I'm a bit concerned trading for Geelong pick 7 because With Walter and Read and McKay compo pick, Pick 7 then becomes pick 10. There is a clear gap between 10 and 11 but there is one player in the top 10 I don't think fits our needs.

The opportunity would be if Freo & Coll can't agree. We can be the white knight.

Otherwise, instead of Ginnivan how about Reef Mc....?
Wouldn't have interest in either. Ginnivan is an ordinary footballer and will be out of the system in the next 2-3 years imo. As soon as his ducking antics dried up he's been nothing short of mediocre in a team he should be excelling in

In what way is Ginnivan dynamic? Would be one of the least athletic small forwards in the competition
Athletic is entirely different to being a smart footballer.

And certainly, his role at the Pies has evolved since the likes of Hill have been added to the list.

No disrespect to Ginnivan to rank behind Hill and Elliot?

Being smart is entirely different to being dynamic. Matt Owies provides the exact same traits for us yet we cry out about a lack of a dynamic small forward year on year. Dynamic is Charlie Cameron or Zac Bailey.

Pies lose Adams, gain Schultz = immediate improvement for 2024
Essendon lose Zerk-Thatcher, Shiels, gain Gresham, Duursma, McKay = improvement
Saints lose Gresham, gain Shiels, Henry, Dow = slight improvement
Swans gain Grundy = improvement
Brisbane gain Doedee = improvement

Carlton lose Dow, Fisher, gain Hollands (not Hewett) = unknown

We are going to rely on natural improvement and the draft again. I hope we can swing something immediately useful in our best 22.
On trade radio Dodoro said "Shiels is staying at Essendon"

Carlton don't have any list spots, money or trade currency to bring anyone in...
List spots are only going to get tighter over the next few years...

Austin said we will target the draft this year and next... Looks like we are all in on this list and the draft...

Precisely, Schultz ain’t worth a first rounder. FMD

Loading up for next year when we have some more cash free'd up would be my guess. Add a Max Holmes or Zac Bailey to our list who are OOC in 2024 and that may be all we need to take the next step after another year of natural progression from the likes of Binns, Hollands, Kemp, Motlop, Durdin, Cowan, Cerra, Walsh.

I really hope Durds gets a good run at it next year, imo our most talented small forward and could make a big difference for us

That would likely get it done but once a player requests a trade to a club it generally excludes others from trying to jump in last minute

Im of this view but.

Freo have leverage here. If Collingwoods offer is crap, say 36 and we offered 16, Fre could say we aren’t trading you to Collingwood, you can see out tour contract or go to Carlton.

I think too many clubs moan they have no power, then just trade contracted players. Only a few have held players, I remember Swans with OKeefe, Swans with Paps, us with Gibbs, GWS with Mcarthy.

Courageous move to rely on the current list‘s natural improvement only, obviously our SC mobility remains a stumbling block.
Most teams around us are improving again in 2023 trade period and given will have a much harder game draw in 2024, it’s gonna be a challenge if some of our perennially injured break down again.
Hopefully there’ll be at least one surprise quality addition for us too, let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Really would not want Ash Johnson. Doesnt get up the ground and cant find his own ball. One trick pony who can run and jump if unimpeded. A player that scores goals in easy wins like the WCE. This year in losses struggled to score anything.

Don't want ginnivan either but he can at least hit a target inside 50. Some of our small forwards cant.

We were linked to Harmes a few weeks ago but I haven’t seen anything mentioned since, he is on the lookout for a new home and i think he would be a solid player for us but then i saw what he is reportedly owed by Melbourne, $500,000 next year.

Which raises the question. Will Melb need to pay someone to take him off their hands or will a club still cough up a 4th rounder?

Will there be a Bowes type deal this year?

The issue is more so that Freo supporters see him in a regard that Pick 18 or Pick 16 will not be enough.
