Yes, well spotted, I saw but forgot about that. He hesitated when asked about Nicks, who gave and got a much warmer reception to/from Tex.

After reading your comment I was curious and so went and watched the post-match again. Obviously I was analysing it closely but didn't see anything indicating even the slightest discomfort or unease. Sloane was still being interviewed when Nicks reached and embraced the playing group so Sloane's embrace came a bit later. Sure, Tex was more enthusiastic but there was nothing in it. Also, after the song Sloane's and Nicks' interaction was just as I would expect.

I urge to you re-watch.

Himmelberg is fine as long as he kicks goals when he gets the opportunity. Just feel playing Fog, Walker and Berg is too tall as they all aren't quick. Obviously Walker is transitioning out but you can't play all 3. My only concern with Himmelberg is whether he has another gear or not against better teams.
Agree with all of that, at this stage of his game. He's gone from nearly-invisible/ineffective to a prominent player, making a difference.
He has just got to kick those goals from around 30m out, which is not another cog or gear, or AFL-improvement. It's basic-level, must-do.

McAdam > McGovern. I have to apologize to Reid as we clearly won that trade lol.
Just a pity the powers to be forced Reid to hand it all back & change for Gibbs.

For McAdam I think it's just been a confidence thing that he belongs at AFL level. Gives our forward line much needed X factor & like Gov can take a contested mark.

Better on the ground than KFC boy, faster, and can lay a tackle

That first goal he kicked was huge for his confidence. I commented after he marked it that he looked terrified - looked to give it off at first and didn’t look convinced that he had the ability to kick it. Not sure if a teammate got in his ear but once he kicked truly it looked he got a few mental demons out. Hopefully the first step towards being the player we need/want him to be.

Just to follow this up - I just watched this again, and you know who got over to him and calmed him down? 5 game veteran Lachie Sholl, before it looks like Tex races over to encourage him. Great sign from a young kid to get over to his teammate.

It just makes sense to me to do it. There's no way in hell that WB would pass it up, and it will take pressure off who we use our first pick on. So much (unfair) pressure on all no1 picks.

If a player is good enough (and lucky enough to come into a club which has sorted their shit out), they'll be fine.

The main reason not to is the $10k bonus given to the 1st round pick. Hopefully an insignificant drop in the ocean come the end of their career, but it's

Only a fool would disregard both an easy way to generate goodwill with a player as well as to reinforce that we have their best interests at heart. Especially for a club that has struggled with player retention, we need to maximise the goodwill from every possible angle.

Wrong trade. Most of the Lever trade collateral (in terms of 1st round picks, though we'd end up getting a 2nd back) went to acquiring Gibbs. The McGovern trade became McHenry (Sydneys 1st) + McAdam + no one (Carltons 5th round pick 2019) once all was said and done.

I think it comes down to that i'm willing to write off a missed set shot if you don't fall into a heap because of it with a young player trying to establish themselves into a best 22 (we'll ignore the shot from 60 m because I thought Elliot was taking the piss having a go from there). Especially in a side that has gone 0-13 as we had up to that point, which probably means there are some demons there.

Himmelberg made up for it and then some with his efforts around the ground. Set shots will certainly need work, as well as Elliot really needing to lock himself in a gym but a game like that certainly shows he has a bright future if he can clean it up as a 2nd/3rd KPF.
16 disposals, 4 marks, 5 score involvements and 3 clearances from one of your tall forwards is a good night. Yes he missed an easy set shot, but I’ve also seen him nail some nice set shots this season. Lots to build on into 2021 with Berg, one of our biggest positives of 2020.

Matt being back in form really makes a difference. His last few weeks has been back to somewhere near his best.

Not sure if he's had a talking to, or has finally adapted to our current lead ruckman, but whatever it is, we're clearly a better side for it.

That felt so good. Best feeling after a win since 2017.

Good:

Crouch brothers both had pretty good games. The whole midfield unit seemed to work well but you have to question the hawks. Very insipid.

ROB again. Thought he was beaten in the ruck contests and it wasn't a great game for him in that aspect (although he did smash a few forward which was good to see). Around the ground immense as usual.

McAdam has completely surprised me similar to Keays. I was never sure if he had enough tricks. Seemed like an almost player. He gets better with every game in every area of his game (goal kicking still an issue). Presents really well similar to Lynch. Getting surer in marking contests. Clever when the ball hits the ground and chases hard.

Schoenberg is a true footballer. Great pick up.

Stengle looking like another very handy pick up. I think he's way more polished than he's currently showing. Looks frustrated at times that he's making a few basic errors, but he's more than making up for it at this stage. Clever player with ball in hand and knows how to find it.

Thought himm had another decent game considering I'd drawn a line through him early in the year. Pretty good below the knees and is getting much better aerially.

Hope Talia can go again.

Credit to Mackay. Two good games in a row.

Think Sholl deserves a bit more love. Obviously needs more size, but far out his foot skills are ELITE. Like, elite that we haven't seen for a while in crows colours. Made some ridiculous passes tonight. We're desperate for foot skills.

Okay:

Jones got more involved. Still looks a bit skittish at times not knowing whether he should enter the contest. Hopefully that gave him some confidence. Good hit early on the hawks player.

Fog had some good and poor moments.

Bad:

Poholke was pretty much our worst player. Kelly had a bunch kicked on him but gunston is a very good player on the lead. Poholke looked genuinely below standard. I'd just give him the remaining games and then make the call. Who knows.

Here is what I see.
Take this team, swap McAsey for Hartigan. Swap Doedee for Kelly. Swap Hamill for Mackay. Swap Milera for Poholke. Swap MacPherson for Walker. Swap Pick 1 midfielder for Murphy. Swap Pick 2 Key position for Lynch.

Regardless of how you swap it around, there is the making of a decent and rapidly improving team there.

MacPherson Talia Sholl
Milera McAsey Doedee
Smith M Crouch Hamill
Holland (Pick 1) Himmelberg McAdam
Stengle Fogarty Thilthorpe/McDonald (Pick 2)

ROB Sloane Laird

INT: Jones Brown Schoenberg Keays

I might be crazy, but that team is ok. Obviously some of the guys will need time to get to the 50 game mark and really start to show what they can do, and in that time guys like Talia and Brown might have faded completely (we have replacements though). Also Holland might need time with his knee to rehab, so Lynch could still play a role for a bit.

stengle‘s an unusual one at the moment.

watching him all last year mainly in the sanfl and then seeing him in the AFL this year.. he’s missing shots on goal that he should be nailing.. and its mainly the really easy one’s for him. You can see it in the expression on his face after he misses too that even he cant believe he’s missed..

its also happening a lot more in the 1st quarters and with goals where he has a bit of extra time to think it through and that leads to him overthinking it and not allowing his natural ability to simply do the job..

its almost like he knows he’s now nailed down a permanent spot in an AFL 22 but he’s still starting games with a stomach full of nerves and it takes a few touches before he settles enough to overcome them.

just needs to get 30-40 games of experience under his belt i suppose.. he’s so evasive, opposition players just cant seem to get their hands on him once he’s got the ball. and when he doesnt have time to think and just lets his natural ability take over his goal sense is top notch..

reacon he’ll be a great player for us over the next decade.
