We win the rest of our games and give up pick 1

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com

Surely not, but I'd like to beat GWS so we get a higher pick for their first, and also Carlton. It's a sad state when their supporters are giving you rubbish. These will only be close wins or we lose to Rich by lots to keep our percentage below NM.

Will this still give us the no1 pick?

A few random observations, in addition to agreeing with most of the above:
(1) Mcadam just has football nous, even if he is a weakish kick for goal. The evidence for this is his tackling awareness: when one of three oppo players has the ball, and releases a handball to player 2, Mcadam charges at player three who is clearly going to recieive from player 2. He did this more than once and it worked well.
(2) Mackay had another very good game, not mentioned by anyone!
(3) I don't get the BCrouch love: I thought he had a completely ineffective game. Am I alone in noticing that, while he gets the ball a lot in close, he then mostly chooses to hold up and invite the tackle, then dropping/fumbling the ball to his brother's feet? His decision making seems to be pretty slow these days. He would have had time on many occasions to give an immediate, longer release of the ball to our advantage. He looked best on the one occasion, on the flank, when he roved a tap and made an incisive forward entry: more of that please.

Biggest laugh of the night: My wife is not a football afficionado, but she was impressed with the Schoenberg goal and me pointing out that he was only 17/18.
Later on in the match, she saw Mackay running down the flank and said "is that the 17-year old"? :)

He's tall and a bit gangly still, very unlike RoB for clean possession.
Funny, isn't it? Golumless made a great post in general, but said Himmelberg was "fantastic".
I cringe at his goalkicking but think his contested work and bringing the ball to ground was strong tonight.
Same player, 3 different responses.

I think it comes down to that i'm willing to write off a missed set shot if you don't fall into a heap because of it with a young player trying to establish themselves into a best 22 (we'll ignore the shot from 60 m because I thought Elliot was taking the piss having a go from there). Especially in a side that has gone 0-13 as we had up to that point, which probably means there are some demons there.

Himmelberg made up for it and then some with his efforts around the ground. Set shots will certainly need work, as well as Elliot really needing to lock himself in a gym but a game like that certainly shows he has a bright future if he can clean it up as a 2nd/3rd KPF.

Actually, good point, I do usually try to highlight when Mackay does play well (seeing I'm certainly one of his bigger detractors on this site) but missed him in my write-up. He certainly did the right things and saved a couple of goals.

One thing I noticed, Post-match and in the rooms the team looks extremely tight, They look like they're all super happy could just be the win but even noticed it in some of the videos posted on the Crows website as well. Looks like Nicks has mended a lot of broken relationships quite quick good on him for that.

I feel in a forward line with 3 quick small/mediums Himmelberg is fine as long as he kicks goals when he gets the opportunity. Just feel playing Fog, Walker and Berg is too tall as they all aren't quick. Obviously Walker is transitioning out but you can't play all 3. My only concern with Himmelberg is whether he has another gear or not against better teams. Just needs to get stronger and fitter and improve his kicking for goal. He should be recontracted but I would still take the best KPF in the draft.

History has been much kinder to the team with pick 2 than pick 1. After all, the only teams to win a premiership during the career of their pick 1 either grossly under-perfomed compared to their level (Brisbane 1998) or got it via a trade.

If we win the next three, take it and run. Pick 1 isn't worth sh*t compared to getting 4 wins into a relatively young side.

But we technically won't have pick 1 anyway as the WB will use it.

Unusual:
Sloane (pretty good game by him) post-game, looked lost, disengaged, maybe shocked?
Didn't look at Nicks when they embraced, barely smiled to Nicks and Kelly. Anybody else notice?

When Murphy goaled with about 5 and a half minutes to go, you can see Sloane in the background, wanting to celebrate but still not 100% convinced it was over. I think there’s a bit of shock after a season of unrelenting lows that he was sidelined for a long time and couldn’t do what he wanted to help his mates.

Huge relief. A winless season would have been a big stain on our clubs history.
119 point GF loss still remains as the biggest humiliation by an SA club 🙂
Not even a win-less season would have been worst than the 119 point Grand Final loss as no-one else will ever come close to doing that. When a club is 10 goals down they will flood and play slow so they don't get that new record. What was Mark Williams thinking, that's why Port Power supporters turn on him......

He was good because he wasn't beaten in the air and brought the ball down for McAdam, Stengle and Murphy so it should have been 3 same responses.

I don’t want to see Poholke again at afl level and I hope he isn’t on the list next year. I watch all the sanfl games too. He is too slow by physically and mentally for afl level. He is a good sanfl player because the game is slower, but unlike other slow players, he is a slow decision maker too.
He will be an absolute gun at the lower level but unfortunately just won’t ever translate that to AFL level

Mackay even did a sidestep tonight - never seen that all career before now.

Game high 8 Clearances
Game high 5 Centre Clearances
Team High 432 metres gained.

Take your Crouch blinkers off

Not to mention he was 1st up after a long break.

Elite:
ROB

Good
Stengle, McAdam, MCrouch, Sholl, Schoenberg, Keays, Laird all very good.

Bad
Poholke. Don't want to destroy him but please never play him again.
Jones did some good things but looks lost and panics at times. Needs to hit the gym as a priority. Has a fairly long way to go but something there to persist with.
Kelly. Usual sh*t. Needs to be traded.
Hartigan needs to be traded if we bring in a better back through trade or draft.
Talia and Brown a bit underwhelming but did their job . Need a bit more.
Himmelberg still looks slow out there. I don't know if he will make it. Please draft McDonald.
BCrouch. Did ok but a bit ineffectual.

Ugly

Wasting opportunities and players not giving first give.
BCrouch did more than ok lol. Game high 8 clearances and 400 odd metres gain. Not bad also from coming back from injury.
