I am hoping very soon because I thought it was originally meant to be yesterday? That's a page we have too and there's a lot of ??? about them at this stage. Surely by tomorrow I'd think.
Yep, the closing date was yesterday and the clubs don't seem to be in rush to notify their supporters officially.

Yeah I'm more interested in the fringe ones than anything else, just to know if to include them on the list.

Do the same rules apply to the nga kids as the Northern academy kids?

We can only nominate academy kids who played at the National Championships.
I think they can nominate any NGA, but they either say main draft or rookie or not at all. So main draft have an option to match in main draft (but have to take them with the last pick), rookie (get them rookie but if a club bids main they get them), or just open draft no matching capabilities.

Interesting that if you nominate an nga kid, you’re committed to drafting them in the National Draft with your last selection.

I’m considering a bit of a bolter into my top 25. I think this name will surprise a lot of people, going back and watching Victorian footage has convinced me that this kid should be in top 30 consideration.
??

When's the big announcement or have I missed it? :)

That's 100% untrue.

NGA kids who you nominate and are not selected in the main draft are automatically made Cat B rookies.

That’s what I thought, but I was confirming what Pie 4 Life said.
Maybe it’s father-sons I’m thinking of? I know that there was definitely a rule in place that if you nominate a player in the main draft you have to take them. You could nominate them for the rookie draft and get them free but if they got picked in the main draft then they were free game.

I’ll go back and have a look because I remember instances of this happening.

Yep, confirmed I've got my wires crossed.

"8.8 Father/Son Rookie Pre-Selection (a) Subject to Rule 8.8(b), where an eligible Father/Son Player has been nominated in accordance with Rule 8.4(b) and is not selected at a National Draft or PreSeason Draft Selection Meeting, the Club with whom he is eligible as a 57 Father/Son Player may include him on its Rookie List prior to the Rookie Draft Selection Meeting in accordance with Rule 10.4."

Just out of interest, what’s the source you got this from? I’ve looked before for a definitive ‘Draft Rules’ and haven’t been able to find it, have just had to go off articles that mention specific rules.

Interesting it says you MAY include them on the rookie list. I don't think you are thus compelled to.

Yeah it’s only if you nominate them for the National you have to take them with the last pick. An example is Josh Daicos now I think about it. No one bid and Pies had to take him with their last pick. Whereas Jackson Edwards was a case of nominating for the rookie draft (and he made it there) but if someone had bid on the national, there was no way for the Crows to match.

Crows nominated Ben Jarman for the ND and took him in the rookie draft when he wasn't bid on, so you don't have to take them in the ND.

Was that for the ND? It just says nominated him and too early to determine list positions. Could they have nominated him for the rookie without specifying? Genuinely curious because the rule that changed the season before that was the one I believe to be in use today.

Almost 100% it's the ND.

“There are no guarantees for us or Ben,” Reid said.

“We will be true to our talent order and there is still plenty of work to be done between now and the national draft (on November 25)."

No guarantees means it's not the rookie draft, and talk of the ND too

I've gone to look at the 2020 AFL Draft Guide booklet and this is the page.

Down the bottom to the right it says "If no bid is made by another club the club that nominated the Father-Son eligible player will forfeit its last selection in the draft."

This is what I've always been going off/believe and this is in the official Draft booklet for nominees.

The only change to my top 25 next week will be the exit of Kaine Baldwin who undeniably could have been a top 10 selection if he got a free run with injury but with two ACL effected years in a row I just can’t see him getting taken early if at all this year and clubs should rightly wait and see how he goes next year to see if he can play a full season before getting picked on an AFL list.

I still see him as Jack Darling 2.0 and I really hope he does get an injury free season next year whether as a drafted player or not I’ll be tracking his progress. The addition to my top 25 will be Northern Knights tall Liam McMahon who I haven’t spoken about much this year.

The draft from 20 onwards for me is really close and there isn’t a lot separating these players at all, in such an even draft crop we will very likely see some bargains being taken in the 40+ range and perhaps some players taken in the 20s who will struggle to live up to their potential.

I’ve done my own rankings which won’t come out here that includes 70 players I’d be happy to draft so it isn’t without its quality per say but plenty of players especially from Victoria that could have really squashed queries or enhanced their draft stocks. The likes of Rosman, Heath, Carrigan, Kolar, Cleary, Allison ect are all players that could have really pushed their case not just for the draft but as top 30 talents and some clubs could still take that risk this year it’s hard to know in a draft year like this.
