browne, johnson out

betts, garlett in

lets hit them with a three pronged small fwd blitz. if we can apply the pressure we did to the crows in the 1st quarter yesterday we will go a long way to winning a final.

we just dont have the stocks down back atm so might as well take a risk to try and WIN the game.

we've responded well this year after a big loss so im expecting us to be all guns blazing next week.

WE'RE IN THE FINALS!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D

Out: Browne, Johnson, Hampson

In: Warnock, Grigg, Betts, (Garlett?)

Tough call on Hampson, but Warnock's a better option right now. He'd kill Clarke in the ruck, and give our midfielders first use of the ball.

I don't know what you were watching yesterday, but Hampson and Kreuzer were dominant and were all over the Adelaide ruckman.

There's no way they will drop Hampson for Warnock. The only chance has is if they feel Carlton should play 3 talls with Kreuzer up forward.

Forget last week.

The bottom eight sides would take a thrashing like that if it meant they were playing finals this week.

Despite encouraging reports and a good game from Warnock, I wouldn't bring in another ruck for this game. I would go with just Hampson and Kreuzer who have earnt a shot after getting to 13 wins.

Brisbane's rucks are Brennan and Clark.

To promote another tall, we would have to drop Setanta for Warnock and change our forward structure.

Select more run and pace for the longer Gabba ground.

Brisbane aren't a quick side and lack quick small defenders, so we're a good match up for them.

Betts, Yarran and Garlett could cause some damage if given space.

Brown is obvsiouly a huge danger, but the Lions lack the ground level goal kickers that cut us up yesterday.

Joseph to Rich with Hooper out...

Walker to Sherman this time around.

Grigga to follow one of their sweepers around.

I hope SG works harder and doesn't chase kicks like one of his predecessors who wore the no. 16 jumper.

 :(

Out: Johnson Wiggins Browne
In: Grigg Betts Garlett

Russell to Johnstone again. :thumbsu:

Suppose, on the bright side, we've beaten our next two prospective opponents given we've beaten Brisbane twice and Geelong and the Bulldogs comfortably. To go further we've beaten one prospective preliminary finalist once in two games and had a run of wins over them until last time, and of the other we lost by a narrow 9 points in one of the games of the year after Houlihan kicked for the winner late. Then to go further................

Of course we best hope that continues and we win next week!

Also happy Adelaide is in the opposite end of the draw!

Is it time to make some more radical changes? We don't have a 3rd defensive tall right now because of injuries to Austin, Waite and Jamo. Why not push Setanta to CHB, Kruezer to fulltime CHF, and use Hampson and Warnock as the rucks? 4, 200cm+ players might be a little top-heavy, but Kruezer is an abnormal 200cm footballer. Why not include Yarran, Betts and Garlett in the same starting 22? With Warnock and Hampson in the middle, we should dominate the taps, then our midfield talent will get first use of the ball. Having Eddie, Yarran and Garlett at the feet of Kruezer and Fev could cause absolute nightmares for the Lions defence. :)

I agree Parrot, I think play Kreuzer deep forward (not sure who Lions have) to match him, If the need arises and we need him in the ruck i believe Warnock might also cause some problems deep forward. Time to be proactive to get the game on our terms particulary with the possibilty that their defense might be depleted.

Every chance you will have your wishes granted there.
I wouldn't be completely surprised Warnock coming in. We'd be taking some chances with such inclusions, but we'd be taking more chances sitting on our hands.
Roll the dice, Blues.

I'm not 100% convinced we can have 4, 200cm players in the one side. But now is the time to unleash the talent big time. We only have one shot at this. If we fully relieved Kruezer of his ruck duties, his height and athleticism up forward would stretch the Lions defence, and they might even have to push Bradshaw down back. Hampson and Warnock would make Clarke's life very very hard as well. Will we still have enough run in the side? It's always a balance. Reckon we should load up with the best talent available and just go for it. If we get through this one, we'll be playing Floodingwood at the G the following week which should be an easy win. :)

If Austin isn't fit then I think we need to bite the bullet and send Setanta to FB this week.

