AFL Autopsy Elimination Final: Loss to the Weagles

The on going lack of steel is worrying. It encompasses everything, no desire to attack a ground ball, or take the hit in order to half a contest, no protecting the drop of the ball in the mark attempt, no intent with possession, no deep gut running, no conviction with the defensive roll over, complete void of blocking for loose team mates. Watching the West Coast players now is embarassing, the look like they've had a stroll in the park.

Who knows why we are so inept at all these things but I'd be starting with the leadership. A she'll be right character like Heppell isn't fostering unfaltering devotion and commitment to the team ethos. In addition flakes like Merrett and Fantasia shouldn't be near the leadership group. Until we rectify the lack of steel from the leaders we'll continue to be lettuce leaf hard.

Full melt mode but I'd let the players who gave a **** tonight drive us forward. McGrath, Redman, Saad, Francis into the leadership group.

Ok we played shit and straight into their hands.

But I thought west coast played excellent. Almost, if not all their players performed all night.

Should have blown the siren after McGrath's 1st goal of the game. But seriously as it has been mentioned it comes down to personnel. We just arent good enough all round. Simple as that.

Personal is the least of our worries,
Coach is so past it. Game plan is shithouse, one dimensional and relies on about three players doing majority of the work.

Our leadership is shocking.

Sort those things out then we can address personal

Talking WCE players, Jack Redden fast moved up the punchable players list after his diving and theatrics tonight. Utter farce the acting he was putting on on two occasions.
Sad part is, he can play football and doesn’t need to do stupid s**t like that

Shuey is the king, lowers the shoulders with eyes darting for the umps... thank god Margetts wasn't there. Ryan in the first minute ****ing and kissing his shit for HTB was a highlight.

Am I wrong in thinking that the entire club needs a re-branding?

New coach, new leaders, new ****ing logo. We STINK of failure right now. We don't accept mediocrity, we embrace it. The club is rotten. Big changes needed this off-season. Another list is going to go to waste.

I knew we'd lose but we barely put up a fight for 3 quarters. Pathetic culture at this club.
I used to think that, but now I'm starting to feel the list is just shit and certain players are going to waste.

How can you win a final with Brown and McKernan as key forwards and a midfield that butcher every inside 50.....

Good luck Blake Caracella !!!!

Absolute deplorable Coaching and execution. Let’s lace out west coast players all night. So many missed tackles, no pressure. Pretty disappointing end to the season, too many passengers tonight. Kicking inside fwd 50 was at vfl level at best

Classic Essendon.

All year the side:

- Couldn't tackle
- Bombed it in to our forwards
- Got burnt on the rebound

It's no surprise that these factors ruined any chance they had.
Tackling efforts were absolutely terrible. Westcoast just walked past our players at times!

How the **** was Snelling one of our better players?

I love the kid, but it was his 7th(?)-odd AFL game.

We can’t return next year with Langford and Brown and Zakka on the senior list and expect to win. Teams that win finals don’t carry players like that.

Eagles were great tonight, but we should have been closer.

I just knew their fleet runners would kill us.

So many passengers. West coast are good though.

Ruckman top priority IMO. Belly wont take us forward.
To be honest, Merrett’s use of the ball tonight was more of a problem.

I was really impressed with one kick by Heppell tonight. For me that was an increase on most of his games.
^^This. Doesn't have penetration.

Eagles way too good. Their midfield monstered us.

How I would love a hill/Gaff/Yeo/Shuey. type at our club.

We weren’t great obviously, but heck we were stiff to have to play them over there, they are better than the 5th best team.

FFS, the sky isn’t falling.

Our team has been limping to the line for weeks and we were outplayed by a team that could quite easily still play in the Grand Final this year.

The loss sucks, but far out, this whole mentality is weak is just bullshit. What is the alternative? Burn the place down and start again?

The reason we lost tonight was poor ball use and not sticking our tackles when we needed too. The ball use is already been addressed for next year with the hire of Caracella and more times than not, our tackling game is quite strong.

We have improved as a side this year. We have had some terrible games, no doubt about that, but we are a much better side.

2020, depending on what happens coaching structure wise, I can see us getting two bites of the cherry to win a final. If we are smart on the trade table with moving on players of value for players that we need, I see the club being a team to beat next year. I really can.

I'm onboard with your "burn the place down" plan...
