Midfield has actually been getting better as the season rolls on. Laird going in has changed the dynamic and MCrouch is getting serious form back.

Reckon we might see them play with a bit more freedom in the remaining games now - will be interesting to see what difference that makes.

There's no doubt that the threat of a winless season was hanging over them (all of us really).

Yes, well spotted, I saw but forgot about that. He hesitated when asked about Nicks, who gave and got a much warmer reception to/from Tex.

Ben Keays with 22 touches, 9 score involvements, 3 clearances, 0 turnovers and a goal. From 87% TOG.

Developing nicely into a really solid player and that was his best game for us. Proved he has more strings than just inside mid and can complement our other players

love how he runs in a straight line at the ball. No shirking from this guy.

Really good post overall, just nit-picking about Himmelberg. He contests hard which is really good, but those marks in the F50 aren't helping at all if he misses those goals and they go end-to-end for a goal (happens once or twice a game).

Loved these comments about Jones:

I mean, a goal or two would have been icing, but 16 disposals, 3 clearances and 4 marks from Himmelberg is a pretty damn good game.

At worse, it does prevent a quick rebound and allows a defence to properly set up so even a miss has some benefit to a side. Something we haven't been too crash hot with mind you.

Now, that might just be the best game Matt Crouch has played for us since 2017. Sure handballed a lot, but he finally looked like he was clicking with ROB, tackled and did all of the hard stuff. That Matt Crouch is worth keeping.
Brad was also huge. Led the way brilliantly. Hopefully he can get on a good run to cap the season off, would be a nice way to close this chapter.
O'Brien around the ground work was fantastic. Had a huge game.
That is by far the best game Elliot Himmelberg has played for this club. Was fantastic.
Stengle could end up a bloody good small forward for the next 10 years. Looking like quite the shrewd acquisition.
Sloane did everything but convert chances. That contract is going to be an albatross, but if we can eek out a year or two more worth of football like that, it
might have some value at least.
Jones picks up 13 disposals and 2 goals, and yet the play I really want to highlight was none of that. It was when he laid out the Hawks kid in the first with a bone crushing bump. To do that to a player of a side who have (deservedly) treated Adelaide with contempt in the past 15 years and from a player who has truly struggled this year was hopefully Chayces line in the sand moment.
Schoenberg has all of the makings of an elite footballer. The spin. The goals. The toughness. He'll be damn fun to watch over the journey.
Lachie Murphy for that brilliant bit of timewasting and the goal. Brilliant awareness.
I liked Fogarty and Sholls game. Nothing to really write home about but they had some nice moments. Same deal with Brown, Walker and Talia, did everything that was required and did it well.
Finally it was very good to see how much they all enjoyed winning that game.

Yeah, Poholke won't make it.
Kelly is also a liability.

Edit: And McAdam was so good I forgot to list him. Fast becoming my favourite player at the club, as much as he's Nick Gill reincarnate with his set shots.

Himmelberg still looks slow out there.

He's tall and a bit gangly still, very unlike RoB for clean possession.
Funny, isn't it? Golumless made a great post in general, but said Himmelberg was "fantastic".
I cringe at his goalkicking but think his contested work and bringing the ball to ground was strong tonight.

I think he will keep rotating the side. We need to give McAsey, McHenry, Hamill more games plus others. Sitting on our win and playing this 22 next week will do us no favours long term.

Good: finally getting a W and we can now put the record books away for longest losing streak, winless seasons etc. Oh, and Owen can GAGF too! You can see how important it is for morale just for 1 win. It was great to see Nicks smiling in the box, and finally sing the song. Plenty of long hard work ahead, but they will suddenly enjoy the game a bit more now. Stengle and McAdam are starting to make a good combination. They are both starting to show that they have gained self belief and they belong.


Bad: Our goal kicking in crucial moments. I mentioned this in another thread. When a team is at rock bottom confidence levels, it really is an energy sapper to miss early shots on goal, especially set shots 20m out straight in front. The heads can drop straight away.

Ugly: Poholke for mine. Can't see him here next year.

..still, kids were sent to Grandma’s and Mr BC had four days of the house to himself.. nothing but footy, beer, pizza and no nagging..

i was worried for her though.. nasty, nasty stuff that burst appendix thingy.. but in the end she came good after a few days..