With that in mind either Warnock could come in and Kreuzer push forward.........or Cloke come in as a forward.

I think we can stretch them down back as Merret is unlikely to play, Patful is sore, and they may not have Bradshaw or Drummond either...........add Black as doubtful and our injuries start to look a bit better.

Betts for Johnson.

Maybe Garlett for Yarran. Yarran was better than his previous games, but Garlett is constant with his pressure, and seemingly surer with his goal kicking. I thought Yarran should have kicked another 1 or two with opportunities that he had.

Betts and Garlett will be busting a gut to make up for their stuff up as well.

Ins: Austin (if fit) otherwise Cloke/Warnock, Betts, Grigg/Garlett
Out: Johsnon, +/- Browne and Yarran, Wiggo?

We need to get our structure right. Unfortunatly we are missing too many tall defenders and are basically stuffed struggling with out make shift ones. But we can get our midfield structure and forward line structure right.

Not sure on who to drop out of Armfield and Houlihan.

It's time to bring Warnock in, play Kreuzer forward and surround some big tall targets with 3 of our best small forwards and for the first time combine Betts, Garlett and Yarran.

We missed our small running forwards and the Bulldogs have shown that you need a fair few quality small forwards. The crows exploited our lack of small running forwards with countless "12 point" turn arounds. Small forwards don't work unless you have a "team" of them. Up in Brisbane it's likely to be wet and stacking the side with small forwards might be crucial.

Our midfield has Judd, Gibbs and Murphy. It's the others that need to play well for us to win. Grigg must come in and play the inside role vacated by Richard Hadley. We need plenty of run on the bench if we are to play 3 ruckmen. Joseph, Carrazzo, Grigg, Simpson and Stevens should be able to support the 3 main onballers and they must go through the middle more and take some of the physical toll so we have plenty left for last quarters.

Setanta must play. Must play forward for forward structure. 3 talls, 3 small quality genuine forwards. Our defence is struggling for talls. Setanta gives us an option for us to throw back. Thornton must play full back/CHB on Brown. Bradshaw and Bower will be the other key match up. Bradshaw beat Bower embarrisingly last time, but hopefully Bower has learnt from his misteaks. Bower is a worry playing out of the goal square. I would like to see Russell played on Bradshaw, I just recon Brisbane are going to target Bradshaw and Russell might have what it takes to play on tall forwards and play above his height which is fairly tall at 190cm.

Tell me that's a typo.

You meant Johnstone right?

Key Lions in doubt

Drummond (quad) and Black (hamstring) sustained injuries in the eight-point win over Sydney, while bookends Merrett (hamstring) and Bradshaw (quad) are taking longer than expected in their rehabilitation.

Voss was tightlipped on who would replace Black and Drummond, but revealed Matthew Leuenberger pulled up sore after his run in the QAFL, and like Jed Adcock, will not be considered for selection.

Key Lions in doubt

This post filled the day's quota of LOLz in one hit...

Fan****ing tastic.

Just like the last time Carlton came to the Gabba, they get gifted a massive platter of opposition injuries...

**** this sport.

Why do the footy gods look after this soulless, shameless club, completely lacking in integrity.
A tissue for whinging over soft tissue injuries?

The corpse of Fitzroy, Jonathan Brown via the F/S rule and the millions of dollars the AFL gave them is but a spectre...

Hopefully Murphy rubs some salt into the wounds...

Ins: Hadley(just a whisper) ; Betts , Cloke

Outs: Browne , C Johnston , Hampson ,

Armfield/Sherman
Brown/Thornton
Gibbs/Rich
Joseph/Power
Bower/Brennan
Judd/Black

A special guard has been made i hear for Hadley.

We need to get Gibbs or Stevens to take our kick ins....
