Geelong break record for most wins in a decade

Don't really see how the two awful teams effect the finals.

What is being argued is that our side doesn't stack up to the other two sides mentioned because of grand final wins. Undoubtedly getting games against the Giants and Suns helps our winning percentage but it means nothing in the context of how many flags we've won. Plus our flags came before free agency anyway so again I don't see by what measure it is relevant.

The grand final wins aren't in dispute because you have less. That's clear. What I dispute is that the OP is a worth while comparison at all because of differing circumstances.

That Cats team was a hell of a side but better than 4 time premiers Hawthorn ?

Its not an argument you'll ever sell to you grand children.

Ok, for one, there have been shithouse teams in every era. Whatever spin anyone tries to put on it. Two, in the past, you got to play all teams twice. Yes, you had to play good sides twice but you were also guaranteed two meetings with the plebs. Modern football doesn't allow that, and the AFL openly go out of their way to punish the better sides by matching them up against the other strong teams regularly.

We've played the Suns twice in a season once. We've played the Giants twice in a season once - and it was the year they made the prelim final.

The greatest Geelong side ever was 2007.

Statistically win-loss perhaps not. But our best footy came from the Richmond match in round 6, 2007, through to the absolute belting Collingwood gave us in round 8 the next season.

Bomber still itches over 2008 and says he feels we were slightly better and I guess it's hard to argue, but we were smashing teams in second gear for fun in 2007. Yeah the Pies stretched us in the prelim - either side of that we won two finals by 225 points.

Nah Bombers 2000 was a fair bit better based on 1 season.

2 Flags short of ultimate greatness and goat status, should've won 5 Premierships with the list they had....

188 wins is fantastic considering how little they play at home these days, hopefully they will get 9 home games from 2018 on...?

And yet the Cats can't draw 30k to a Victorian fixture not featuring Hawthorn despite being 5-0. Say what you like about the Hawks 1-4 start but at least they've fronted up in half decent numbers (78.2k v Dons, 62.3k v Cats, 37.4k v Crows and 28.9k v Eagles) as compared to the Cats (62.3k v Hawks, 33.8k v Saints, 30.9k v North and 29.7k v Dees)

The Cats haven't even b2b'ed. Some decade of dominance lol...

Still failing I see.

I saw a stat today that shows that this amazing club has broken yet another record, this time it's the record for the most wins in a decade by a club.

From round 6 2007 to round 5 2017, we have won 188 games. Amazing.

Previously the record was held by Hawthorn with 186 wins from round 1 1982 to the 1991 grand final.

The next best after that is Carlton with 173 wins from round 7 1978 to round 6 1988.

Such domination shouldn't be possible in the era of equalisation, yet the Geelong Football Club just continues to defy gravity and dominate the AFL competition.

It's been while since there's been a positive thread on here about this great club, but this achievement definitely deserves to be acknowledged by fans of other clubs as well as our own.

You haven't won anything. The Geelong Football Club has. You haven't actually contributed at all.

That was your best team but they ****** it up and lost and now your just a footnote in the Hawthorn dynasty.

That would be more accurate if our three premierships didn't come in the time you won 1. A lesser dynasty perhaps, but a separate one. And one that has overlapped either side of Hawthorn's it would appear.

By the way, the 2007 AA side had 9 cats in it. Pretty safe to say we were going ok that year despite the inferior record.

We won the flag in 09. Hawks didn't make finals. Who ****ed up that year?
