I saw a stat today that shows that this amazing club has broken yet another record, this time it's the record for the most wins in a decade by a club.

From round 6 2007 to round 5 2017, we have won 188 games. Amazing.

Previously the record was held by Hawthorn with 186 wins from round 1 1982 to the 1991 grand final.

The next best after that is Carlton with 173 wins from round 7 1978 to round 6 1988.

Such domination shouldn't be possible in the era of equalisation, yet the Geelong Football Club just continues to defy gravity and dominate the AFL competition.

It's been while since there's been a positive thread on here about this great club, but this achievement definitely deserves to be acknowledged by fans of other clubs as well as our own.
That must burn that you didn't even win the most flags during that time period, no wonder cats hate us.

Actually I think some of the best bites in this thread have come from Geelong supporters...somehow. Thread has resulted in riling up Geelong fans more than anyone else.
Your team trolls its supporters better than anyone... Every year you think you might improve but continue to be shit - its hilarious from an outsider POV. The best part is all the players you offloaded for peanuts that end up being A-graders - what better way to troll yourselves.

This says a lot more about the eventual premiers in this diluted era (2012 - 2016) as the inclusion of the franchises prevented other contenders from gaining elite young talent to compete against team/s who've built their list prior to the compromised draft.

And what does it say about teams that had to build more than half their flag winning list (if you look at the 2015 team) during the compromised draft period after not making finals in 2009 (the year the compromised draft began)? They must be football gods, or perhaps just lucky they got Will Langford via father and son to help out in one leg of the three-peat - a windfall unlikely to have benefited any other team during the 2007-2017 period.

The Cats may not have won more flags than the Hawks, but most would begrudgingly agree that the Cats were the better quality team.

Probably. Edged us out in the midfield when Ablett was playing, and hard to argue their defense wasn't better with Scarlett down there, although after we recruited Lake and then Frawley, the backline was far from terrible in 2015. Obviously our forward line shat all over theirs, even after Franklin left, but Geelong had so many goal kicking mids, it didn't seem to matter much. Hawthorn perhaps gelled as a unit under adversity a little better than Geelong. Brisbane probably had the most complete list of the 2000s though.

How have geelong only won three flags in that time?! Oh yes, because they were only the second best club in that time. Or is the best club the one that wins the most h and a games and st kilda with 22 wins were the best club in 2009?
You only won the most games in 2009 because we rested 8 all Australians in a single game after top two was sewn up.

Absolutely. Can't be greedy

Btw back to back smashing a of opponents in grand finals hasn't happened for sixty years

Not even the Hawks of the eighties

Geelong's "problem" during 2007-11 was a lack of having 2 good enough key forwards at once. I say "problem" because it was the weakest part of the team but they still won 3 flags so who can complain. Greatest teams of all time have 2 Great KPF.

In 2007 they had Mooney and a young N. Ablett who then left. In 2008 they tried Tom Lonergan, which failed and he became a defender. In 2009 it was Mooney and a Young Hawkins. They Grabbed Pods at the end of 2009. 2010 was a mess with Bomber and Ablett, but there was still games were they played all 3 of Mooney, Pods and Hawkins. In 2011 Mooney was cooked, Pods got injured early in the GF and Hawkins came good at the right time. Pods never recovered fully and 2012+ has just been the Hawkins Show.

Lol. 2013 prelim final, 2016 prelim final, 2017 sitting 2nd on the ladder right now. Aside from winning the GF, we aren't doing bad for a team that isn't good.

Didn't say they weren't good, I said 'not that great'. It's in the post you quoted for Christ sake. Not making a GF in that time signifies 'not that great'. To still win so many matches despite this is impressive.

Reasonably fair assessments.

I think man for man we have Brisbane covered but I don't think there has ever been a team, or 22 players for that matter, SO good at lifting when it mattered.

Yep, and it was always our number one problem since we lost the Ablett/Stoneham/Brownless structure up forward. Even when we weren't that great while building the team from 2000+, the most successful player we had in the role was a converted full-back in Ben Graham, and of course Kent Kingsley.

Geelong get 7 maybe 8 "true" home games a year, how many do Freo get? The Dockers play in Perth 12 times per year! Our first home game this year is in Round 9 FFS!
Freo get zero "true" home games, we play our home games at our main rivals home.
