GEELONG 2022 TRADE PERIOD

Astounding that we can come off a Flag and pull off a Trade Bounty in the process.
Great response to our ageing list to bring in 3 young players plus P7 for the loss of some high picks and a promising young mid - take that every day of the week and twice on Sunday :)
We just seem to be a step ahead of the competition with the example of us courting Bowes for a while bearing fruit , plus Joel mentoring Clark and Busslinger making them think highly of the Cats.
Winners on and off the field :thumbsu:

Henry cost us:
  • Future 2nd
  • Future 4th
  • Pick 38, 48, 55
  • Cooper Stephens
Not cheap but in the context of our list and what we are doing it's not too bad. Ultimately, we'd have only used pick 38 in the draft while Stephens isn't going to get a lot of midfield time. If we add Conor McKenna we may actually use none of our 2022 picks beyond pick 7 (other than for rookie upgrades).

What would Cooper have been worth in a straight trade? 30s?

I think as a reasonable indicator:
  • Hawthorn was asking for a mid 20's pick for Mitchell and accepted Stephens, 41 and 50.
  • We traded pick 25 for 38, 48, 55 and a future 2nd+4th
Based on those two trades, for us to have gotten a good deal, we'd have to value him about pick 40. For Hawthorn to get a good deal, he'd have to have been valued about pick 30. I think both accepted a bit under as nobody quite had the right ammunition but everybody wanted the deals done except Collingwood.

we'd have only used pick 38 in the draft
Possibly, but given the shallowness of the draft this year, we'll probably still pick up whoever they have in mind later on in the draft or even in the rookie draft.

Cherry on top of a fantastic 2022 season.

This is not an embarrassing thread.
Like all threads we might still be embarrassed by it, but in terms of addressing our number one list issue - the wall, it's about a great an outcome as we could have ever hoped for.

If they ever write a textbook on afl list management I think Mackie might have just written the chapter on turning over old lists

He should really buy a powerball ticket at this rate

He gets to play 8-10 games to have the chance to save his career AND he doesnt have to have ken as a coach for 2023. Luck is definitely on his side lately.

Don’t forget the odd chance he may play in a premiership if we make it that far and if he’s good enough ;)
