It wasn't amazing, but we kick a little better and them a little worse and we're up by 60 in the 3rd. Both teams got on top at various stages but the difference was we put in on the scoreboard (even if too many points).

We still just haven't quite clicked but I still feel like it could happen any game (no guarantee it happens this year of course).

If there ever was a template for JLO’s brand, this game was it.

We are really effective for defending post-clearance. There were a few moments Touk was out but Brayshaw ran him down and turned it over. That is us.

We also always seem to have a player peeling off the clearance directly towards goal, usually Young or Johnson. It looks amazing sometimes.

I think we are vulnerable trying to get it out of defence. Treacy cant be everywhere, Jackson isn’t marking anything at the moment and Amiss doesn’t have the strength yet.

Losing Pearce just killed the enjoyment of this game for me; in all honesty I would have rather lost that game than lost Pearce to injury. He has been huge this year.

Last thing, I dont watch WAFL but Davies looks a ripper.

I’ve only watched the last quarter but have seen the stats. I noticed Davies had only one handball for the home game and he was easily out pointed for Days goal in the last quarter, but most people saying he played well. His spoiling or halving contests must have been sensational in the first 3 quarters

Was surprised that he only had one. Thought he did ok for a first game. Gave away a few frees and lost a few contests, but was very aggressive and did half a few.

I feel like many are downplaying Darcy’s game, Witts is a monster ruck who would have destroy Jackson, Darcy won that contest and was crucial to us gaining good field position.
Grundy next week is a different type though, Jackson will need to spend more time in the ruck to keep up with him around the ground.
Darcy was pivotal, second best on ground for me. His fitness is building each week.

Fyfe wasn't too bad but did fumble a lot and went back to the" he man" tactics trying to burst out of every tackle. Not sure if his inability to play more inside mid minutes contributed to our midfield fade in the 3rd quarter. Seems unlikely if we actually played an extra mid as Justin suggested. I counted Bana's as as full time forward, not extra mid in this game though.

I posted this earlier on the game day thread.

I just noticed we didnt play Walters as he was injured today.

This game today showed us a sample of what our forward structure is like in a post walters era.

Anyone here confident about that?

If Walters retires at the end of this season, do we have a solid enough forward line to contend for finals from 2025 onwards?

The version of Walters we have this year can be more than covered with the list we have. His one touch aspect is irreplaceable, but I'm pretty certain his overall impact on the scoreboard can be replaced with a better athlete and the resultant increased forward pressure, purely given he doesnt get his hands on it enough anymore and isnt the tackle threat he once was.

Draft and trade potential makes me highly optimistic his absence wont be a showstopper.

There was a point in the 3rd where they said we had all of Brayshaw, Darcy and Serong on the bench.

That would not have helped us.

I'd love to see a basketball style +/- for AFL players could be some very interesting reading.

Does that suggest we need more quality depth in the midfield.? I thought Brayshaw was terrific today ( apart from some of his kicking), but can he be expected to do that all game, every week.?
