in his draft year, after his preseason game against Jye Caldwell and the Bendigo Pioneers.

So that should give a lot of Victorians hope, as preseason games do make an impression on recruiters and scouts.

Nope not this year but he had a very strong pre-season and looked set to put his name back up recruiters minds this year. Look forward to seeing him as a 19 year old next year
Any other players that impressed in the pre-season that you don't think will get drafted but could put their hands up as 19 year olds next year?

Yes they can definitely decline to be pre listed.
What we aren’t sure of is the clubs obligations past year 1.
Can they stay on the rookie list OR must they be upgraded to main list.
If you’re not highly rated you could understate the relative comfort that pre listing offers.
Not sure how comfortable I would feel with a club saying ‘we will DEFINITELy draft you with our last pick.

we’re very lucky to have access toa number of potentially draft worthy academy kids this year in Davies, pescud, Fyfe, gore.

hope we end up with Davies, Jeffrey, lake, pescud but will come down to list spots.

Most of them did get selected for the combine like Heath, Cleary, Kolar and Rosman but of those who didn’t get combine invites.

Lachlan Riley
Will Hart
Dylan Thomas
Rhys Seakins
Jackson Bowne
Lochlan Godden

Released today Pie 4 Life ?
Next Monday the 30th. It's 99% complete, we're doing the last page atm, then will do a final read through. By end of day / tomorrow morning it should be 100% done, just then allowing for any minor changes (pick trades etc. that will impact the draft picks page) and then released prime time Monday at 8pm.

I am hoping very soon because I thought it was originally meant to be yesterday? That's a page we have too and there's a lot of ??? about them at this stage. Surely by tomorrow I'd think.
